I was driving at about 35mp and it felt like my right rear brakes was sticking like they where stuck, then I was driving and it the car didnt want to move I push all the way to the floor with the gas peadel and it still wouldnt move, so I put it back into park , try again the it went in reverse. But it moved really slow, the key wouldnt turn most of the time had to keep turning it also took car to dealer to have key ignition fix said they dont know how long it would take to fix, then I get on internet and see there are up to six recalls on this car but how do I find out if I can have them fix them too. Only got one letter which was for the ingiton switch.
I was driving on the highway with my son and my car died due to the ignition switch, luckily it was in the early morning and there was nobody around. I have a standard vehicle so I just shifted down and coasted. I pulled off to the shoulder and put my emergency brakes. I immediately took my vehicle to a gm dealership and got the problem taken care of. Within a month of getting my vehicle back, I was on the highway with my son and the brakes decentigrated and totally failed on me. I fortunately knew how to handle my car in a situation such as this but I had to get it towed to the dealership I purchased it from. I expressed my extreme concerns for safety and how I needed to get into a safer vehicle. I have not been helped and I have been without a vehicle for a month. I need help to get into a safer vehicle for myself and my son.
I have a chevy Cobalt lt 2010. I got it used with 40000 miles on last year. I was in my car driving back home from school. All the sudden I smelled gas or burned oil. It is happening every once a while but I never paid attention to it. I pulled over. I turned my car off and I turned it back on in some couple minutes. Also it takes me a while to switch the gear when I am in the highway. The brakes also are not working as I am pushing them hard. They have a delay to stop my car. I did not know anything about the chevy Cobalt recall. When I got the notification letter from gm I realized that I should report these issues that have been constantly happening to my car. I am student. I do really need my car for my daily commute. I am going to ask gm to rent a car for me until the part gets fixed. However, even after this car gets fixed I am thinking that this car is not reliable to drive any more. I am not really feeling safe driving this car. I have heard that there have been some accidents due to the engine ignition issues and other issues regarding to this car. I am really scared about driving my car again, even if this gets fixed.

I was driving on the everett turnpike in nh. There was a soccer net in the middle of the highway. The cars in front of me had stopped and I tried to stop, but because my power steering was out along with my anti-lock brakes. I couldn't stop. I hit the car in front of me and my airbags didn't deploy. Luckily the only damage done was psychological. If I were an inexperienced driver than I would have died. . I have already had my power steering fixed once and now it has been recalled again. The car as a whole should be recalled. I don't feel safe driving it after they fix a problem that has already happened twice,.

A vehicle in front of my 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt quickly applied their brakes which caused my daughter to quickly apply hers thus causing her to hit the rear of the vehicle in front of her. The air bags immediatly deployed. My son, who was in the passenger seat, noticed within seconds of the crash that the engine was on fire. He had to quickly unhook both his and my daughters seat belt so they could evacuate the vehicle before the cabin caught fire. Once my daughter was able to relax and gather herself and tell me what she had remembered about the accident, she told me that it was very difficult to apply the brakes and it didn't seem like it was stopping as quickly as usual. I ask her if she thought that the car had stalled prior to the accident and she stated that she didn't know what it would feel like to have a car stall while she was driving. I am unsure as to, number one, why the engine caught fire immediatly after a 35mph impact and two, why was it very difficult for my daughter to push on the brake pedal to stop at a time when you need to trust your vehicle the most????.

3 recalls on this vehicle. Faulty ignition switch & air bags which affects steering, brakes causing 21 deaths to date. I want released from this car loan as it is unsafe to drive. Lienholder says its not their problem, gm has no idea when parts to fix will ever be available. They say my car has too many miles to qualify for a buy back :(.
While in drive, the vehicle made a buzzing sound like electrical wires being fried, and then completely shut off. There were no breaks and no steering ability- the car was completely lifeless, no ability to control it at all, stranded in the middle of a street.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, she attempted to engaged the brakes but the vehicle failed to stop. As a result, the contact crash into another vehicle and the air bags failed to deployed. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed and no injuries were reported. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 120,000.
