Brake Disc Rotor Problems of Chevrolet C/k Pickups

Chevrolet C/k Pickups owners have reported 3 problems related to brake disc rotor (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 1998 Chevrolet C/k Pickups

Failure Date: 10/31/2005

Front rotor on Chevrolet cheyenne 4 wheel drive pick-up separated into two parts. The inner section being the part where the lugs are. The outer section being the portion the brake pads ride on. Inspection of the rotors shows an insufficent thickness in the metal of the rotor. This is not an isolated incident. A friend of mine had the same thing happen to him. I replaced the rotors with new ones, but I was fortunate that I heard a noise at a toll booth as I pulled onto a high speed highway. I have the defective part.

2 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet C/k Pickups

Failure Date: 11/26/2004

I own a 2001 silverado 4x4 and there is nothing but problems from the brakes. I had to replace the rear brakes at 30000 miles because of a poor steel which caused the rotors to flake and pit apart which in turn caused failure of the rear brakes. My service manager at the gm dealer told me to replace the rotors with after market because they are of better quality and cheaper. After over $400 for the parts plus labor, the brakes are now functioning. Then 4 months later I come to find out that my abs tend to come on when I slow to a stop, they activate at approximately 5mph and below. They do this on any surface at any given time. This has caused me to brake further into intersections and crosswalks as the abs grab and release. I take it to the dealer and they tell me that there is a service bulletin out to fix this. I will need to spend more $ and hope to have decent brakes. I am getting very fed up with the problems on this vehicle.

3 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2002 Chevrolet C/k Pickups

Failure Date: 12/28/2003

Premature wear on all four brake rotors for this truck. Rotors could not be turned on first brake pad change because they were rusting from the inside out. The metal used to manufacture these rotors had to be of inferior quality. Brake pads were still fairly good !.
