3 Steering Noise problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 05/15/2003

Popping noise when turning the steering wheel. I have told the dealership several times about the problem while under the warranty and they said there is nothing to worry about. I took my car in for routine maintenance 5/15/03 and told them about the problem again. They called me and said there is a problem in the steering. They said the steering shaft column did not have any grease left and that it was dangerous to drive. The cost was $189. 00 to have it fixed. So I had it fixed. They said it is not covered under the warranty.

6 Steering Noise problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 04/10/2002

At about 34,000 miles the steering case started making a clicking noise, I took it to the dealer and they told me it was nothing, they lubed something. After that the noise went away but just a couple of months later I started feeling a clanking noise in the steering, it turns out when I took it in for my annual inspection the mechanic states in about a year or two the steering will no longer work. Turns out a friend of mine had the same problem with steering, while coming out of their driveway, they couldn't turn the wheel, they eventually had too change the steering case in the car. What happens if a person is on the highway and no longer can steer the car, the results would be catastrophic.

8 Steering Noise problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 08/15/2001

The steering makes lots of noises. Major steering components have been replaced, yet the problems still exists. My 4th attempt to have the problem repaired, resulted in the service technician advising me to continue driving the car until the steering gets worse. He claimed the noises are not loud enough, nor frequent enough to be repaired. I say it is very frightening to hear such noises when steering the car, especially at higher speeds (45+). I no longer drive the vehicle, it is parked and will remain so until I am assured that it is safe to drive.

9 Steering Noise problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier

Failure Date: 05/15/2000

Steering- 2000 Cavalier Chevrolet. There is a loud popping noise when the steering wheel is turned to the left. Along with the popping, there is a vibration in the steering wheel during the turn to the left. The vibration has consistently been present since the vehicle was bought at 100 miles. The popping began soon after. The vibration was reported to the dealer before 36,000 mile and I was told it was nothing to be concerned with. After the 36,000 mile warranty, the popping began to occur more frequently and with greater volume and the vibration continued. The 96/98 Cavaliers are recalled for steering concerns that sound similar to the problems my 2000 is having, yet I have been told my specific vehicle does not qualify for the recall.
