While driving 55 mph check engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. A loud noise was heard coming from the rear. Consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that wheel bearing, caliper. And both frontal rotors needed to be replaced. Dealer informed the driver that this was the twelfth set of wheel bearings that had been replaced this year.

While driving 65 mph, there was a very loud noise from engine, then smoke was coming from under the hood, then the engine stalled. Vehicle towed to dealer, who determined that engine threw a rod and had to be replaced. Not done under warranty. Two other Cavaliers with the same make, model and year owned had the same problem in February 2001 with 18000 miles, has since been turned back in.
