At ~20,300 miles, severe chassis and steering wheel vibration occurred during high-speed highway descents while braking. Safety risk: reduced steering control at highway speed. The vehicle was inspected by a franchised Chevrolet dealer in lakewood, CO. The technician's written service notes document rear rotor lateral runout (lro) of 0. 006 inches against gm's maximum allowable specification of 0. 002 inches per gm service bulletin 00-05-22-002 — 3x the engineering limit. The defect was confirmed in dealer documentation and is available for inspection. After I identified this discrepancy, the service manager claimed the technician meant 0. 006 mm (metric). Photographic evidence from the dealer's own diagnostic video shows a dial indicator clearly labeled in 0. 001-inch increments with the needle resting on the 6th tick mark. A metric reading of 0. 0002 inches is physically impossible to display as 6 full divisions on this tool. Gm customer assistance denied the warranty claim, classifying it as maintenance. Lateral runout is a geometric specification, not a wear measurement. A rotor 3x out of tolerance at 20,300 miles is a material or assembly defect. No warning lamps appeared. The safety concern remains unresolved.

Power steering fails while driving completely goes out. Shut car off and back on, it goes away. Then driving it will go out again, been to multiple places and nothing seems to fix it.
Excessive frame corrosion that has caused the bed of the truck to touch the cab which has made me apprehensive to drive it. The truck has rot holes on the bottom sections of the frame where water collects. The truck is available for inspection upon request at any time. The problem has not been inspected by a dealer, independent service center, vehicle manufacturer, police or insurance representative. However, I have 40 years experience of being an automobile technician and am qualified to make the above claims. Thank you for your assistance.

Power steering and stabilitrak will suddenly go out while I’m driving with no warning. Recall repair was already performed 6/2023 yet I’m still experiencing the problem. I contacted the dealer within a few days of the repair and explained the problem was still occurring. The lady I spoke to said I didn’t tell them I was already having problems with the power steering when I dropped off the vehicle for repair. I was informed I would have to pay for the additional repair out of pocket.
There is a squeak that comes from the front suspension at low speeds. I have taken it in for repairs twice, the last time it was in the dealership for one month. They replaced the bushings and stated the issue was resolved, however the squeak is still present.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. Additionally, the steering was sticking while turning. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the rack and pinion was faulty and needed to be replaced. The rack and pinion were replaced but the failure later reoccurred. Additionally, while driving over bumps in the road there was a clanking sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who determined that the suspension sway bar was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.

I recently purchased a certified 2019 chevy Colorado z71 on June 26, 2023 from healey Chevrolet in poughkeepsie n. Y. While test driving the vehicle I brought to the attention of the sales person that there was a vibration in front left wheel at which time the dealer rotated tires and realigned the vehicle, shortly after picking the vehicle up while driving home the vibration started again and progressively got worse the more I drove as well as the steering becoming very stiff and took effort to turn wheel. I contacted dealer took vehicle back at which time the salesperson test drove it and agreed there was a problem the dealer then replaced the rack and realigned shortly after picking vehicle up while driving the problem started again and got worse the further I drove now vehicle has a mild vibration in front left when driving between 40-50 mph contacted dealer spoke to service manager who stated he wasnt aware of any vibration I explained it was coming back on Monday July 17, 2023 for paint touch up to please see whats going on, later same day took truck to go to store while driving the steering again became very tight as I was turning into parking lot power steering went out almost causing me to hit another car contacted dealer vehicle towed to dealer. Was contacted by ray from service who told me no codes were found and could not duplicate issue said tech drove it and found no vibration he asked for permission to drive home to check it I explained to him I have 2010 silverado 1500 with 200,000 miles that I plow with that steers better than this I also explained my brother owns exact truck same year every except his more miles and steers perfect, I also mentioned that a friend that is a gm tech said theres tsbs on these trucks for this issue he stated he had no knowledge of such which is strange since I clearly see them online. I am afraid to drive it. Something isnt right. I love truck otherwise just want it fixed.

I get an intermittent power steering and stabilitrak warning when driving, and the warning causes my power steering to shut down. The fault clears when I stop the truck and shut off the engine, but it reoccurs at regular intervals ranging from once per week to twice in one day. I took the truck to my local Chevrolet dealer, and they did a programming upgrade to the power steering module and a front-end alignment. This did not fix the problem. It appears that my truck has the same fault that caused the 2015 model to be recalled, so I would expect the dealer to be able to identify the problem.
Frame has rusted to the point it is dangerous to drive looking at available date this is a problem on most model Colorado and canyon mine is so bad I will not drive it and it looks like most of them are the same. I do not know satitics but I am sure there have been many injury’s or death. These results are all related to road salt.

Rear leaf spring mounts and frame rusting through causing a safety hazard. Chevrolet doesn't offer a repair part nor does the aftermarket. The internet is ripe with other owners experiencing this or similar issues.

There is an active service bulletin for 2017 chevy Colorados. My VIN does not fall under that service bulletin. I started two case numbers with chevy. My truck is in the shop for ref service bulletin # 18-na-355. Same problem and the same fix. Mine got so bad the control arms need replaced. Please add my VIN to the service bulletin so chevy will take responsibility for their manufacturing mess up. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado. Upon inspection of his vehicle, the contact discovered a hole in his vehicle's subframe. The contact then had an independent mechanic perform a further inspection of the vehicle and two additional holes were discovered in the vehicle's subframe. The contact called the dealer who sold him the vehicle and was informed that the vehicle was sold as is. The contact was also given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 141,000.

Mechanic had the truck on the lift raised up to check the brakes for squeaking and while under the truck the mechanic inspected the frame because he noticed a lot of rust and called me to come look at it and pointed out that the frame has rotted to the point that he should not be driven and could break in half and cause major problems for the safety of the occupants and other drivers on the road. I looked up online if other Colorado owners had the same issue and others have the same problem. I’m am forced to junk this vehicle even though the rest of the truck is in very good condition.

