While driving my family home on a hot 90+ degree day. My 2016 chevy Colorado suddenly has a power loss engine died and I went from 75 to parked in less than 30 seconds. Luckily I was able to pull off the freeway to the median. We were almost hit by two vehicles pulling a trailer and the other pulling a RV. I had to have someone pick my kids up due to the hazards of being stranded on the side of the freeway. We had to have the truck towed. The code we got was for a fuel pump control module. We replaced and had it programed. This did not fix the issue. After further diagnostics from a auto mechanic shop, which we had to pay out of pocket. We learned it was a lifter failure. I have see numerous forums and people sighting "lifter failure" in chevy vehicles. Where most of us owners have to cover all cost out of pocket. Yet still "no recall" for this issue that seems to be worth a recall. Next issue the speed sensor which we have replaced it 3 times now in less than 2 years.

2024 Chevrolet Colorado with intermittent safety defect at highway speeds. Vehicle displays p215b along with service esc, service traction control, and reduced acceleration. Speedometer becomes erratic and the vehicle loses reliable speed signal at highway speed. Dealer kept vehicle for 15 days, stated repairs were made, but the same issue returned within about 2 miles of pickup on the highway. Vehicle was returned to dealer immediately. As of April 2, total days out of service will be 21. I do not believe the vehicle is safe to drive or safe to transport my family in. Gm case has been opened. This is an ongoing safety issue involving loss of speed signal and reduced acceleration during highway operation.

Cruise control I was nearly in a severe accident because of the way Chevrolet cruise control works when I was on the highway and traffic slowed down briefly and my vehicle continued to run at the set miles and didn't slow down when I was approaching the vehicle in front of me. When I purchased the vehicle (2025 chev Colorado) I was not informed that 'gap' detection does not work as it does in most other modern vehicles. This feature is only available in higher end vehicles in what they call adapter cruise control. My pamphlet "getting to know your 2025 Colorado explains how to use acc with no mention it is an option only available on higher end vehicles. I consider it a safety hazard that cruise control in its normal setting does not use the gap setting as most modern vehicles do making it a safety issue, especially when you have a 2nd vehicle that works this way automatically. It was only after 2 service visits that I was told that how it works and that even though it is an option, it is not something that Chevrolet can install in my vehicle. Making it even more confusing the 'gap' setting is available on my steering wheel controls making the user think this option is actually available when, in fact it is not. I feel Chevrolet needs to fix this potential safety issue by making the cruise control work in the same manner other manufactures have done for several years.

Vehicle accelerated on its own at a stop and then at highway speeds. Took it to dealership who experienced the same thing and confirmed the issue and could not find the reason why.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? to my knowledge, which is limited on vehicle diagnosis, the engine valve body is having an issue finding a gear when starting from a stop. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the vehicle engine will sputter and jolt forward and attempt to go to a higher or lower gear when approaching the stop . Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?the problem is reproducible, but the dealership is stating I would need a check engine light to have it serviced or seen. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no visible alerts of fault when issue occurs or thereafter.
The high mounted stop lights and the cruise control do not work. A recall for this was issued (NHTSA 06v13900 and NHTSA 09v310000) but when I enter my VIN it says I'm not included in the recall. Also, a dealer said my vehicle was not in the recall. If I have the problem stated in the recall why am I not included? I am the original owner. First noticed problem about six months ago. Did not know about the recall until yesterday.

The stibilitrack in the truck went out just after 20 minutes of driving in 34 degree rainy weather at 65 mph. Found out that it was the passenger front bearing reluctor had chipped away, which is what the wheel speed sensor reads. Once one those go out, you lose stibilitrack and abs. I believe that this is a significant safety issue, and a poorly engineered/designed system. The rear system reads gear which is what should be in the front should have as well, not a "magnetic ring". This should be fixed so that noone gets injured or killed. It's also a waste of consumer money that you have to change out an entire wheel bearing hub assembly to fix the issue. Shame on the company. In the photos, notice that half the black ring (the reluctor) is missing.

