The truck is the zr2 model, crew cab short bed. I was towing a 2100lb trailer with 347# of tongue weight at 25mph, uphill, on a dirt road. Hit a dip in the road at 25 mph and it bent the frame at the cab/pick up box area. The frame necks down to 3 1/2 inches there with 2 factory large oval holes on both sides of the frame. I have found another pic of a zr2 towing a trailer, and it bent at the exact same place.

Inoticed frame at leaf springs completely rotted. 100000 miles on the vehicle.
I currently own a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado miles are 107,650. My truck is in very good to excellent shape, I take pride in my vehicles. The issue I have is my frame is rotten and cracked at the leaf spring hangers, much to my surprise when I jacked my truck up to change over tires and the rear axle stayed on the ground. Im very grateful we caught this before the right side broke away like the left side did. I do live in maine and they use products on the roads for ice, but my fuel and brake lines are in very good serviceable condition, as is most everything under the truck including the bed. I have been looking for guidance and stumbled onto some "forums" that state first gen Colorado this is common. I am not a forum member, nor do I believe in "internet shaming" I am loyal gm customer, but I it is very disappointing that I have a relatively low mileage truck with a great drive train, and no exterior rust that is completely unsafe and unusable. It sounds like a similar issue that Toyota had ive had and do currently have older gm vehicles with more miles and the frames are in excellent shape. Is gm/Chevrolet doing anything to help consumers?.
The truck has a very rotted frame on it. Seems to be of poor quality and with only120,000 miles and the body is in super condition this should not be happening. . Is there any thing to be done, will Chevrolet do anything at all to help? are we all stuck with this problem as others on line have complained of this. Thanks.
Takata recall my frame rails are rotted thur making truck not driveable, dealer also agreeded and sent papers to gm, in witch they said they would do nothing, I lost a truck with only 89. 000 miles and no body rot witch I had planed on keeping for years to come.

The power steering goes out without warning, stbilitrak also. Car rattles in the front steering area when ging over bumps in the road. There is a recall for 1/15-3/15 build date only which is insane because mine built in 11/14 has the same parts and the same defects. Dealer and gm refuse to help. Claim there is no fix when they know there is. It is even listed on the chevy and nthsa websites.

Severe rust / rot on the frame both on the main frame as well as the front frame work to the point that a salvage yard declared it unsafe to drive. Discovered when I had to replace the rear differential which also snapped due to rust.
The frame is rotting out--I've had to have it repaired--welded--each of the last three years after failing inspection or being told it would. Suspension attachment areas, under and around shackles, cab mounts, long sections of primary frame from front to rear.
Truck sits uneven from side to side . 1" difference at rear wheel wells when sitting on a level surface with no load in the bed and a 1/2 " difference in the front side to side . The rear overload spring leaf with rubber bumper touches upper adjacent spring leaf with no load in the bed on the driver side . Not sure if this could be a safety concern if there is a load placed in the bed causing issues in how the truck handles or could be causing premature tire wear or other issues with other suspension parts . I have been informed that this is a known issue with other Colorado trucks by the dealership I purchased the from . This truck came off of the dealership lot with this problem and gm tech. Assist. Is aware . After almost 3 months nothing has been done .
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. While the vehicle was at the dealer, the technician diagnosed that the wiring harness had fractured. As a result, there were various electrical failures, including illumination of the air bag and traction control warning indicators. The technician stated that the wiring harness needed to be shrink wrapped. The vehicle was repaired. While the vehicle was in park or while driving at various speeds, the vehicle vibrated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but was unable to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that a technician would be sent out to inspect the vehicle. The failure mileage was 176.
When slowing down and then accelerating afterward while in traffic the vehicle does not down shift to the correct gear. The vehicle will then sputter and will be very sluggish to accelerate. This happens while in motion as well as from a complete stop. I was nearly rear ended while making a right turn into traffic and the truck would not find the correct gear and thus would not accelerate enough to get out of the way from oncoming traffic. Several times I thought that the truck was going to kill because it was sputtering so much when in the incorrect gear. Truck also wobbles more than usual when turning and makes a popping sound in a turn. Also, radio acts like it has a mind of its own. Navigation will go haywire as if someone is touching the screen, but no one is touching it. Radio will change channels on its own and volume will increase and decrease without any driver input.
I went to install brakes when the mechanic noticed the jounce bumber missing, but when he looked closer he noticed it was rotted. The jounce buper bracket is part of the frame and it completely rotted out. I called gm and they inspected it and they said there is nothing they could do. I said Toyota replaced all the chasis rotting out in the state of massachusetts, this would be the same the salt brine is rooting out frames and this vehicle is no longer safe. They will not even buy it back. I need your help.
The stabilitrak and power steering goes out intermittently. This is the same part and part number as the ones that were recalled on the 2015 models. It makes no sense for the 2015 part to be recalled and not rhr 2016 when it’s the same problem with the same part number. This causes the steering to freeze and almost caused a fatality without any warning. Please look at the 2015 Colorado recalls to see the documentation this has been happening for the past year and now it’s become more common.
I noticed uneven wear on my tires. So, I stopped at a garage and I was told the tires were under inflated even though I had the tires at the recommending psi. I put the psi in that the technician recommended and the problem seemed to go away. I went in to have a routine oil change done at a local shop a year after this, and I needed to replace all 4 tires. They had worn down on the inside tread to the steel within only 26k miles. The vehicle has been driven conservatively, and mostly highway miles by my wife. So I put four new tires and had an alignment.
Front end will not stay aligned causing heavy wear on inside tire tread. Have had truck re aligned several times and have replaced several sets of tires due to this problem first noticed it in 2007 and have replaced tires at least 5 times just recently replaced again im now at 80,000 miles this time went with 31x10. 5x15 see how this goes.

