Several times in the last month, while driving at various speeds, the power steering light and the stabilitrak light come on and I loose power steering. Twice this has happened at higher speeds and on a curve, making it very difficult to control the truck. I drove to dealer, but they indicated no codes were present for the check engien light. I explained it was not check engine rather the other two mentioned above. I have had this happen 6 times now, and the quick cure is to shut the truck off and restart. This resets the electronics and the truck is fine until the next time. Lates occurance was 8/23/22.

Driving my 2016 chevy Colorado lt 4x4 down the highway and also on 2 lane roads in great weather conditions the service power steering and stabiltrak lights came on. Electric steering was disabled and I had extreme difficulty with turning left or right. This is the same recall as gm 15595. Turning the vehicle off and on resolves the issue temporarily. Now it is happening more and more and I do not feel safe with my family in the vehicle.

Truck was stationary. Pulled off road to make a phone call. The power steering light came on on the dash, I tried to turn my steering wheel and nothing. I finally killed the motor and ehen I cranked it back up the light was off and steering had returned. If I had been driving, it would have been horrible, since I am a women and steering would have been impossible.
This happened while driving on the city street at a speed limit of 25mph or 55mph and while turning on a street. The steering wheel gets really hard, unable to maneuver. Steering wheel stop working. The power steering warning indicator light up. Message :( service power steering -drive with care ) we were able to coast to the side of the road and power off engine then restart. The manufacture has been notified three times, last year and this year. Per gm there's nothing it can be done to fix the problem because it doesn't show any code. We took the vehicle to penske Chevrolet multiple times and we always get the same answer, there's nothing wrong, they check and no diagnostic code show on the computer. They only did an upgrade, but that didn't solve the problem.
While driving the trac control and power steering lights came on the dash immediately followed by a loss of power steering. The vehicle was extremely difficult to turn creating a very serious safety situation. It was pulled over to the side of the road and restarted. The power steering came back on. Chevy service says the gear steering box needs replaced at a cost of almost $2000. There is a recall for this same issue but my vehicle is not included because it was built 2 months before the recall date, several others are reporting the same issue on these new trucks coming off the assembly line just prior to the recall date of January 6, 2015. I'm not sure what gm changed that the first few thousand trucks produced in late 2014 are not part of the recall. Same issue, very serious safety issue, new truck, and the customer is expected to pay the $2000 to fix it. I wish gm would consider extending the recall to the original 2015 Colorado's that first came off the assembly line. It is obviously a problem!.
