Chevrolet C/k Pickups owners have reported 12 problems related to brake antilock control unit/module (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The antilock brake system has failed on my 1999 Chevrolet with less than 49000 miles. The vehicle id is 2gcek19t1x1186889 I bought this vehicle new and have never abused it. Berglund Chevrolet in roanoke estimated the cost of fixing this at $1000 dollars. How long would this fix last? how safe is a vehicle that will not go 50000 miles without a major component on the brakes failing???I searched the internet and found a forum with several complaints on this problem.

The abs braking system activates at low speeds while applying brakes. There is a recall by gm for 1999 for the same issue. Unfortunately, they tell me that a 1998 is not involved as of yet.
When applying brakes, abs seems to be malfunctioning.

In 1999, I purchased 2 1999 Chevrolet pickups as graduation gifts for my son and daughter. Recently, my daughter visited and I used her truck to run an errand. Seeing the brake indicator light on, I was concerned. She said some 2 years ago, after turning off the ignition, a loud hum continued. Eventually, someone pulled the fuse to the anti-lock brakes to stop the hum. She said the dealer told her it was a common defect in that model and either spend $1,000 for a new "module" or leave the fuse out with no anti-lock brakes. She felt she needed the $1,000 more than anti-lock brakes. Then, I contacted my son an found he had the same defect occur on his truck and had spent over $800 for the repair.
Failure of abs system on 1999 chevoret c1500 pickups. I have heard from many mechanics that the 1999-2003 kelsey hayes (tm) abs module is failing in a considerable amount of vehicles. Mine has failed and the abs system no longer works. Gm has not recognized this a major defect and does not warrant any repair.
Anti-lock brakes (front) kick in dry conditions, when not needed. Truck has only 60,000 mi.
In late 2003, I had antilock brake problems with my 1998 Chevrolet silverado 1500 pickup truck. At low speeds, the antilock brake sensor would display, and the vehicle would continue to glide through intended stopping points. Until I got used to the stopping distance, I was rolling past stop signs. I took the truck in to a Chevrolet dealer, who among other things, replaced the speed control sensor. It took two trips to the dealer before they could figure out the problem. At that time, the truck had only 42,000 miles on the vehicle. I called Chevrolet to complain about the defect, but got no help from the manufacturer. The latest recall notice concerning Chevrolet's antilock breaks appears to be the exact problem I experienced almost 2 years ago. My concern is that the notice only includes 1999-200? models, and only those in cold weather states. I feel my vehicle should be included in the recall because the problems appear to be identical. I don't live in one of the cold weather states mentioned in the notice, but I do live within a few miles of, use the truck every weekend possible to trailer my boat to, and travel over the chesapeake bay -- a saltwater body of water. Maryland also uses salt on the roads, which should include it with the other cold-weather states. There's too much of a coincidence in defects not to have my truck included. I'd appreciate it if you reconsidered the years and vehicle locations to include 1998 models in maryland, or at least consider those that are located near saltwater. If you don't include my vehicle, will I ever find out if it was considered, or why my claim was dismissed? I don't have the old parts because I thought my problem was unique, so didn't feel the need to hang onto anything as proof. All I have is my original complaint to the service department, which still has the problem on record.
Problems with abs brakes engaging when slowing down to stop. Had the abs sensor ( front drivers side) replaced which corrected problem.

The abs control module(pump) began to malfunction on my 1999 Chevrolet k1500 z71 which caused it to continually run without shutting off. Upon inspection I found that the pump had already been replaced once by the previous owner who purchased the truck new. I then began research on the part and found numerous other people who have experienced the same problem with their trucks and had to pay for repairs in excess of $750. 00. I also discovered that gm changed the design of the control module due to an extremely high failure rate, however, they leave it up the consumer to purchase the updated part once the original stops working.
The abs pump on my '99 k1500 chevy truck has gone bad. The pump stays on at all times, unless you pull out the fuse for the pump. By disconnecting the fuse, the abs brakes are disabled for the truck. The replacement for this part is around $1000. This appears to be a fairly common problem on this model truck. Note that the dealer recommended fix, short of replacing the unit, is pulling out the fuse.