As I was driving down the street to turn into my parking lot I started turning the wheel left when I turned my steering wheel and brakes locked up and drove over the curb of my apartment complex causing my whole right side of my car $1300. 00 worth of damage this is the second time this has happened to me first time no damage was done that was back in October.

Was heading to work when the chevy Cobalt suddenly shut off, causing me to lose power breaks, power steering, and causing the air bags not to deploy when I went straight threw a stop sign impacting into a snow bank.
While exiting the freeway, the car engine and electrical system suddenly went dead for no apparent reason. The driver steered the car to the side of the road without power steering or brakes. After it stopped, the driver put the car in park and restarted the engine. There were two people in the car at the time of the incident.
After coming to a stop at a red light, with the brake applied the car started lunging forward. It does not happen every time, but happens often. It feels like you are sitting there pumping the brakes when you are not and have pedal pressed all the way down.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the brakes engaged independently and the vehicle came to a complete stop. The problem recurred every time the vehicle was driven. The dealer was not notified of the problem. The contact also received a recall notification under NHTSA campaign id number 14v047000 (air bags, electrical system); however, the part was unavailable to do the repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
There is a bcm (body control module) problem in all Cobalts which hasn't came to light yet it's very dangerous. It's all over the internet and there are videos on youtube, search for "cobalt electrical problems" "cobalt power steering warning" this problem will cause the car gauges to go crazy and it will say engine light, power steering, the transmission goes into safe mode and shifts very hard and then car wants to chug and stall while your driving forcing you to pull over if possible to avoid causing a major accident and then you have to turn the car off this just as dangerous or more dangerous then the ongoing ignition switch recall. While looking on the internet for answers to why this is happening I have found lot's and lot's of other people who are having the exact same problems I have a 2006 ss Cobalt and this is what is happening to me. It has happened 5 times in the last 2 months, I have made arrangement with a gm dealer from where I have purchased the car to have the bcm (body control module) replaced at my expense and hopefully this will make my car safer. But I don't know if it will for sure. *I repeat this is not related to the on going ignition switch recall on the 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt models, this is another safety issue that needs to be addressed and investigated right away. Please take action right away to avoid futher loss of lives*.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle failed to respond to deceleration attempts and the contact crashed into the preceding vehicle. Upon impact, the air bags failed to deploy. The driver was thrown forward and hit their face on the dashboard and sustained injuries to the face and back. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure and current mileage was 90,000.
While driving in the left lane on a multiple lane interstate highway the driver on my right changed lanes into my lane. On my left was a concrete barrier without enough room for me to avoid the other driver. I aggressively applied the brakes to try and avoid the other vehicle. Even though my vehicle has abs (anti-lock brakes), the left front brake locked up and pulled me into the concrete barrier. At no time in the life of my car have I gotten any indication that the abs system wasn't working properly. In this situation I would have been much better off not having abs than having the system only to have it malfunction on just one wheel.
The contact owns a 2006 chevy Cobalt. The contact became involved in a crash in which the air bags did not deploy. The details of the crash were limited however, the contact was traveling 20 mph when the crash occurred. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed of the incident. The contact also stated that the brakes malfunctioned. Additionally, the ignition switch failed. The failure mileage was 110,000.
My most important issue with my 2008 Cobalt lt is that my engine is gone which I think is horrible and I purchased this car brand new I have been the only owner and have taking very good care of my vehicle, I will never buy a gm product again, through reading all the complaints I cant believe this vehicle hasn't been recalled my car started shaking really bad, and making a loud ticking noise, it was very hard to stop and also steer my vehicle I could have been in a very fatal crash or anything! my car also has the same issue about the speakers they go in and out and work when they want to. But my main issue is my engine in which my car I is longer under warranty and the dealership said it is nothing they can do for me, which I believe is totally absurd considering im still making payments on a vehicle that doesn't work, and is only 5 years old, so basically that means to me they will cover your car for 5 years or 100,000 miles then your just on your own which is horrible, to invest and buy a vehicle brand new and it just breaks down in this magnitude! I am very upset and disappointed that they aren't willing to help, so I will be suing them!.
