Our '07 chevy Cobalt's left rear tire outboard sidewall just separated just below the edge of tread all the way around the tire. Luckily was just accelerating up an on-ramp to highway speed when it blew. No tread or other sidewall damage lead to this (I. E. Punctures/debree in tire) - car has under 1,000 miles.

Sudden flat with no sign of puncture in tire. Continental tire p195/60 r15 87s note: tire size was not available on pull down. Tire size there is wrong, see above.
With less than 500 miles on my brand new 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, while traveling on the highway at 60 mph, my right rear tire exploded. After getting over to the shoulder, I smelled rubber burning and discovered that the sidewall was completely separated from the rest of the tire. After taking my tire to a dealer for inspection, they stated that there was a hole in the tire which caused it to deflate and my driving on the deflated tire to the side of the road (maybe 100 yds) caused the sidewall to separate.
