36 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2013

I have a 2007 chevy Cobalt and I have 89000 miles on it. I have been unable to remove the key for the last 3 months. I know there is a recall on 2009 chevy Cobalts but there isn't one for 2007 models. I have read many complaints about this problem with 2007 models and the cost is $425 to get it fixed. Because I cannot afford that amount, I have to press on a little button in the steering column.

Was driving on city street approximately 20 mph when it felt as if I were driving on rocks. The t/c light went on. I stopped the car, turned the ignition off and looked under the hood. Found nothing. Turned on the ignition on again. Returned to origin I had left less than a block away from incident and parked and turned off the car. It had stopped by now. I turned on the car again and proceeded to attempt my drive on same road. The car began to do the same thing, this time it did not stop. The car would not accelerate and the engine made a rattleling noise. I had to call a tow truck to take it to my mechanic. The car was diagnosed as the throtle body was the problem. I had a used body throtle installed and on 03/16/13 I took the car to a Chevrolet dealer, miami lakes automall to have a new throtle body installed. The dealer refused to give me warranty on it. On Wednesday 07/17/13 the t/c light came on and got message, service traction on the display window. I took the car to the same Chevrolet dealer where I had the new throtle body installed. When I turned off the car the light turned off. The car was checked and they claimed they didn't know what was wrong and couldn't help me.

My exhaust pipe broke right before it connects to the headers. On the 4 1/2" rippled steel that looks like it is supposed to absorb vibrations. From the look of the steal it is too thin to withstand vibrations. There is no evidence of any pressure or forced pulling against the area of problem. "like bottoming out the car". There are no scrapes, dents, or scratches on any part of my exhaust pipe therefore I suggest you look into this immediately. For this happened to my vehicle so easily. There will be more of your vehicles having the same problem.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2012

I was driving southbound on the lodge freeway in detroit, michigan in snowy conditions. My car stalled and I spent out with no control. I have been driving for many years and I have never had a car stall out on me and spend out of control such as this one. My rear driver's side bumper and fender was crushed. I was unaware of the gm recall until present and had gm disclosed the recall information before I purchased the vehicle (paid in full) with my cash, hard earned money I would have never driven to monroe michigan to get such a vehicle as this could have happened to my wife or daughter. General motors had no right to withhold this information as this could have been fatal. In conclusion, I think gm owes me a refund.

40 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

Periodically, the driver side door handle would not work. It could be pulled, but the door would not open. This has happened several times over the past few years. It cannot be opened from the inside either. Today, it happened again, and this time, the outside door handle came off in my hand.

41 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2012

I few years back, my car headlights started to stay on even after cutting the car off. I started taking the fuses out in order for my lights to cut off. This problem still exists, the lights may work correctly and cut off automatically for about 3 months, but in still have to resort to taking my fuses in and out for my lights to work. I had problems with the ignition about 3 years ago, but they had a recall for that. After they fixed my ignition, about a couple months later I started having problems with my car starting to hesitate and cut off. Check engine light has been coming on, now there are problems with the transmission.

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2012

The ignition switch wouldn't turn when I inserted the key, the key got stuck. I had to play with it for it to finally turn. I took it to a car locksmith and had another key made for the car which cost me $100. 00. Yesterday, October 8, 2013 I begin to encounter the same problem all over again. The key gets stuck in the ignition switch and the ignition switch does not turn. I have to jiggle and play with it for the key to finally turn and the car turn on. I have read that numerous people have posted very similar complaints with the Chevrolet Cobalts. It appears that this may clearly qualify as a recall issue. I should not have to go through this time and time again.

43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

I was notified early March that my car was part of a recall for the ignition switch, safety recall 13454. It indicated parts would be available beinging in April 2014. I am seriously disturbed that it is still not fixed as I am a senior citizen and have missed numerous doctor's and physical therapy appointments for fear of taking the car out. I have followed all the directions to the letter, taking all items from my key ring. As noted it is a serious risk to me and my health and my state of mind. I want to know when my car will be repaired as I have called findlay Chevrolet and they keep giving me the same old story, "parts are not in yet!!" it is not acceptable to have to wait for such a long time to be able to have peace and comfort back in my life.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2011