Date: April 19th, 2024 | location I-95 (pooler georgia) leaving costco 1 ½ after entering entrance headed to savannah. I was traveling at approximately 60 miles a hour with heavy traffic alongside me and a tractor trailer behind me when I felt my truck quickly DE-accelerate on its on. Then I saw the “sudden warning on dashboard, “reduced acceleration – drive with care” then the 2nd warning on dashboard, “ service traction control. ” I was almost rear ended by the tractor trailer. I was never so startled but I keep my nerve…. Got over to the right lane at slowed speed (it was weird. Speed slowed but felt like I was in high gear…. ) I droves about a ½ mile …. Got off at next exit and pulled over at gas station. I turned car completely off and tried to reset computers, but it would not. I decided to drive under 35 miles a hour on side streets to dan vaden dealership. The component that failed entirely: from customer invoice #490790: "scanned for dtcs p060c set in ecm internal module diagnostic dtc. Si diagnostics led to replacement of module that set dtc | 4025390 engine control module replacement (1 127254415 (s) module) milage at tine of of incident. 830 miles. Brand new truck. The dealer explanation was they did not know why the engine control module (ecm) failed, I asked to see the failed component, she said they immediately sent it back to chevolet for review) by the way, the saleman at woody folsom automotive, inc in baxley georgia will not call me back. (purchased late March 2024). 3rd truck I purchased from them.
Power steering went out, impossible to steer, no warning, able to force off road. H ad happened several times before at intervals would return after several minutes of car motor off. Saw at dealership originally but no answer found till yesterday when it happened again. Dealer" internal fault with steering gear".
The computer screen jumps around with the dash data when you are driving. The radio changes functions and channels. This is a huge distraction and dangerous when driving. Additionally, when you turn the radio off the screen keeps jumping around to different functions and channels.

I was sitting at a traffic light stopped when all of a sudden the truck tried to accelerate, I stood on the brakes to get it to stop then all of a sudden it was like I was giving it gas again and I hit the car in front of me again but harder the second time.

I turned my vehicle on and noticed the instrument panel screen was completely off. I tried to turn it off and on again and it stayed off. I had to drive home with no instrument panel. After 5 hours I turned on the truck and it finally came on.
A known wire chaffing problem for this make/model caused vehicle to loose all transmission power. Doors unlocked and locked on their own while moving the vehicle. Had two young children with me in 100+ degree weather. Truck finally moved in first gear at 20 mph max to get home on the road with other traffic.
We purchased a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado December 2022. Beginning in January 2023 to current month July 2023 the vehicle has been at the dealership 4 times for the same occurrence: service stabilitrak and engine power is reduced a warning “ding” sounds (the same noise as seatbelt, door ajar, etc) simultaneously with the messages “service stabilitrak” and “engine power is reduced” the vehicle immediately is jerking or lurching, the engine no longer runs smoothly and is misfiring. The engine power reduced does not allow safe acceleration, and the vehicle is unstable (as it moves it feels like driving over a thousand speed bumps over and over), the engine misfiring is heard from the exhaust and the vehicle is visibly vibrating, on acceleration the maximum speed is 20 mph. All 4 times this has happened while driving the vehicle on highways in traffic. We are left unable to get out of the way of moving traffic, unable to accelerate, change lanes or make turns safely. Three of the four times we had the vehicle towed to the dealership. The last time the vehicle did this fortunately I was near our local dealership and drove it less than a mile so the service people could “witness” what I had been trying to explain what’s been happening with this vehicle. This is a very serious issue! my husband is 75 and very ill. I have to drive him 100+ miles for treatments on a regular basis. We cannot continue to be put in danger because of this vehicle default. We need this problem fixed not only for ourselves but for the safety of others, including unsuspecting drivers and innocent passengers, young, elderly, disabled, some simply misunderstanding our vehicles “failures to perform” in traffic on the roads. A trusted vehicle is very important. A stabile vehicle with sufficient engine power is a must if we are going to put it on the roads. “service stabilitrak” and “engine power is reduced” is not new. General motors needs to take action to correct this problem and educate dealers.

The power steering keeps failing and this is dangerous once the vehicle is in motion. The most recent incident was July 4th 2023. We have taken the truck to lawley Chevrolet sierra vista az (mando flores-service advisor)several times within the last year and they claim they can't find anything wrong. We can't drive it until the steering is properly fixed. It's impossible to drive. We have to constantly pull over and turn off vehicle for the electrical system to reset . Then we drive for about 1/8 miles then the issue starts all over again. Once the power steer light comes on to include the stabilitrak warning lights then the vehicle is almost impossible to steer. My wife drives the truck most of the time and it's very dangerous and it's not easy for her to steer this vehicle once the power steering goes out. I'm disabled and not able to drive the vehicle in case the power steering goes out. Please thoroughly investigate this vulnerability & issue a recall to fix this issue.
Anytime I drive down a moderately steep hill, the transmission down shifts to a lower gear and the rpms go above 5000. It seems to get stuck in this gear for a bit of time. If I speed up, the rpms get to about 6000 before shifting. Otherwise, I’ll need to slow the vehicle considerably before it will change gears. I contacted the dealership and they told me to bypass it by switching to the manual shifting gear.
I like to have metric units active in my vehicle and this Colorado enables me to switch to metric (I. E. 24h clock, temperature in celsius, mileage in km,. . . ) it is my understanding that, in the us, this function is allowed but the current speed must also always be displayed somewhere. This is not the case. When switching to metric all units everywhere switch to metric, also the current speed is not shown anywhere in miles, so I can never make sure that I am not exceeding the speed limit. It also affects the cruise control function as, also there, I can not see the speed in miles per hour. I have brought up this topic to the manufacturer and was told "working as designed" I think this needs to be addressed with the manufacturer and a sw update needs to be released to keep at least one display always on miles when going to metric units.