On 10/2013, I was driving on the 105 fwy going eastbound at approximately 60 miles per hour when all of a sudden the vehicle stalled and I no longer could excelarate. East bound traffic was heavy and chp officer had to park behind me with his lights to avoid me getting hit by other vehicles, since there was no safety lane to pull over for broken down cars. The vehicle was towed to one other place before being towed to penske Chevrolet, 18605 s studebaker rd. , cerritos, CA 90703 the following day. In short, I took my car back 3 different times from the first time it was towed there. They would fix one part and I would leave and shortly after the engine light would come back on and I would return. Then they stated it was something else and they would "fix it". The check engine light would come back on once again. The last and final time I took my car in they replaced yet another car part and in total I paid $500. 00 dollars in fees, not to mention time loss at work and gas they use to do "long test drives". To this day the check engine light is still on from the day I left penske Chevrolet. The manager there "michael" in short stated that the car is fixed and that I would just have to deal with the check engine light being on. He assured me the second to last visit that this would be fixed and it never was. The vehicle is still not working as it did prior 10/2013. It cuts and does not accelarates when you initially step on the gas. In addition, the door locks are electric and when I drive they pop up and down on there own. I also will leave my car locked and when I get back the car will be unlocked. This all began after I got my vehicle back from penske Chevrolet of cerritos.
After climbing a steep driveway, brakes went to the floor when pulling out onto main road. Brakes would stop but continued to go to floor if 1) brakes were put on part of the way; release and then put on to stop again or 2) foot stayed on brake pedal upon stopping. It was not a sudden drop but a continuous movement of the pedal to the floor. Took to southtowne Chevrolet in newnan, GA and after a couple of attempts to repair the brakes (replacing front brakes, etc) a forman rode with me and they ended up having to flush the hydraulic system to get the brakes to stop. Upon hearing of the recall on the malibus this morning, I felt like my Cobalt might have also suffered a potential hazard in its hydraulic system.
Brought 2007 Cobalt on 7/09/14. Reported the problem of the vehicle shutting- off on me and no inspection sticker was on the car 7/10/14. They wrote a work order out. Brought the vehicle to archer auto to get work performed and for a inspection sticker. Archer auto kept my 2007 Cobalt for 3 months. Until I called bbb business and filed a complaint. Archer auto said they fix my vehicle but didn't. Archer auto put a illegal inspection sticker on it to pass the emission test. Archer auto returned my vehicle. Then the power steering went out. Brought it to firestone to get fix. Then later found out there was a recall on the power steering. The 2007 Cobalt was shutting-off on me and losing all power. . Then I took it back because their was another recall on the vehicle. Then on 9/13/14 the engine shut-off on me. Losing all power , locking the brakes and power steering also. I ran into the back of a vehicle and totaled put the 2007 Cobalt.
Today pulled the parking brake to park (manual transmission) and the brake handle would not engage.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, with the cruise control activated, the brakes seized when depressed and did not deactivate the cruise control function. The contact crashed into a median strip and upon impact, the air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained bruising, whiplash, and shoulder and neck injuries. The vehicle was neither repaired nor diagnosed. A police report was not filed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure was approximately 29,000. .
On two separate occasions in the last couple of years the spring mechanism in the rear drum brakes of my Chevrolet Cobalt have broken causing the rear drum brake to lock up the wheel while in motion, meaning the brake becomes fully engaged and the wheel stops rotating dragging the tire down the road. On the most recent occurrence 6/25/2014 the broken spring caused over $300 in damage to the braking system. Gm has been notified but refused to accept responsibility for their mechanically defective subpar spring mechanism.
Rear breaks wear out very fast for a new car, also very noisy and destroy my rotors. Outter pad seems fine, inner pad is deteriorating at an alarming rate.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal was engaged and the vehicle continued to accelerate. The contact crashed into another vehicle. The contact suffered an injury to the neck. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed of the incident. The vehicle sustained damages to the front driver's side bumper and was towed to an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000. The VIN was not available.
