The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. While the vehicle was parked or while driving, the fuel and temperature gauges failed to display the correct information. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. While driving 25 mph, all the instrument panel gauges illuminated without warning. It was diagnosed that the electronic instrument cluster failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
A short while after I bought this car I noticed all of my gauges went out. I was nervous to even drive the car because I didn't know how much gas I had or how fast I was going. Now I'm constantly having trouble when iget gas. Even when I know for sure that I need gas after pumping for a few seconds, it never fails that the pump will stop as if my tank is full. This morning my check engine light came on. I take very good care of this car and all of these malfunctions seemingly one right after the other make me question the safety of this vehicle.
Speedometer cluster broke and cost $400. 00 to be rebuilt. A service report was issued to the dealership that this is a common problem. After searching the web for complaints, I found there has been thousands of complaints on the same issue on all gm vehicles. Why is there no recall?.
The gauges are failing to operate. This started with the gas gauge and is now affecting the temp gauge. I took it to a dealer for testing and it reset itself when plugged into the computer for diagnosis and it also does this if you disconnect the battery for a few minutes but very quickly stops working again.
My gauge cluster went out while going down the highway. Very unsafe, I was unsure of the heat of the engine and it is one of the hotter days of the year!!!! looked on-line and found how common this issue is. I cant see how much gas I have, how hot my car is, how fast im going, or how hard my car is working. If this piece of equipment is failing so widely it needs to be recalled!!!!!!!!! very very very unsafe. Tried to take to advanced and they wont read the code as its not a standard code (?) gm you are loosing customers fast and putting thousands of lives at risk by letting this continue to go past you and all for the sake of a little money to fix a problem you sold to us? if you can recall the same issue on some of your trucks you can on this car as well, discontinued or not.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact stated the instrumental cluster electrical system failed and caused the speedometer to provide incorrect reading when contact drove 55mph the speedometer read 30mph. The speedometer was not replaced. The contact also wanted to stated that the fuel gauge failed but was replaced. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000 and the current mileage was 99,211. Li.
While driving both the speedometer and the temperature gauge failed, temperature gauge is now stuck showing vehicle is overheating (it is not), speedometer moves all over and registers either a speed over 100 mph when on the road or registers either 20mph or 60mph while sitting still at start-up. Due to this issue I have no idea what speed I am going and must gauge speed by what other drivers are doing around me.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact stated that the speedometer and fuel gauge failed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure mileage. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 59,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact was driving 50 mph when the speedometer failed to provide accurate readings and the vehicle experienced abnormally high engine rpms. The contact also stated that the temperature gauge failed to provide accurate temperature readings, displaying that the vehicle was overheating when it was not. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the contact was advised that the temperature gauge would possibly need to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 126,000 and the current mileage was 130,000. Updated 01/10/lj.
I was driving down the street and my entire cluster went out. I spoke to chevy customer service and they stated it was a recall, but the recall date expired. However, I was not notified.

I drive a 2005 chevy Cavalier and all gauges have stopped working completely. It first started with the rpm's gauge about 10 months ago, then the speedometer about 6 months ago, now with the gas gauge just a few days ago. I can not longer tell how fast I am going, nor how much gas is actually in my tank. I propose a recall as I have seen many complaints of the same issues. I like to buy american and I feel if american auto makers want to keep their customers they need to step up the quality of products and service!.
First of all my instrument cluster fails, sometimes you know how fast you are going, what your tack is and you fuel level, sometimes you don't. I have never really known my mileage since I have owned the car. I also have issues with the car occasionally not wanting to start or reving of the engine and all of my dummy lights coming on I was told that is my ignition switch, however when I contacted gm they informed me Cavaliers used a different switch than the ones in the recall. Ok. Both of these are safety issues, I was going to give this car to my son for his first car, but no way! I can not teach him how to drive in it, because the cluster doesn't function and the ignition switch issues. Gm will not issue a recall for this vehicle and knows there are issues, pretty sure last gm I will own.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact stated that the fuel gauge did not provide accurate readings. The contact also stated that the speedometer would get stuck on various speeds and display inaccurate readings as well. The speedometer would get stuck displaying a speed of 20 mph, 60 mph, 80 mph and 110 mph. In addition, the fuel gauge failure would occur during cold weather and display readings of empty when fuel was present in the fuel tank. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 58,000.
2004 chevy Cavalier speedometer instrument cluster fails. Speedometer reads incorrect speed and fails. It is very dangerous not knowing how fast you are going, I received a speeding ticket as a result. I replaced the instrument cluster with one from a junk yard. The problem is temporarily fixed. There are many other people with the same issue.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact stated that after driving the vehicle off of the lot she noticed that the speedometer displayed the incorrect speed. The gasoline gauge had also failed and the odometer had also malfunctioned. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that they could not assist her. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 188,000. The VIN was unavailable.
