Traction control light comes on and jerks when shifting gears. It happens at all speeds. When I cut the car back on, the light goes away. This happens off and on all the time.
I have a 06 chevy Cobalt. Since October 2007, the power steering has been going out and the transmission has been acting up. At the beginning, the problem would occur only once in a while. Now it is happening everyday. I'm currently a nursing student and rely on my car. There have been many times when my car would start acting up and during dangerous conditions such as thunderstorms or just in an unsafe part of town. I was happy when a power steering recall was issued, but after having the recalled fixed, the problem is still occurring! I'm a michigan native and know first hand the impact on the economy on the american auto industry. I wanted to support the local economy by choosing this car. Now I don't think I would ever buy a gm car again. Something more needs to be done! this car is not safe!!!.
My 2006 chevy Cobalt ss has a transmission/traction control issue. The traction control light will come on at random and when it does, my car with slam into the next gear. The problem used to be when I would accelerate with high rpms but now it happens all the time. Any time the tc light comes on I can hear something grinding under the hood and that's when I know I will have a serious problem. When I took it to chevy, they said they couldn't find anything wrong with the car but I am still having this problem! gm needs to do some research on this problem!.
I was driving my Cobalt all of a sudden the rpm's red lined and I had no power. I had to coast into a nearby parking lot. I waited about 30 min, started it back up and it seemed fine. Then I started to have trouble getting my key out of the ignition. There were several times I had to leave my key in the ignition because it would not come out. The next problem came when I would hit the brakes. If someone in front of me suddenly stopped and I had to hit the brakes hard, the car would idle really rough and shut off. That has been a constant problem for the past 2 to 3 years. I called the local koons dealership, they told me these problems were common and that I needed a new bcm. So, I purchased a new bcm. The service department told me that the bcm was "plug and play". Basically, it was a few clips, a few bolts and that I could install it myself, so I did. It didn't solve the problem. I called back and the guy that answered the phone told me to unhook the battery and wait 15 minutes, then hook it back up. Not only did it not solve the problem, but by unhooking the battery the anti-theft locked my radio. When I called back the third time the service department told me I needed to bring the car in and have them reset it for 300$. Being as thought I just spent 300$ on the bcm I didnt have the money. I bought the Cobalt because it was a chevy and a small reliable car. I was also a college student so the price was right. Since the recall for the ignition switch has come out, I called the koons dealership and asked about a refund on the bcm because that obviously wasnt the problem. They told me I was out of luck and they werent going to help me. Now, I have a death trap, im out the money for the bcm, and I dont have money for a new car. Thanks for sticking it to your customers gm! I will never by another gm.
2006 Cobalts should be recalled. I have one with the power steering problem, gm does not want to fix it. Please help. . !.
Gear shift will not lock in the park position, resulting in key sticking in the ignition. I have not had problems with it coming out of park, but it is only a matter of time because it is happening more and more.
I have a 2006 chevy Cobalt LS I got it like a year ago and it has a really bad power steering problem when I got it from the dealer it was good for a couple of months. Then the power steering started to fail I was going to moreno valley through the curves and it just shut of on me so I had to pull over. So I turned of the car and waited. When I turned it back on it worked for like ten minutes then it shut of again. Now I just turn on my car and as soon as I press the gas the power steering turns off. It is really hard to park and to control it. I tried to take it back to the dealer but my warranty was expired. My Cobalt is not the only one with the problem I did some research and alot of people have the exact same complaint as me. I think this car should be recalled for the safety of the driver and the pedestrians.
You know when my son bought this car, I know he thought he had the best, this is part of your reviews. New for 2006 are ss sedan and coupe models with normally aspirated engines. These new ss models fit between the lt and ss supercharged models. Their price, power and performance and body work are all toned down from the ss supercharged coupe, but they're sporty cars and possibly the best choice in the lineup, boasting 171-horsepower engines and sports suspensions. This car was suppose to handle good. But now he is dead because of this car. Do you people at chevorlet even know how people feel or what kind of emotion a parent goes through with losing a child and how my life has changed. I will never see him get married, have children. I will never be able to talk to him, feel him, tell him I love him. Yes, I'm hurt. I want you to pay for the mess you have done for my son's life and the life of others. Because you guys hid this mess for years you knew. How many people have too get injuryed or die. Just look at all the recalls just for this car. Just to think chevorlet has been the choice of vehicles we have always driven.
When the acident happen, my son and his friend were going to his other friend house to stay. He's friend that lived said he was having trouble controling the steering they ran off the road hitting the side of the road flipping the car, my son was thrown out of the car and was dead on the scene.
Starting in October 2007, I have had ongoing power steering problems with my 2006 chevy Cobalt. Without warning, the power steering will suddenly quit while the transmission will start jumping. The car becomes unable to drive. This will happen while driving. The problem will occur and then go back to normal a short time later. I have brought my car into the dealer four times now concerning this issue. I have been told that they don't know what to do. I am not the only one experiencing this problem. After doing some research, I have found that this happens to be a very common problem with the Cobalt. There is currently an online petition to have the chevy Cobalt recalled. This is a huge safety issue!!! I am afraid to drive my car. Something needs to be done before someone is killed.
