Temperature gauge stopped working and is stuck over 260 degrees, initially moved back but now remains totally turned to the right. Speedometer also stopped working, would turn on ignition and the speedometer would read 30 mph in idle and I would begin driving. To calculate speed I would have to take the speedometer speed-30mph and it would equal the actual speed. Then stopped at a red light, speedometer only decreased to 50 mph, by the time I reached home the speedometer read 95 mph in idle. Additionally cd player also stopped working. It occurs all the time and the consequences are not knowing true temperature or speed of the vehicle posing a danger to all on the road and myself
vehicle not yet repaired.

Speedometer sticks, will not return to zero. As you increase speed it goes up from there, after a while it reads over 100 mph even if you are sitting at a stop sign. It is very intermittent. If you turn the ignition on and off a few times it may reset. Then it will be ok for a few days then do it again.

I am the original owner of the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier starting in November 2005 we had the ignition lock cylinder changed due to being unable to start the car. This lasted for about a year when problems started more frequent. We brought the car back to the dealer and he was unable to duplicate the problem. He stated that this is an intermittent problem and they could only find the problem when the car fails to start. It would start for them while it was at the dealership. I contacted gmac and explained the problem. I could not get anyone to technically fine the problem. In essence, this car has an on going problem and it is useless to me because I have gotten stuck with the car at least eight times and had to have the car towed to the dealer at my expense. We would like to resolve this problem as we cannot even sell the car with this problem.
I bought the car used with over 29,000 miles on it in July of 2005. The car stops running at any speed traveled, everything locks up so it is hard to steer off the road. After I finally pull of the road I put the car in park, turn the ignition key off and then turn it on again it starts back up. This has happened many times. The first time I took it to the dealership and they told me that " since it wont happen to them while they drive it there is nothing wrong, so go home and call us if it happens again. " so I did. The 2nd time it was in the dealership they put it on a diagnostic test and fixed 2 things. Now the warranty ends and it is still doing the problem. I have called and made an appointment but was told I would have to pay for the repairs anyways because the warranty ended a little over 1,000 miles ago. I drive in this car everyday to work which is a half hour away from my house and to school 1 day a week which is 3. 5 hours from my house. I also have my child in this car at all times. I feel this car is a hazard to all that drives in it and I honestly feel that there may be an accident in the future if this doesn't get fixed.

I am writing this letter on behalf of my mother-in-law mrs. Virginia boehmer concerning a continuing problem she is experiencing with her 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier (VIN # 1g1jc1246y7211944). On July 10, 2001, September 16, 2002 and June 18, 2005, the dealership replaced the e7200 ignition cylinder lock (p/n 1245879) and various other components [actuator (p/n 2603220, and hvac n2897 relay (p/n 15393412)]. The first two times under warrantee without any explanation and the last at mrs. Boehmerã‚s expense with the excuse that the weight of the keys in the cylinder caused the failure. The vehicle has less than 10,000 miles and is well cared for. The problem seems similar to to the NHTSA recall 04v036000.
While driving on highway, the engine suddenly stalls and will not start for sometime. Track light comes on. Happens "randomly". Currently happens 3-5 times a week. Afraid to drive the car anymore. If it stalls where there is no shoulder can cause a severe accident. 2000 chevy Cavalier, started happenning after ignition recall but dealer denies and link.
While turning right consumer was unable to steer. This caused the vehicle to stall. Consumer restarted the vehicle, and took it to the dealer for inspection. The cause of the problem had not been determined.

I bought my car from apple valley Chevrolet in August 2003. The car had 64 miles on it when I drove it off the dealers lot. After the car exceeded 1000 miles it started having an electrical problem with not keeping rpms and shutting off. When the car shuts off I no longer have power steering after this hrepeatedly happened, I informed the dealership of the problem that I was having and took it to them three times and they told me that if it did not come up on their computer that they could not fix it and that there was no problem. *akthe problem has yet to be resoved , no satisfation. Due to this being my primary mode of transportation, my car has around 18,000 miles on it now and I have a roaring sound coming from the drivers side wheel. I notified the dealership of the problem and they told me that it would be fixed on may 11,2004. The dealership did not want me loan me a rental and told me and my mother that if I needed a vehicle that I could pick up my car and drive it in that condition. My parents refused to allow me to drive the car in that unsafe condition, my mother got on telephone with the supervisor of maintenance and they agreed to have me pick up a loaner from thrify loan in martinsburg. My mother took me in to pick up the vehicle. I was notified that they had fixed all problems with my vehicle and that I could pick it up, today may 17, 2004. I picked my car up from the dealership today.

