Since December 2014, my car started flashing the airbag light. The dealer says that airbag is coiled and to replace is $1,600. 00. I can't afford that. The airbag light is now on all the time (no more flashing). I looked up online and there were a lot of complaint on Chevrolet cars and airbag problems. Now the recall for it is out but my car is not on the list. I do believe this is a recall problem and I would like some help to know to get my airbag problem fixed through the recall. I will really appreciate your help. Thank you, ursula.

Service air bag light comes on.
My "service air bag" message came on today while driving and the air bag light is now illuminated on my dash panel. Came online to find out what the problem is and apparently it's a widely known issue with the chevy Cobalt. I took it to the dealership but they want a lot of money to fix this safety problem. Gm even issued a technical service bulletin about it but my car is out of warranty. Isn't this a safety issue that should be a recall?.

I bought this car used last March (2014) with 56000 miles on the car. The airbag light came on (within a month of purchase) and has stayed on. It turns out to be the airbag sensor module. It will cost $850. 00 before taxes to fix this isssue. I am a single mom who is working her way through college. I simply can not afford to get this light fixed. I have contacted chevy several times and have begged them for financial help. I even asked them to supply the part and I would pay for labor. I found on this website a recall for over 2 million Cobalt's to have the airbag module replaced. Chevy is telling that this recall is not to my car because the recall is not attached to my VIN number. I was hoping that you could further assist me with the recall and to see if it would happen to apply to my car. It looks like this is a common problem among Cobalts. Please and thank you for your time.
The power steering went out. Airbag light and power steering light came on.

2 years after I had the Chevrolet dealer fix the first air bag light issue it has come on again. I did report it to gm and the dealer however I was told that if the air bag light and dic stated service air bag comes on then goes away that the system did a "self check" and took care of the problem. I was also informed "should" it come on again to bring it back in. With the recalls going on now and my year of car is not is this recall really??? $22,000 on a sports car which by the way is turbo charged and I have an air bag issue still. . Good thing I don't drive the car the way it was made to be driven. I have owned 6 other gm cars never ever had an air bag issue such as this and new cars are suppose to be much safer. . Beg to differ.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the clock spring was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. A piece in the lever would not let cables hold tension. The consumer had the brake lever assembly replaced. The steering wheel coil had to replaced, to rectify the air bag light problem.
My air bag light stays on even after they fixed the ignition. Ignition still sticks after fixing it.
Air bag light come on service immediately may not be protected in accident kept coming on had to take to tech codeboo13/0012 clockspring it scary for a car thats five years old . To find out its in steering area. ## VIN failed ##.
I noticed the past week my passenger air bag light was on and no one was sitting there and then this morning 10/02/12 I turn my car on and it says service airbag did some research and its a major safety hazard for my passenger cause it does not work and no protection I also notice that the 2006 Cobalts and 2007 Cobalts have had this problem I personally have a friend that has a 2006 Cobalt LS that has this problem mine is a 09 Cobalt lt iv already had to pay 500 to fix my fuel pump module which they just put a recall on it this past month and I cant get my money back so before I go out and spend 300 to fix my air bag I would like to see if I can get it fixed for free thank you.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for repair and was told there was nothing they could do until the light illuminated constantly. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 44,900. Updated 12/06/lj.
The service air bag light comes on intermittently. It is nothing specific that does it. I could be going 10mph or 70mph on the highway and it just all of the sudden comes on. It is on anywhere from 5-30 seconds each time and then goes off and this happens multiple times per day. Unable to know what's wrong because if its not on when its brought in there is nothing they can do.
While sitting in a parked position, the check air bag light and message lit up. Tried to turn it off by having the passenger unlock and relock the seat belt. Nothing changed. It has also come on while driving just a few feet. This is very annoying and worrisome. I would like to know what to do about this. Two weekends a month I have my son and my grand daughters in the car. I want to feel safe while they are in this vehicle. If this can not be fixed, I want a brand new car of my choice at no charge!!!! I have not been very happy with this vehicle. It is not a good car. I am tired of all of the problems with this car.
Purchased a used car and when I purchased it the airbag light was on in the car. They were fully aware of that. . So I don't know what is going on with the airbag. I have a car fax on the car . Whoever owned it before had a slight bump in the front. That was never fixed. So I don't know if it is a sensor in the bumper in the front. Wheni purchased the car I said I didn't have that kind of my to spend. I am on a fixed income . Hoping to get some help somewhere. This happened before I purchased by the previous owner. Thank you.
My aircondition quits blowing cool air off and on the buttons are wrong. Engine light comes on and off. The airbag light comes on and off.
Service air bag light is illuminated in the driver information window. The light has been coming on and going off after a few days. Currently the light has been on and will not shut off. Didn't know until recently that when light is on, the air bags are inoperative in a crash. Many customer complaints are logged in on the internet going back to 2005. In addition, several gm technical service bulletin numbers are on line plus two NHTSA items numbers. Customers are paying from $300. 00 to $1000. 00 to have their Chevrolet Cobalt's repaired. Dealers are changing the air bag modules. This is safety item and repairs should be free of charge. Please advise.
Air bag service indicator comes on and air bags become inoperable. This has occured multiple times in between 3 trips to dealer for repair. First time at dealer: dealer claimed to order parts but never did. Second time at dealer: dealer claimed to have replaced passenger air bag sensor and module. Third time at dealer: dealer claimed electronic devices such as cell phones placed on seat will trigger the service air bag notification. The dealer claimed NHTSA reference #10030788 and TSB reference #sb-08-09-41-007a covered the incident and no further diagnose needed. However, the referenced items does not mention a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. Fyi, any failure in the system disables the complete air bag system and would result in one or more fatal injuries if not fixed properly. It would also prohibit obtaining a vehicle inspection unless fixed. This is a major safety issue for all vehicles mentioned. Recommend relocation of sensor and/or proper shielding of sensor from surrounding electronic devices.
Driving down the road and the airbag on the passengers side shuts off with a passenger in the seat. Service airbag light goes on. Shut the car off and restart then it will be fine for a while. I think it is sensor on the seatbelt retractor.

The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