The hub assembly came apart while driving which disabled the steering of the vehicle. We have replaced the hub assemblies 5 times in the last year, due to faulty design of the parts, and were well aware there could be an issue because the first time it happened it didnt lock up completely while driving and would start making a squealing noise. We bought this truck in 2018 with 49000 miles on it and have put 45000 mile on the truck in the last 4 years. That's not excessive and to have to replace an assembly that is supposed to last the lifetime of your vehicle 5 times in a year and a half is ridiculous.

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact had taken his vehicle for state inspection and was informed by an inspector that there was significant corrosion on the main undercarriage suspension. The contact was informed by the inspector that due to the severity of the corrosion, the vehicle could no longer be driven. The vehicle failed the inspection. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
Right rear shock lower mount / eyelet split in half causing shock to simply hang from upper mount. Vehicle was parked when failure was noticed.
The multimatic dssv damper in the left rear lost its fluid through a leak. Various forums indicate there is a design flaw with the dssv for the zr2. A blown shock renders the vehicle unbalanced, and marginally safe in unexpected rough terrain or when pulling a trailer. These dampers or shocks have shafts that are too thin and poorly designed seals, causing them to leak.
The frame of the truck rotted and is no longer driveable without a chance of an accident. The PA inspection is about to run out also and will not pass inpection. I bought this truck used and just paid it off and was hoping I was clear of any vehicle payments. At this point there is no way I will even get close to what I paid for it as it is only good for scrap. I agree with another post I saw on here that said if Toyota had to recall their vehicles for the same reason then why does gm not have to do the same thing? it only seems right. I know they have heard of this issue but are just trying to brush it under the rug hoping it doesn't come up. Hoping you have our back on this with trying to protect the consumer.
Vehicle has 96,800 miles, and the frame has completely rusted through causing the rear suspension to detach from the frame, as well as the bed to detach from the frame. Vehicle is no longer able to be put on lift to have tires rotated as the frame disintegrates upon contact. This is a very well known problem, and I am curious why the federal government has not forced gm to recall these vehicles like Toyota was forced to do with their identical situation. Do your jobs, and hold these corporations accountable for cheap workmanship.
In our truck the power steering has been off and on since 2017. We called and visited multiple dealerships who admitted GMC/chevy knows there is a problem but our vehicle VIN was not associated with any fixes. Since April 2021 we have had zero power steering, also the stabilitrak light has always come on at the time of power steering loss. We have always had to use this truck for work and bought a 4 cyl for that exact purpose because its good on gas. I'm a nurse and travel sometimes 200+ miles daily for my job. I've had multiple near misses since the beginning of this problem and so has my husband, that could've ended very badly due to losing power steering in the middle of a turn etc. Well, my husband did have an accident January 15, 2021 when he had no power steering on a major highway. He was unable to evade a crash in front of him due to the steering loss. We are in an impossible situation and no dealership (they say this is an issue "way over dealership level") will help. GMC/ chevy doesn't care, there is " no fix available" even though at may this year we have finally been added to the recall. Why is it I have to worry about my own and my husbands life whenever one of us has to drive this vehicle. The recall literally states driving will increase the risk of a crash. Why is it ok? will somebody please help us? please.
Popping noise from the front end when turning left or right and applying brakes. Come to find out the frame is cracked on both left and right frame rails at the factory welds. This truck has never been in an accident and I'm the original owner. The chevy dealer condemned the truck for safety reasons and said the only repair is to replace the entire frame.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and he was informed that the driver's side subframe and brackets were severely corroded. The mechanic informed him that the corrosion was so severe that the vehicle could not be repaired. Additionally, the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The contact took the vehicle to baumann Chevrolet Buick GMC inc (2291 OH-18, tiffin, OH 44883) where he was provided the number to NHTSA and offered no further assistance. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 154,000.
I'm on disability ,hard of hearing, and bad spine,,,but I bought this truck at fieldmans in lansing mich,,the dealer or carfax did not mention that the frame was rusted and broke on driver side rear leafspings,,now what do I do.
Had vehicle on lift for safety inspection found the frame of the vehicle rotted out behind the cab near the left leaf spring mount. The spring mount has since collapsed into the frame making the vehicle inoperable and a safety hazard. No parts are available from the manufacturer to repair. There are many documented instances of a problem with these frames rotting out in the same area or worse.
I have the dssv shocks on my zr2. It has 58,000 miles on it and the dssv shocks are leaking. To my knowledge this shock is supposed to be for the life of the vehicle. I know there was a recall on some 2015-2017 dssv shocks mine is a 2017 but I have no recall and my shocks are leaking like the recalled shocks. Since the shocks are not working properly it has a lot of body sway and is somewhat unstable I believe the reason for this is because the dssv shocks are not working properly. Both of my rear shocks are leaking and the front shocks seem to bottom out in every bump. Here is the recall number I found #17345. This talks about the rod being brittle and causing a leak.
Front end clucking when going over bumps or pulling into driveways at vey minimum speed.
This 2016 chevy pick up the right fronttire boke loose of the vehical and caused the vehicle to wreck into another car. The suspension on the lower attachment point broke away around the lower tyrod attachment point . The upper broke also at the attachment point . These parts are made of cast aluminum and have the lower tyrod where it attaches on is a tapered part if it is tightened to much t wil cause the casting to crack. It appears that this part had a crack in the part. I am a 49 year machinist nd see that the part is a pore design and is a low grade of cast aluminum use to attach this critical part of the vehicle. This vehicle was traveling less than15 mph when this occurred. Please look into this and let me know if you need more information.
