Received a letter in March 2015 from general motors advising that the clock spring coil wires to the driver air bag may become chaffed on a sharp edge of the steering wheel horn plate and that if this defect is not corrected and the chafed wire was to ground to the horn plate the driver air bag may not deploy if the vehicle were to be involved in a crash. The letter goes on to advise that if I believe that the vehicle has the condition described above is present the condition will be repaired for me at no charge. I called two dealers and told them that I believe that the condition is present in my vehicle and have been told that unless the air bag instrument indicator lamp continuously displays a warning light for the air bag they will not consider my vehicle for repair. My son, of thai descent who does not understand much english has advised me that he has seen the light come on intermittently.
