1 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 02/12/2021

My 2016 Colorado is experiencing the exact same issue as the 2015 Colorado covered by gm recall 15595. Often when driving the vehicle power steering assistance is lost and the steering reverts to manually steering and is very hard to control the vehicle and get the vehicle to a save place. Gm states that my vehicle is not covered by the recall even though many 2016 Colorados have the same issue as the 2015. The initial recall apparently did not cover enough vehicles.

2 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 05/11/2020

Earlier this week a "check steering, bring in for service", and the stabillitrac light came on. Steering was tight, this while sitting in my driveway. We had it towed in to Chevrolet and they reset something and the problem temporarily went away. We found out it was temporary because was on the interstate going about 50 to see her parents when the warning lights came on and the steering froze up. She was able to get it off the interstate, no power steering, and have it towed back to the dealer ship. Supposedly this issue was corrected back in 2016 but here it is happening again. Very dangerous situation. I've never heard of someones power steering freezing up like that, let alone on a 5 year old vehicle. We could get killed. It would seem poor engineering on chevys part if something like this is going on. And the problem is nation wide. Are they going to put in a part that will fail in 3 years, while going 70 mph??? scared to drive it now. Reagan manuel.

3 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 04/28/2019

The power steering maintenance and traction control comes on while driving and locks up the steering. I had to pull over immediately because I wss driving on a city street, turning into the residential area where I live. The steering was hard. I tutned off the vehicle restarted and the wsrning messaged were gone and I regained the power steering. This had happened twice while driving.

4 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 03/22/2019

Power steering failure. My 2015 chevy Colorado truck, with 41,153 miles, had a power steering failure 4 days ago (March 22, 2019). While traveling on a dry, smooth road at 30 mph and while braking, the stabilitrak "off" warning light came on, as well as a power steering assist warning. There was an immediate loss of power steering, and the steering wheel was very hard to turn. Initially I thought the truck had stalled, but it had not. I was able to make 2 right-hand turns at slow speed to get out of traffic and into a parking lot. I had to use a lot of muscle to steer the vehicle into the lot. I turned off the truck then restarted and the warning lights were off and power assist returned to normal operation. I have not had any problems with the truck until this episode. I checked the VIN number against a recall list and there is no current recall for this vehicle (that I'm aware of). I've placed a call to the chevy dealer service manager and I'm a waiting for a return call. In the meantime my wife is afraid to drive the vehicle, and I keep both hands on the steering wheel wondering if it'll happen again under less favorable circumstances.

5 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Colorado

Failure Date: 10/23/2012

2012 chevy Colorado extended cab 2x4 i4 engine lt1. The problem is in the steering. The steering is extremely hard turning. The steering does not return to center at more than 30 degrease when after making a turn. When starting out, turn wheel 90 degrease and then proceed forward and the steering wheel will stay in this position and car will just drive in circles. Took to andrew chevy had sae certified tek test drive, stated there is a problem make an appointment. Andrew called and said it would need a new rack and pinion, replaced. Still all steering is the same. Took to heiser chevy they looked at it and the rack and pinion was leaking oil. Heiser replace rack and pinion still steering not fixed. Two days later power steering pump goes out. Heiser replaced power steering pump. Still remains with steering problem, does not return and really hard to steer. Like a tank. 900 miles, $23,000. 00 hmmmm. Chevy customer service useless telling me now that this is the way the truck is supposed to be. Not, owned a 2008 same model never had and issue like this and all good operating vehicle do not steer like this!!! when driving this truck be very aware and ready to return wheel "dangerous". Surely not what I learned in drivers ed, after making the turn let the wheel slide back threw your hands. 51 and some things you never forget. . .