Ignition locked. A month later the consumer received a recall.
Consumer complained that when manually shifting vehicle stalled. The key had to be removed from the ignition to restart the vehicle. Also, sometimes vehicle stalled when shifting too fast. Occasionally, the stalling occurred on the highway. During this time it could be dangerous to have to remove the key from the ignition. The dealer claims that the vehicle was designed to do this. The problem occurred more than twelve times.
Consumer stated the vehicle was parked and shut off. Without warning, the vehicle caught on fire from the steering column. Dealer notified. Consumer woke to ignition running. Ignition was in off position with the keys removed. She inserted the key and turned it on and off several times until the engine shut off. Just then smoke was seen coming from under the steering column. Fire dept. Determined fire was the result of something electrical.
Hard start/no crank regarding ignition. Burning smell. . . . . . . From engine. . 2002 chevy Cavalier.

Vehicle stalled upon start of engine, then turned off suddenly after being on. Tried to restart and did not turn on. Vehicle was towed to shop, the next morning turned on with no problem. Stalls upon start up often. And turns off after being on for a couple of minutes. Chevy dealer said it might be electrical, they want the car to be taken in when stalling. If its stalling the only way to be taken in is by towing the vehicle there. They're not even sure if its covered under warranty or not. One person said it was if it was electrical but her manager said it wasn't.
This car has had many electrical problems, windows, sunroof and ignition. Mr.
My car has a tendancy to not start. I sat in a prking lot once for 10 minutes trying to start my Cavalier. It started when the car only had 100 miles on it. I have complained to the dealership on at least 4 different occasions, only to be told they do not find any problems. I want this resolved!!.
A fire started in the steering column within 15 minutes after trying to get vehicle to start. Dealer was not notified at this time. Feel free to provide any further information.

A loud noise was coming from under right side of the vehicle. Contacted dealer, problem due to strut mount and isolator going out.
I got the car brand new and I have always had problems starting the car. It is not everytime but sometimes I have to try 4 or 5 times just to get it to start. My seat belts no longer retract. I'm not a fat person , and I don't know anyone big enough to ruin my seat belt retractors. My rear defroster barely works, and my passenger side power window motor already went bad. I am very dissatisfied with this car.
After receiving the notice in the mail concerning the recall I contacted my dealer andean Chevrolet, only to be told that the replacement parts were on "national back order" and to not even bring in my car that there was nothing that they or anyone else could do. I then asked what should happen if I'm driving down the road and my car should really start on fire. The reply I received was "that very rarely happens, and to call back in 3-4 weeks. " two days later I started having trouble starting my car. When I tried starting it and it didn't I continued to try to start it finally only to end up getting a machanics help. This continued for several days and even being stranded in a very secluuded area because of this ignition problem. I even ended up replacing the battery due to trying to start the car. Missing work and being late resulting in loosing the placement. |what do I do about this and whom do I hold responsible for other situations resulting in this recall that unable to be fixed at this time?.
I have been having a problem starting my car for some time now. Sometimes when you try to start it the first couple of times it just clicks. Then it will start up. It wasn't until April 15th that the car just finally decided not to run anymore. They are telling me that the part for my car that involves the recall will not be in until July. I want to know what I am supposed to do in the mean time. They are not offering a rental car. I have already lost time off of work because of this whole mess. I feel that I have paid my car off and general motors should at least give a little. Considering I have had nothing but problems out of my car since six months after I bought it brand new. General motors is ruining their name and reputation because I will not own another chevy vehicle after this one. I loved my car when I first got it but it has been nothing but problems for me. You know they are not even offering to pay for my car to be towed. This recall is not the consumers fault so we should not have to pay for it to be towed in when it breaks down from general motors recalls. .
Received recall letter 02v070000 on 01/v/070/000. Parts are not available, and there is concern of a fire that may start as a result. Please provide any further information.
Consumer turned vehicle on and nothing happened. She did this 3 times. Also, after taking automobile to mechanic, she was told by mechanic that he could not find anything wrong with it.
I am worried about the recent recall on my 97 Chevrolet. I currently have the defect and the car can catch fire at any time. The problem is recall April 2002. My car is having the problem described in this recall notice. Ie, when key is turned, there is a clicking noise, engine does not turn over. Car at the dealership. Relay repair kit not due to dealer until may 2002. My car has the defect and I am afraid to drive it until may.
Car is a complete lemon made with poor quality. It is unrealible and a constant headache. No safety defect listed.
Ever since we've bought this vehicle there's been nothing but problems. While backing out of the driveway it will stall out and shut off. In Feb of 2000 the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The gas gauge flucuates. It will show 1/4 tank of gas left and ten minutes later the check gas light comes on and the gauge drops. Some kind of electrical wire on the front drivers side went bad. The driver's side door won't shut any more, the latch needs to be replaced. It's like every 3 ot 4 months something wither minor or significant goes wrong with it and persoanlly I am sick of it. I believe that my car is a lemon and I want to do something about it.
The vehicle was parked for five days, consumer went outside and the vehicle was running without the key in the ignition, consumer went to turn the vehicle off and noticed smoke from the steering wheel area, vehicle was destroyed by fire.

