3 Horn Assembly problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

I have had some of the issues others have mentioned. Twice all the gauges went dead-stayed in the positions they were in when the ignition is off. Twice the horn didn't work- had to roll down the window and yell! when the gauges went the first time, I stumbled on the fix. I'd removed the fuse to test it-tested ok. Put it back in, now all gauges worked fine. I realized that the two problems are related-both get power through the fuse panel. The dash vibrates so much that these two in particular work loose. Now I remove the fuse panel cover every couple of months and push down on all fuses and relays. Problem solved. To the people with the "linda blair" temperature gauge, good luck on that one. I hope this info helps.

4 Horn Assembly problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 06/05/2012

There is a well known problem with the horn after time/wear with the 2003-2005 Chevrolet Cavalier. There is a issue with the contact in the steering column to active the vehicles horn. The problem is caused by the rotating ribbon circuit contact under the steering wheel having a broken filament for the horn circuit, the part is known as a clock spring contact. The horn will not work by pressing either button on steering wheel, but will sound as part of vehicle security system by pressing key fob. This issue can lead to accidents, and injury. This is a know problem reported by many vehicle owners on different forums, databases, and searches. Please fix or recall this part Chevrolet, to prevent accident, injury, and death.

5 Horn Assembly problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 08/08/2011

While on congested expressway, passing vehicular traffic began with sounding horns, hand signs of displeasure and rage. At this time an observation of speedometer had a reading of 55 mph, the posted speed limit. Upon exiting expressway and stopping another observation of speedometer revealed vehicle was still moving at 55 mph. During this time a motorist had followed from expressway, approached and offered to violently place my cranium into my anus thereby improving my driving skills. After fleeing this hazardous situation a closer inspection of speedometer informed me of a unpredictable, erratic readings which bordered on not working to showing 100 mph when not in motion. This has clearly caused a life threatening situation on the public way which maybe rectified by a recall notice from gm on this vehicle (instrument cluster) part which is faulty. An investigation of reported complaints, revealed an overwhelming problem with this vehicle part, calling for immediate government oversight and action.

6 Horn Assembly problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 07/12/2011

Temperature gauge stopped working, reads sometimes, and sometimes does not. Replaced sensor and had no effect on gauge function. Fuel gauge is intermittent after the temperature gauge stopped functioning as well. Door on heating underneath the dash clacks constantly unless you set the heat in recirculation mode. Needles of the two gauges hit each other as they wander aimlessly through their orbits. Horn stopped working at 98000 miles. This vehicle is plagued by bad wiring and parts. However, it is a fine running vehicle and should ast another 100000 miles if you're willing to drive it without gauges, horn and only run through the heat and ac in recirculation mode. Chevrolet knows this has happened constantly with these vehicles and should recall and correct them. If I can't trust the original gauge cluster, how can I trust a new set if I take the vehicle to the dealer for repair and pay an exorbitant price to have them replaced and repaired? I would expect this from a Chrysler product but never a Chevrolet!!!.

7 Horn Assembly problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 05/02/2011

I have a 2005 Cavalier which I purchased with 17,000 miles on it. I am currently at 28,500 approximately. My car is currently experiencing problems with the temperature gauge, gas gauge and check engine light. It also appears to be accelerating on it's own. I have checked several websites and find that this problem seems to in addition to the other issues, I am experiencing problems with my horn (I am not familiar with the relationship they components of a car have with each other). My understanding is that chevy did a recall do to defects with steering problems in the 2005 Cavaliers. Could the problems that I and other are experiencing be a part of that recall, since it is all apart of the dashboard be common for the year, make and model of my car?.

8 Horn Assembly problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

The contact owns a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, he attempted to sound the horn and it was not functioning. 9 Horn Assembly problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 08/14/2010

Horn contact behind airbag was recently crazy glued, to restore horn, and speedo & cluster requires replacement of entire cluster by chevy, or removal & rebuild of gauge stepper motors through ebay motors. Use froogle. Com and enter"repair Cavalier speedometer" to search. My speedo only on my cluster erratic for 20k miles. I use my tachometer to guestimate highway speeds,2,500 rpm is 55. I have 120k now on the car, otherwise bulletproof. Just tossing out brake rotors now, that's it. I used synthetic oil from the start, very smooth car, @ normal speeds. Needs intake and wheels for speeding, over 65. Engine has plenty of go over that, but base brakes, wheels and intake aren't speedworthy, but it is a base model so ok. Keep the tie rods greased, air filters changed after winter as they are easily serviceable unlike most that aren't.