The stabitrac system malfunctioned and went into low power mode while on the highway almost in an accident because of speed loss. The button to turn it off did nothing. Still unsure what caused this to malfunction but needs to be a way to override to maintain speed without power loss.
Beginning in 2018, perhaps earlier, I noticed that often when I would press the accelerator all the way, the engine would (and still does) make a sound (I’ve since learned, through many dealership interactions and internet searches, that the sound is referred as pinging or knocking from pre-detonation), and it seemed that the car’s computer would (and still does) electronically back off the throttle, and the rpm’s reduced in terms of speed of acceleration (sometimes the rpm’s even decreased as opposed to merely increasing less rapidly). This has placed myself and passengers of the car in danger by causing the car to go through intersections significantly slower than I (as well as my mother who also occasionally drives the car) would naturally anticipate, as this slow crossing through the intersection has led to many close-calls when intersecting traffic (when they have the right-of-way) almost crash into the broad side of the truck. It used to occur I would put in any fuel with an octane rating lower than 91, but now it even happens with 91 octane fuel. The problem has been reproduced by two Chevrolet dealerships. I have taken it in many times to have them repair/replace/service parts that I thought might be causing the problem. The shop foreman at one location replicated it and said he had no idea what the cause could be. The service dept. Was then in back-and-forth contact with engineers at gm over the next couple of days, and the engineers eventually suggested an oil system flush thing (which ended up not helping). It’s had oil filter changes, fuel induction service, and basically everything short of replacing the injectors or pistons. Neither the vehicle nor its components have been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. No warning lamps or messages have ever displayed in relation to the problem. My CO-worker’s husband has a 2018 GMC canyon with a v6, and says the exact same thing happens with his car.
While driving on the highway "service stabilitrack" warning suddenly appeared. The warning went away, but the light on the dash stayed illuminated as if I had manually turned off stabilitrack. Dash then indicated traction control was turned off, speedometer, rpm gauge, and temp gauge all started bouncing around and fuel range indicated "--". Also received a warning that power steering is not functioning. Vehicle would not appropriately change gears (automatic transmission), causing issues maintaining speed. I have a video of the gauges (taken by my partner while I was driving) that can be sent via email, or screenshots can be uploaded upon request. An online search yields several forum posts indicating this is a repeated issue for this model year, causing significant safety issues and leaving individuals stranded. Within forums I discovered a service bulletin regarding the issue, but it appears no one felt this was important enough to issue a recall or notify owners. I have not yet been able to get to a dealership for repairs, as this occurred on a weekend (while I am 14 hours away from home), but I will be contacting a dealer Monday morning.
The wiring harness was touching the air condenser line. The line gets hot when air conditioning is used. It melted causing my truck to throw a lot of random alarms. It also would turn my cruise off and make it down shift all of a sudden startling me. Melted wires are also a fire hazard. There is a bulletin for wire harness chafing that GMC knows about this issue. If it had melted something major and shut my truck down while driving down the interstate it would put me and anybody around me in danger. It was wired back together but is still not fixed. Might need a new wiring harness.