My car has not started 4 times. I keep it mantained as schedualed. I have taken it to the dealership I brought it from, but they have charged me to much money and always tell me nothing is wrong. If someone jumps my car it works fine, but I have to jumpstart it in order to get it running again. What could be wrong?.
I have called this morning (12/06/00) to NHTSA, you said you will send me a form to fill out. But then I got into this website. So I would like to file and document ASAP becasue I feel very unsafe while driving. I am sure my vehicle has a defect or problem which could cause an accident or injury or death to myself and others. The problem first appeared in early July/soon after starting the car, warning lights (oil pressure and charging system) lit up and the car stalled and lost power. Power brake was gone, and I was heading down a steep slope! luckily I managed to stop the car without causing an accident. I can restart the car and drive on. It happened 2 times more and I took it to the dealer to check. It cannot repeat the condition, so nothing was done. For the next short while nothing like that happened, although several times 2 other warning lamps will lit up (enhanced traction system off and malfunction indicator). I called the dealer to make an appointment but the lights will go off, and I cancelled the appointment. . . On the night of 11/28/00, the same dangerous situation occurred again. Since the dealership was not immediately available, I took it to a mechanic who ran a computer test on my car, and found taht faulty code #704 had occurred intermittently in my transmision system. But again, the mechanic cannot duplicate the condition, so cannot fix anything. I called gm's customer assistance and the dealer to see what I can do. The advice is that there is no similar incidents reported. And I just have to wait for the condition to happen again somehow. But the dilemma is that even if the stalling happens, the car can restart, then the condition will not exist and even if I bring/tow it to the dealer, they won't know what to fix!! so I have no recourse to take except to drive the car around with this danger on my mind all the time! there must be a better way to have the car fixed or the matter resolved, I would think/hope? thankyou.
While driving vehicle would stall out at least 3 or 4 times a week after it had been sitting 6 hours or longer. Had taken vehicle to 4 different dealerships, and each mechanic could not resolve the problem. Problem was consistent.
Car was parked in the garage for a several hours when the ignition seemed to be going off all by itself. The car was trying to start by itself. No keys were in the automobile at the time. The process could not be stopped even after the driver tried to turn the ignition.
Well, I am not exactly sure of what is wrong, my car stalled out after four turns of the ignition to start it up and then it wouldn't start up again. A few hours later, it started up and it didn't sound normal, it sounded terrible. As soon as someone could contact me, that would be great for I am without a car right now. Thank you. Casey six.
Vehicle continually stalling. Several trips to dealer and the dealer has been unable to identify problem. Error codes p0 171 and p0 507, repairs have been unsuccessful.
The vehicle lost power and the electronic traction system light came on while driving due to burnt spark plug wire. Yh.