Bad vibration in my 2006 Chevrolet Colorado between 50-70 mph. I have been to the dealership 6 times with this issue. Here are the things they have checked to try to fix the problem *replace tires with same brand *check drive shaft *replace tires with different brand *force balance tires *check suspension the problem still exists and gm said that there is nothing more that they can do.
: the contact stated while driving various speeds in normal driving conditions, there was a pronounced vibration within the front suspension. The vehicle was inspected by an independent repair shop who determined the vehicle needed an alignment. Afterwards, the problem persisted. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the vehicle needed another front alignment. The contact expressed concern that there may be an issue with the tires wearing prematurely on their own. The tires were general p23575/r15. Additionally, the dealer determined that poor alignment caused the premature wear of those tires. The manufacturer was not notified.
: the contact stated that while the vehicle was being serviced, the private repair shop mechanic determined that the insides of both front tires were worn down to the cords. The mechanic determined that the wear was due to improper alignment.
The contact stated while driving at various speeds the vehicle vibrated. In an attempt to correct the problem the dealer replaced and balanced the tires several times with no success. The dealer has determined the vehicle performs as designed. Updated 7/25/2006 -.
Vehicle causing excessive tread wear on inside of tire, exists on multiple sets of tires. Tread worn completely through, exposing inner layers of tire. If not noticed when it was there was a risk of complete failure for all 4 tires. Manufacturer refused to make adjustments to vehicle after first 4 tires failed (30k miles), continues to refuse service after next 4 showing same problem (15k miles).
Bad vibration at highway speeds of 47-65,tires were balanced, aligned and replaced. Vibration still very noticeable but dealer says its normal. Still waiting for a call back from gm engineers.
The vehicle was taken to two different Chevrolet dealers. It had a rough idle. The consumer felt that it was due to defective tires. They were not willing to replace the tires. Consumer stated there were bubbles on the tires on the sidewall. Ameritech tr general tires. This started a month or two after purchase, but the tires were getting worse with more use. The Chevrolet dealership stated that it was the suspension, but they were not fixing the problem although it was under warranty.
Vehicle exhibits a rough shimmy or vibration at highway speeds. Some vibration evident at all speeds but worse at 55 or faster. Intensity of vibration varies, sometimes not so bad, other times difficult to control vehicle. Dealer says no problem detected. Vehicle is new 2005 Colorado with 850 miles.
This 2004 Chevrolet Colorado, 2 wheel drive truck has vibration and shimmy at highway speeds. The tires are general ameritrac tr 265/75r/15. The tires have been replaced and road tested per the November 2004 bulletin from general motors. The tires have been replaced 3 times with multiple balances, etc. There is abnormal wear of the tires. Purchase date 9/27/04. Beginning of problem 11/22/04, at about 2300 miles. The problem is ongoing with difficulty controlling the vehicle after the new tires wear in a little bit.
Todays date is 04/20/2013 #1- wheel aligement front to back, where rear passenger side tire sticks out from body. #2- this is my forth set of tires because of aligement problems. #3- rear tail lights seem to be burned out, they are not it a poor socket problem, I lube with electrical grease. I can't believe that they are introducing the market with making more of the problems for the new line 2014 and beyond. This is the worst Chevrolet I ever owned the 2004 Colorado. I have owned 14 chevys, will chevys be in my future?.