My temperature gauge overextended clockwise past the maximum temp thresh hold until the needle was pointing directly right (toward psgr). The tip of the needle, being stuck in that position, physically blocked the speedometer needle from going any higher than 10 mph. Eventually the speedometer just failed, the temperature gauge still continued to not work, and approximately 1 month after that the gas gauge failed as well (that needle is all over the place). The only gauge in the cluster that is working is the tachometer. This seems to be a popular defect for this car, as I have read many others-same problem. My car is a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier and has less than 25,000 miles and has been taken excellent care of and now I'm afraid to drive it out of town. This problem needs to be a recall from gm. Very unhappy.
Gauges on dashboard have failed. All lights come on and gauges fail. Speedometer says I'm going 60 mph when the car is stopped. Water temp gauge is not functioning and the indicator gets in the way off the speedometer indicator.
Instrument cluster failure on 2005 Chevrolet Cavaliers. I own two of this year models and both have failed. I have read reports that it is a known failure and gm refuses to recall. This is very hazardous as the failure includes failure of speedometer and temp gauges.
Speedometer failure 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier gauge cluster failed at 82000 miles. Unsafe. Cannot determine mph.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact stated that the speedometer, temperature gauge and the rpm gauge would function intermittently. The failure became progressively worse until the gauges failed completely. The manufacturer advised her to contact the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000 and the current mileage was approximately 85,000. Updated 11/03/10.
The gauge cluster went out. Started with the temp though my car was over heating then after I took in and looked like an idiot they told me my car was over heating. Then a week later it did it again then the gas gauge messed then the rpm, 2005 chevy Cavalier.
One by one, the gauges in the instrument cluster failed. As a result, the speedometer, fuel gauge, and tachometer no longer function. Repairs are pending while I determine if my extended warranty will cover it.
Gauges go out or get stuck sometimes.
2005 Chevrolet Cavalier instrument panel has serious problems temperature gauge shows the car is over heating and interferes with the speedometer also the speedometer will show 110mph while sitting in park or while doing 65mph drop and show no speed. Also the front of the dash cracks out and can produce sharp pieces that can cut through the skin easily. Also the steering has the same problem as the 2005 cobalts at low speeds sometimes the car is very hard to turn.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact stated that the instrument cluster failed when she turned the vehicle on. Occasionally the instrument cluster moved rapidly and registers 0. A local mechanic replaced the instrument panel; however, the failure recurred. The dealer stated that they could diagnose the for $125. The manufacturer advised the contact to have the dealer diagnose the failure at the owners expense. The failure mileage was 3,000 and the current mileage was 58,000.
Instrument cluster failure.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact stated that the instrument cluster was defective. The speedometer and fuel gauge failed to operate properly and displayed inaccurate readings. The vehicle was purchased with 30,000 miles. The current and failure mileages were 31,000.
At about 50,000 miles the tachometer on the dashboard cluster began to fail, becoming wildly uncalibrated and showing rpm well above actual. This was followed by the speedometer suffering the same defect. When driving, stopped, in park, or even engine off, the speedometer will read inaccurate: 30mph, 90mph, sometimes pinned 360-degrees off the gauge. A quick temporary fix is, while the car is off, to remove the dash cluster fuse and reinsert it, which resets all the gauges at 0. This is only temporary because within days, if not earlier, the gauges become uncalibrated again. Recently at about 60,000 miles the speedometer has also randomly begun to report speeds well below actual speed. I. E. When traveling 45mph the speedometer will read 25mph.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact was driving approximately 70 mph when she noticed that the speedometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge and rpm gauge failed intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for the failure. She contacted the manufacturer and was advised there were no recalls on the vehicle and that they were unable to assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 130,000. Updated 04/15/lj updated 05/02/11.
Instrument cluster failure. Initially the temperature gauge only failed, now the fuel gauge has failed also, the only gauges remaining functional are the speedometer and tachometer. Local dealer says instrument failure is common problem. 2005 chevy Cavalier.
Dash cluster failure. Rpm gauge running backwards and sticking, fuel level indicator incorrect, speedometer sometimes incorrect. When this happened I looked it up online to see if I could diagnose the problem. It seems that this is an extremely common and potentially dangerous problem.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact stated that she had issues with speedometer getting stuck on an intermittent basis. It would reset itself and randomly become stuck again. Most recently, the temperature gauge was also failing and becoming stuck. It would indicate that the vehicle was too hot but when the contact turned off the vehicle and let it sit, it would continue indicating that the vehicle was overheating. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified. The current mileage was approximately 153,000. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
Purchased a 2003 chevy Cavalier in sept. 2008 for my daughter to go to college. Had a carfax report done and found nothing, clean report. 2 days after purchase, inst. Cluster went bad, not working at all. Dec. 08 the fuel pump went bad. After researching the internet, I have found thousands of the same complaints as mine. I have even found websites advertising to rebuild the cluster as so many are defective. Now if this isn't enough to see the major problem, I don't know what is. I feel that enough information is out on the internet to warrant a recall on both issues before the public has to spend all their money to fix gm's faulty parts that break down so quickly. Just these 2 repairs cost $500. 00 each.