I have a 2007 chevy Cobalt with a leaking sunroof. It has been to the dealer to be fixed 4 times. I was told: it cannot be fixed permanently, don't park it outside in the elements, bring it in regularly to have the drain lines cleared out, etc. It has been parked under our carport all winter. Took it out 2 days ago and it rained last night. . . . It leaks! the car smells and it only has 21,000 miles on it. A car with a sunroof/moonroof should be made to drive out in the elements. I have had numerous cars with the same kind of roof and it never leaked. The car is faulty and I am extremely frustrated. Spoke to gm executive office and the said "bring it back to the dealer to be fixed". Lesson: if your roof leaks on a gm car, get a new one! very poor customer assistance and service.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2011

2007 Cobalt Chevrolet. 30948 milage. Feb 10, 2011. Control arm bushing on both right and left side broken, replaced control arm bushings.

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2010

Was driving on freeway going 55 mpg, weather clear, road clear, went to apply brakes and no power to car what so ever, car did complete u-turn on freeway and hit side curbing on freeway which caused tire and rim damage. Lights came on dash and car was not on when it crashed. Car was taken to rally Chevrolet for repairs and I told them that car just quit responding and I had no control of car. They said they found nothing mechanically wrong, my insurance had to pay for repairs and I had to pay deductible for repairs, an investigator came out to check mechanical issues with car, but codes had been erased from rally Chevrolet.

47 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2008

I took my vehicle to get it checked due to a popping noise while turning, I was told the control arm brushing (bushing) was broken. The part was replaced. Then 4 months later the popping noise returned. When taken to the dealership, it was again the control arm brushing (bushing). Again, it was replaced. In about 8 weeks, the popping noise returned again. I knew what it was by then and I left it go for awhile. It was replaced in December of 2012. Again it is broken as I file this report and has been for a couple weeks.

48 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2008

On February 21, 2008 3:21 a. M. I was called by allegheny general hospital (agh) in pittsburgh, pennsylvania to inform me that my son was taken there by helicopter and was unresponsive. He was in a car accident and suffered severe brain trauma. Unfortunately he died on February 29, 2008. This was my son's first "new" vehicle. We purchased it on 12/3/2007 and he died in it 2 months later. The vehicle is a 2007 chevy Cobalt. The accident was investigated and the police believe my son fell asleep at the wheel as he crossed the center line of a 2 lane road and hit another vehicle. The person in the other vehicle survived. After receiving the first recall notice about the ignition switch issue I contacted the car manufacturer (general motors) to inquire about whether they would investigate the vehicle to determine if it was defective and could have been the cause of the accident. I was told by a gm representative that there was nothing they could do as they had filed bankruptsy. I continue to receive the recall notices which leads me to believe that my son's death is not included in the total number of chevy Cobalt deaths. I first contact the us dept. Of justice and got nowhere. I then contacted your organization (NHTSA) - reference# 614104 and was told that I needed to go back to gm. It is my understanding that both organizations are involved in an investigation of gm however nobody at either organization seems to want to talk to me. I don't trust gm after some reading I have been doing however I plan to make that call. This is reliving a nightmare!.

49 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2007

I bought my car new, every since I have had it they have been a problem. First the outside tempture didnt work so I took it back to the same place I bought it from which is a hour drive one way & they said they replaced it. Next the doors started leaking air so I took it back to the same place they took all day but spose to have fixed that problem. Now the rubber seals on both back doors keeps falling off finally fixed them. Total upset because they fixed one thing and messed nother up. I start taking my car to rameys, were they fix the outside temputer which the other placewas spose to fix. At less than 35,000miles the roterhad to be turned. I take it for a oil change explain that the speed and tack hand moves on it own you when the engine is cut off & they said they didn't see it do anything. I take it back to the rameys for the next oil change and at this time the recall had been issued on the steering & I told them that sometimes its difficult to steer & again they say nothing is wrong well as time has gone by it is getting worse. Now the doors are all sticking. I got out of my vechile & noticed my light were still on, they never turned off intil I twisted the nob that worked for a little bit then it got to were they wouldnt even go off if you twisted the nob so my husband took out the fuse out now I dont have anything but bright lights. A few weeks later the signal lights stop make a sound I thought that my bulb was blown so I checked them all & they all worked but the odd thing is sometimes when I am driving they will make the sound. Ater going to rameys& getting the answer nothing wrong, I took it to a privete garage were he thought it was the swich itself, he installed a new one & that didnt solve the problem is board in the fuse box . The speaker on the drivers side dont work either & the trunk slams down when you let go of the trunk door.