10 Horn Assembly problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

Speedometer, gas gauge and horn don't function or give incorrect readings.

11 Horn Assembly problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 09/01/2008

Speedometer is no longer working correctly, it now comes to rest anywhere from 30-60 when car is not moving, it does increase as speed increases but does not decrease at the same rate, causing the speedometer to register above the limit of the dial. Horn does not work via the steering wheel, the horn does sound with locking and panic buttons. Dealer informed me that this is not covered under warranty and that there are no recalls for speedometer, and that the cost would be $650 he was able to tell me this without looking up any information, sounds to me like they have replaced quite a few instrument panels recently.

Failure Date: 02/27/2008

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. She stated that when the driver depressed the horn it was inoperable. 17 Horn Assembly problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 10/11/2004

First problem with my car was a short in the brake lights. Chevrolet repaired that. Then the horn would work randomly. Chevrolet replaced that. The a/c failed to work on the driver side. Chevrolet repaired that. Then the keyless entry randomly stopped working, Chevrolet told me they cannot find anything wrong the keyless entry still doesn't work properly. Then the car started turning off while I was driving. Chevrolet again told me they could not repair the problem due to nothing registering on the computer. My car turned off mid turn and I hit a brick wall. Chevrolet investigated the accident and told me my car didn't turn off. I got my car back last Tuesday and my car turned off again. I made an appointment to bring my car back to Chevrolet and its turned off again. I guess Chevrolet will never be able to repair my problem.

20 Horn Assembly problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 03/26/2003

Bought my 2002 Chevrolet LS sport cavailer on 5/27/02. Since then the rack and pinion went in March 2003--which they did not discover until may, and when driving I get a loud grinding noise still which is metal on metal. I asked another mechanic not affiliated w/ the authorized dealership (that told me after 5 attempts this can not be fixed-and that they have a pi out on it), if this could pose a problem. He said the continuous grinding w/ metal on metal when steering, can cause too much friction and heat up and potentially cause a fire, etc. I am having my husband drive this vehicle that only has 13,300 miles now. I am scared to drive it, and the dealership, nor gm can tell me or sign off in in writing that this won't cause a problem. They (gm) believe steering problems, and noises you hear when steering like metal on metal are not dangerous. I was told that gm knows this is a defect by the dealership and gm now itself called me and told me, but they won't do anything about it. Why doesn't the regional mgr for gm drive my car then, and tell me that--since she makes all decisions that this is not a problem that could be dangerous, and hence won't do a thing about it. Seems like the dealership and gm says it's a problem, but I have to keep paying on a car that I won't drive. Besides the continual grinding in my steering, and the failure of the rack and pinion that they fixed, the horn died 2 times as well.

27 Horn Assembly problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 11/08/1999

My vehicle has trouble doing everything a new car should do. This vehicle has jeopordized my families safety on numerous occasions. Having the horn not work when another vehicle pulls out on me is a serious matter which should be looked into. Everytime the oil is changed on the car they come back and tell me the transmission is leaking again. Obviously replacing the shaft seal is not fixing the problem especially when it leaks again 3000 miles in between dealership visits. Having a constant gasoline and sulfer odor emitting from the vehicle worries me especially considering I have two very young children. When brought up to the dealership they will not look into the matter anymore unless a engine light is on. This vehicle will shortly run out of warranty and I believe general motors has blown off my letters, phonecalls and e-mails knowing this. Thank you for your time in this matter, sincerely clifton cole.

28 Horn Assembly problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 07/14/1999

My horn suddenly went off and stuck for no reason when I got in my car (before I even started it). I had someone disconnect the wiring for the horn and that person told me he could smell something coming from the air bag. I brought it to the dealership where I bought it and was told that it was most likely an electrical problem and had nothing to do with the horn. I would like to know what my rights are and what I can do so this can be fixed. I do not have much money as I just became laid off so I can use any kind of help. Thank you in advance for any help!.
