A few years ago, noticed my cruise control wasn't working. I took it to a certified repair shop and found out the part was under recall, and that my brake lights weren't working either. The problem was fixed, until this week. I noticed today that while driving, the cruise isn't working. When I parked my truck, I tested my back brakes in a reflection- not working either! again! is this part under recall still?.

Numerous times while driving, and going downhill the truck shifts to a much lower gear causing the rpm's to go up to 5500 and does not shift out. Twice I had the cruise control on and was on the highway (speed of 75) going down a hill and it shifted to a much lower gear. It has done this on other roads going down hill as well. In addition, numerous times when merging with traffic on a highway, I will try to tap the accelerator to safely merge with traffic and the truck has gotten "stuck" in a lower gear and would not shift out and I thought I was going to rear end a car so I had to ride my break to make sure it would not continue to accelerate into the back of a car. In addition to that, often when trying to accelerate out of a corner or after an off ramp, the truck will not accelerate at the same rate as the other vehicles around me. It will slowly accelerate as the vehicles around me pull away. In addition to that, when I am on the highway and I need to accelerate quickly to safely pass traffic, I have to push the pedal to the floor to ensure that the truck will actually accelerate. The dealer just tells me that the software is up to date and they could find no record of similar issues.

Engine revs high coming to a stop. Required both feet pressed hard on the bakes to emergency stop. Speed control quits working then service-stability control comes on, car starts to handle ackwardly, pulls to left then. Cut engine off and it resets, but the cruise control stops working and then that service stability control comes back on. If I don't put on the cruise control, I don't get that stability control message so far. Braking problem happens when comes to a stop. Cruise control happens at highway speeds but sometimes going 45 mph.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving 70 mph, the cruise control failed. Upon further inspection, the contact was informed that the brake lights also failed. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 77,000.

My cruise control and my rear driver's side top tail light went out a week or so ago. Today, my stop lights stopped working completely, including the 3rd brake light. I was almost rear ended and another driver informed me that my brake lights didn't work. After researching the issue, I discovered that the problems I'm experiencing are related to 2 switches above my brake pedal-the stop lamp switch and the brake cruise release switch. I called the chevy recall hotline and provided my VIN #. The girl lacy informed me there wasn't a recall for my vehicle and that they would do nothing to help me get the problem resolved. I've seen numerous reports online of other people with the same issue being denied as well. The reference # to my call is 71-1478975898. I believe this to be an extreme safety hazard and would like chevy to cover the cost of the repair and any accidents I may get into as a result of this problem. Thank you. Andrew bihn.

Brake lights and cruise control do not work. Checked fuses and they were good. Likely due to faulty brake switch. There is a recall out for this issue but it does not cover the 2010 model.
While driving on the freeway, the truck accelerated to 90 mph, and only stopped accelerating when I applied the brakes. Cruise control switch was in the off position. Chevrolet dealership said it was not a problem.
Brake lights and cruise control do not work. Checked fuses and they were good. Brake switch and electrical controller faulted required replacement.
The electric system is is knocking out the brake light and cruise control on all 2004 and up chevorlet Colorados. I was driving home from work just to be pulled over because the brake lights wasn't working he told me the guy behind me almost nailed me because of it. I didn't know! but I did know of the Colorados having a big problem with the electric system knocking out the brake lights and cruise control. So I got on line to see just how bad it was and found out it's no laughing matter all most every chevorlet Colorado truck has this problem. Just thank of comming to a stop from 65 miles an hour and not having brake lights, I and some people on the road with me got lucky today. I called two of my closest gm dealers to try to get it fixed today and asked did they know of a problem like this and they did but gm has no recall it's at the owners exspense to get it fixed, while I told them both what I found out online. . . . The answer from one no one has died yet. **** that's what it takes to get some things fixed now days for some one to die before the companies to fix a defective vehicle. . . Please some that can force gm to fix the problems with the Colorado trucks please help us owners of these trucks outwe can't keep spending money like this I also have spent houndrerds on other problems through out the seven I owned the truck. . . Times are tight can't just got to and buy a nother vehicle. . . Look online these truck are prone for trouble and people don't know it until the have brought the truck.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving the cruise control became stuck in the "on" position no matter what speed the vehicle was traveling. He was able to slow the vehicle down when the brakes were engaged but as soon as you let go of the brakes it would accelerate. The dealer or general motors were not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were approximately 22,000.
When using the cruise control on my 2006 Chevrolet Colorado, particularly when going downhill, the cruise control does not hold the set speed. Setting the cruise control at 55 mph and then going downhill, the vehicle will accelerate up to 64 or 65 mph. Obviously, to obey traffic laws, the brakes are applied and disengages the cruise control. However, when the cruise control is set at 65 mph, and goes down hill, the speed will only increase to only 67-68 mph. I have tried setting the cruise control at 55 mph on various roads going downhill, and the results are consistent. The speed of the vehicle will increase by 9 to 10 mph. When I first purchased the vehicle, general motors did contact me soliciting my feedback on the new vehicle. I did make the representative aware of the problem with the cruise control. I was also asked if I would be willing to talk to an engineer about the problem. I was agreeable to this, but was never contacted by gm. I had the cruise control checked by my dealer. The dealer found that the cruise control was working according to specifications. The vehicle was not tested under the same driving conditions that I experienced the problem. I have also sent a letter to gm Chevrolet customer assistance two weeks ago, in regard to the cruise control problem. As of this date, I have had no response. On a separate note, I have other Chevrolet pick-up trucks in the family and the cruise control holds the set speed going down the same hills that the cruise control fails on the 2006 Colorado. This problem has been occurring since January when I purchased the vehicle.

The cruise control stopped working. I paid little attention to this as it did not impair the operation of my truck. Little did I know that my brake lights were not working either. This was due to a brake lamp switch failure. A recall was issued by Chevrolet in 2006, and my vehicle was repaired. In 2010 my cruise control went out again. I knew from the first time that this was a severe safety issue and checked my brake lights. They were not working. It was the very same problem. The brake lamp switch had went bad again. I contacted Chevrolet and they refused to pay for the repair, siting "normal wear and tear". The local dealer did pay half of the repair as a courtesy. Now, in 2012 the brake lamp switch has went out again and my local dealer is talking with Chevrolet to try and get them to pay for the repair. We will see if they stand behind their product and treat a loyal customer right.
: the contact stated when cresting a hill the cruise control will over accelerate by 3 to 4 mph. The momentum causes the accelerator to disengage, when it re -engages the vehicle accelerates as much as 15 mph more than the set speed. The hill does not have to have a decline for the acceleration. The owner's manual states this could happen and the brake should be applied after cresting the hill. The dealership was able to duplicate the problem and determined it is an anomaly in the programming of the computer. Other model year vehicles were driven and the dealership determined it happened with those vehicles. The brakes slow the vehicle sometimes, but the cruise control must be deactivated to completely remedy the problem. Updated 02/07/06.