In my words and experience that happened on the day of 03/13/2013, appx 4:30 pm on my way home from work, like any other day over crowded traffic hour , stop and go, I started to experience loss of power in my vehicle. Twice it started loosing power then the vehicle veered towards oncoming traffic I steered to the right and vehicle would not steer back into normal position causing me to go over a dirt embankment and off a cliff, at that point I do not think the engine was running, I literally thought this was the end of my life, going through trees ,hitting rocks. There was nothing I could do but to wait to die. Then the vehicle hit something real hard causing the vehicle to roll over and come to a stop. I just remember wanting to get out of the car as fast as I could. I had to crawl out of the passenger side to get out. I didn't see anyone I couldn't see the roadway I was so far down. I heard people yelling if I was ok. I then remembered I needed my purse and my phone to get help so I crawled back into the car I found my purse but no phone or keys until the vehicle was recovered by chp recovery. At the time I didn't feel I needed medical attention, but since the accident my back and my balance are not the same as they use to. I've also been having difficulties with my memory.
The traction control light has turned on several times before but usually goes away. While hitting my brakes on the freeway to exit, my traction control light turned on today. I was going about 60 and slowing when it happened. The vehicle jerked violently causing me to slam forward in my chair and almost causing the person behind me to hit me. Once I stopped at the light and hit the accelerator again, it again jerked. I parked my car and shut it off. I turned it back on and put it into drive and immediately the car jolts. It continues to do this each time I switch from park to drive and from braking to driving.
Vicenza, italy. Roads were clear and it was 12am, not many cars were on the road. I was headed to work and as I was coming into a small traffic circle, the car began drifting, I let go of everything and the whole thing shut off: engine and lights. Another car was coming in but noticed I was drifting so they slowed down. I was headed into a ramp and tried to stop with my breaks which didn't work. I tried restarting the car but the key was stuck. I tried turning the wheel, but that was stuck. I finally got the car to somewhat slow down with the emergency break, and barely missed the ramp. I had recently had an oil change and my breaks checked, so I know my car was fine. It later happened again a few months later. Very similar situations. I have new tires and had my axles inspected, I know there is something wrong with my car and it is not safe. The most recent one was a few months ago at 0600. I used my breaks because an animal jumped in front of the car. The car slowed down, then the gas wouldn't work, the steering wheel locked and I almost hit another car as I struggled to turn it and the breaks would not work. The car then completely shut off and I was stuck with the car not waning to start. I took it to get inspected again, and thy said it was fine. I don't know who else to contact since GMC here and stateside, and he dealership I purchased it from in the states, are ignoring me.
The contact owned a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. While driving 40 mph and attempting to come to a stop, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to respond. The brake pedal depressed all the way to the floorboard independently. As a result, the vehicle failed to stop and crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags deployed with excessive force. The contact had to puncture the air bag to avoid suffocation, which caused the air bag to explode. The contact sustained back, neck, and ear injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a towing yard and was deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 48,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I was on the lodge freeway, highway 10, heading east when I loss control by 7 me rd, skinned out, hit the wall on the rear left fender and bumper.
On November 10, 2010, I was on my way to work. It was about 10:00am if I remember correctly. I could not even make it out of my subdivision before my Cobalt began to give out on me. I made a right turn at a stop sign, and my car suddenly started to "roll" I would say, because I was not able to steer or press the breaks. Basically the car had cut off without me knowing. I definitely didn't expect it to happen since it was on a full tank of gas. But anyways as it was rolling it was pulling towards the right since that's how my steering wheel was already turned from me making a right at a stop sign. I could not get the car to stop and I was rolling down the hill drifting off into peoples yards. The car rolled into a brick mailbox. It hit pretty hard. The brick mailbox came completely out of the ground and luckily fell in the opposite direction. I slung forward one the car hit the mailbox. I blacked out for a few seconds, and then immediately went into a panic attack which caused me to go into an asthma attack. I have asthma pretty bad. The air bad did not deploy. The front end of the car was all smashed in and all the fuels had leaked out. Because I slung forward I had whiplash, and also a knot on my head and a swollen busted lip. I was wearing my seat belt. I was out of work for a while due to the pack neck and head injuries. The police was called and a police report was filed. And of course the car was totaled out, which also left me with no transportation.
I was driving and trying to get up to speed and all my dashboard gauges began to drop down to zero, as in it would not register any speed, rpms or anything. My turn signals do not work during that time either. This happens often and could be dangerous as in switching lanes, or trying to turn.
