36 Air Bag problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

"airbag service required" light started appearing on dashboard approx 1 month ago once hitting close to 100,000 miles. It occurred at a random time while in motion, during normal driving conditions. Vehicle has not been in any accidents or damage. Light of airbag service started appearing randomly. At first it would turn on and off; now it constantly appears. I have taken it to used car dealer that I bought car from; they instructed me to call general motors because it appears as a safety issue after they investigated it. General motors told me it was not a recall, yet they were aware it is a service issue multiple people with the same year, make and model have dealt with. They instructed me to take it to nearest chevy dealer to have it services at a unreasonable cost. Called local chevy dealer they wanted diagnosing payment plus payment to service the vehicle. I did not take vehicle to chevy because the pricing is outrageous, this issue has occurred with multiple vehicles or the same year, make and model. It is obviously a safety issue that gm should be responsible for. Others have written online about paying for the service and it occurring again or even accidents occurring with airbag malfunctions.

I kept smelling gas, took it to car repair shop was told I could not drive the vehicle, was told the gas tank had to be replaced or whatever the part inside the gas tank. Note: when the power steering problem arrived I was leaving going to work. I started the car but the steering was hard to turn so I pulled back into parking space and turned off the engine. I restarted after a few minutes-was able to steer ok. Upon smelling gas this went on for serval days. I thought it was fumes from other cars. I would smell gas while driving it. One day as I pulled up to work I got out of the car and noticed something wet next to my front tire. I could smell gas fumes. I took it to repair shop the next day. Shop told me the car could have caught on fire.

66 Air Bag problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 02/19/2016

I just bought 2008 chevy Cobalt. The seller reported the mileage initially as 112,000. At time of purchase, 150,000 approximately. However there was/is no way to view mileage on dash of car, with the exception of briefly prior to starting the vehicle. It actually shows approximately 159,000 km. Conversion of km into miles says 98,000. In addition to mileage discrepancy, there is a very strong smell of gas inside the car, the steering wheel is upside down, 2 or 3 motor and or transmission mounts are broken or not attached, right front rotor bad, no functioning blinkers or brake lights, dash lights indicate svc tire monitor needs attention, air bags need serviced, brake light stays on, the trunk release isn't working, the wiring is questionable, only one speaker works, no stereo antennae, no horn, no way to view critical engine information, such as temperature or battery life. Service engine light on constantly, seller indicated all recalls had been addressed and he was supposed to be responsible for taxes on vehicle which were included in price, but I wound up paying back registration fees from 2014. All attempts to right this have been ignored. Seller implies that the Chevrolet dealership left the car in the current condition.

67 Air Bag problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 01/08/2016

My car has approximately 3000 miles on it. It is alway garage (enclosed). During its 3000 miles, it has only had one passenger for about a 100 mile trip. No one has riden in the backseat nor has the rear seat been used for transporting items. The interior has not been cleaned (not needed). It is a collector car and used as such for occasional trips. Last week, the sir instrument light suddenly illuminated (service airbag) while on a trip to exercise the car (car was stationary and the sir illuminated when the automobile was started). See gm service bulletin 09-09-40-003a issued August 2010. When sir is illuminated, the airbags are non-functional, but the car is driveable. Seems gm has a latent defect in the passenger seat belt retractor and its wiring bundle. Gm dealer charge ~$500 to replace the seat belt retractor and its defective wiring bundle. They also loosen the wire bundle leading to the retractor to give it more play and alter the seat belt sleeve to alleviate binding of the wiring bundle. This problem is generic to the whole Cobalt line and its pontiac cousin the g%. Since the fix is costly, most folks continue to drive the automobile and don't realize the airbags are nonfunctional. This presents a real safety hazard to the owners and passengers of Cobalt automobiles. This should be an immediate mandatory recall for gm!!!.

70 Air Bag problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt

Failure Date: 09/23/2015

Good afternoon, I have a few concerns about my vehicle and have contacted Chevrolet and the attorney general but they have now directed my questions/concerns to you. My vehicle is now on its sixth recall. Every time I have to bring my car in for work, I have to take time off of work and the car dealerships I’m required to bring my car into do not have loaner vehicles. However, my primary concern is this is my only vehicle and I am a single mom. These recalls are disconcerting and within the letters have openly stated that these defects, flaws or problems have caused deaths. My son is my everything and it is my job to protect him. When I contacted the company to ask how many recalls does it take to make a vehicle ineffective in regards to, do they stand behind their products? I was then directed to you. The individual I spoke to said they do not work in lemon laws but what about safety laws? what about standing behind their product? what about protecting those individuals that have bought their products and have now had multiple recalls that have the ability to make the vehicle inoperable and potentially life threatening. If I had the funds I would buy a different vehicle. I bought this vehicle because I thought it was safe and good on gas mileage. I do not have any extra funds to buy another vehicle. My concern is for the safety of my son and myself and I am appalled that a company does not seem to stand behind its product after this many recalls. Please help,.