My truck has a issue when you are going down a hill it shifts into a lower gear. This is an automatic transmission. This can cause my truck to slide and spin in bad weather. I have seen people comment about this issue on some Colorado forums. It has done this many times and at times I have pulled over and placed it in park.
2016-2020 chevy Colorado and GMC canyon diesel models have faulty dpf and def systems that fail within <20-60k miles. They do not warranty it as powertrain, and it is a common problem. Safety issue: while out of state, the vehicle regenerating exhaust cleaning cycle can not properly clean the system. It then goes into limp mode. 2 dealers have tried to fix it, with no avail. Limp mode limits speed from 65mph with no power on hills, to 55, then 4mph. . Read more...
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that his wife was driving 60 mph and the vehicle loss motive power and stalled. The vehicle was restarted and slowly driven to the side of the roadway. The vehicle was turned off and restarted and independently accelerated. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The vehicle was taken to laria Chevrolet - Buick inc. (112 e ohio Ave, rittman, OH 44270) to be diagnosed however, a cause was still pending. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 29,000.
This issue has been occurring since we purchased the vehicle in October of 2019. The vehicle will be traveling at various speeds at varius rpm's in various weather conditions. Vehicle symptoms as follows in order of occurrence: 1) engine will momentarily hesitate, 2) error code service stabilitrak will be presented on screen with service engine light and traction control light on 3)rpm gauge and spedometer gauge will go to zero 4) power steering system failure "drive with care" error code presents on screen 5) failure of power steering system occurs with no control of power steering system 6) driver will secure engine and computer system and wait 60 seconds 7) computer audibly resets with a click 8) engine will restart with 5-key turns 9) error will occur again sporadically these symptoms are extremely difficult to replicate and will sporadically occur, sometimes with a complete failure of the power steering system and other times with a failure ofthe stabilitrak system only. Driver believes that this is occuring due to malfunctioning steering gear. Steering gear has been recalled previously for vehicle make/ model and year but truck does not fall under manufacture date. Driver believes issue is related to recalled item on other vehicles. Driver has had vehicle serviced at three different locations for a total of 4 different visits. Jeff belzers in lakeville serviced vehicle twice and was in possession of vehicle for nearly 4 months trying to fix issue. Replaced steering gear. Belzers was also dealer who sold vehicle. (oct2019-feb2020 visit) suburban Chevrolet service center in eden prairie visit once inconclusive (November 2019 visit) power Chevrolet service center in newport oregon visit once inconclusive (July 2020 visit) driver is extremely worried about safety and drivability of vehicle and knows of several similar cases with vehicle.
About a year ago, I started getting a slight shudder in my transmission so I took it to the dealer for repair. They couldn't get it to shudder. Several times I'll be driving down the road at or around 45mph and the truck will start shuddering so bad I feel like I have to pull off the road. Every time I take it to the dealer for repair I end up losing my truck for a day and they tell me they can find anything wrong even though this is a known issue and there is a TSB out to fix the issue.
Received a p2138 throttle/pedal position sensor/switch "d"/"e" voltage correlation code while driving that caused "reduced power" and "stabilitrak" errors. The reduced power mode it went into made the truck unable to accelerate in a safe manner and made the truck "jump" wildly as it attempted to accelerate.
The original owner of my vehicle successfully had gm buy back this truck. The nox sensors and wiring harness had been replaced three times which cleared the codes and allowed the vehicle to appear to be in proper working condition. When gm bought the vehicle back from the original owner, gm went through and supposedly "fixed the issue" and branded the title as a manufacturer buyback and put the vehicle back on the market to the general public. I purchased this vehicle knowing all of this and trusting that if gm said they fixed the issue, they had really fixed it. Now I am a year into ownership and this vehicle is still under warranty, however this is the third time that this same exact thing that the original owner had an issue with has surfaced. The vehicle speed is limited when this occurs making the vehicle dangerous to drive on the roads. The vehicle is always in motion when when this occurs and usually on an interstate far from the dealership.
On the freeway , a power steering signal turned on . Suddenly steering wheel became locked . Tires pushed car to the left . Brakes , gas , entire truck stalled. Vert dangerous and came with no warning. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.
I put larger tires on my Colorado. The local Chevrolet dealer says they cannot correct the speedometer reading. I am told I can buy the necessary software from gm, but I can't find it, nor can anyone at the dealership tell me how to obtain it. Until now, it was possible to get the speedometer corrected. So, I don't know how fast I am going.
The check engine light came on it popped up engine power reduced wouldn't go over 35 miles and hr on the interstate is not a good thing. I pulled over turned car off. Turned key back on started it was fine. A couple weeks later pulling out in traffic check engine. Light. Comes on and loses power again almost get hit. Go to parts. Store to plug machine for diagnosis. First it said unknown. So we do it again pa201 00 code. Computer said co2 sensor. I was told a TSB bulletin came in for this software update but nobody wants to talk about it they just want to fix it then charge. U for it. But. I think it should be covered software issues shouldn't be absorbed at customers exspense. My truck is a turbo diesel its hard to find parts for it at part store and diagnostic machine just getting in oil filters. Anyway in response of software it should be covered by someone else besides me. Before it loses power and vet's me killed or I. A wreck need issue resolved.
I got a check engine light while and engine goes into reduced power mode. You can't drive in reduced power mode! I have to clear it to move the truck. I did a scan which showed a p2138 code. But its just in memory and the dealer wont fix it unless its an active code but can't drive to the dealer in reduced power mode. Its a catch 22.
The torquer converter its the problem I find out a day on highway I was driving and the truck lose power it takes time to move to other gear and make a weird sound I take the truck to the chevy dealer and they just flush the transmission fluid and they said will fix the problem but after that get it worse it claps when put it in reverse or drive it use to shakes when you driving even at not high speed. The problem is not solve and the guy from the dealer told me GMC will not let them change the part is his own words. He said you have a good warranty don't worry but I need solution and the dealer doesn't show any interest to fix my truck problem, I have to rent a car apparently was cover for my insurance but a week later they call me because they have a issue with the car I rent and just rented for 24 hours. Is why I'm doing this complaint to find someone can help me and finally my truck get fix.
