The airbag light comes on at startup and stays on. Jiggling the yellow connector under the driver seat will make it go off sometimes. The car has an easy entry feature that somehow disrupts the yellow connector underneath the driver seat. It is my understanding that if the airbag indicator light is on, the airbags will not deploy in an accident. This seems like a major safety issue.

Depending on the position of the drivers seat the airbag indicator on the dash will indicate that the airbags are disabled. In the event of an accident if the airbags did not deploy it could result in serious injury or death. No event has yet to happen for my vehicle, but I feel unsafe knowing that the airbags have a defect that may result in them not being deployed.

After driving the car for two hours it was parked for seven hours. Upon restarting the air bag readiness light came on flashing and would not turn off. The passenger airbag status indictor has also stopped working. So the system does not know if somebody is sitting in the seat. According to the owner's manual it also indicates that the air bags may not deploy in an accident.

Check air bag light is on again. It goes off and on randomly. When is this going to be corrected? my Corvette has been at the dealer numerous times for this issue. They just move the wires under the seat and the light goes out for awhile. At one point they said the pre-tensioner was defective and replaced it. I had an extended warranty at the time and paid my $200 deductible. A few months later the light was back and my dealer was shut down by gm. It went out because they moved the wires not because of a defective tensioner. Their tech 11 saw an open circuit, not a defective tensioner. They owe me $200. That's a laugh. I zip tied the connector's under the seat. That last for awhile and the light comes back. This problem is the exact problem that the Buick was recalled for. The same fix is required for the Corvette. A connector under the seat needs to be removed and the wires soldered together are we waiting for a death? it will happen sooner or later. The air bag will not deploy when the light is on. I have filed many complaint's with the NHTSA and so have many members of the c6 Corvette forum with no luck or response to let us know that you even read them. I continue to hope to get a chance to talk to you. Please call of email me.

The air bag light comes on for while driving this has happened 4 times total. After car shutdown and restart it resets. This is a major safety issue. If it shorts prior to an accident and the airbag does not deploy someone may be injured or even worse die from this ongoing problem.

Started my car after getting off work. Looked at my gauges before pulling out only to notice that my airbag indicator light staying lit. Turned the car on and off but the light continued to stay lit. Drove home with airbag light on. Upon further investigation on the internet. . . . There are a multitude of people with the same issues. The airbag light staying on appears to be caused via a faulty harness connection located under the seat. Seems that Buick's (a gm built model car) have had the same issues but were recalled for the exact same thing. The fact that the airbag light is on means that the airbags will not deploy in an accident causing them to be useless and may lead to severe/fatal injury. Chevy is well aware regarding this issue because they have other model vehicles with the same seat harness configuration where recalls have been performed but has not done a recall on this safety feature on the Corvette. This issue poses a sever safety hazard that requires immediate attention.
Air bag light comes on and stays on, may go off from time to time but remains on while driving. Air bag may not deploy while light is on. No code shows up when light is off, so dealer has been unable to locate problem.

I have complained about this many times with no help or response for NHTSA or gm. Please read my previous request for help. Confirmation numbers 10546935,10544479,10489161, 10511438 and maybe others. It happened again today. I fixed it again with zip ties. I hope it works if I have an accident. This is a common problem with all c6 2005 thru 2013 Corvettes. I even read about a new c7 Corvette with a check air bag light. If you read my other complaints you will see I've had it in the dealers many times. They even replaced a seat belt pre-tensioner that I paid for with no luck. We know what the problem is. It's the connectors under the seat. They are defective and need to be redesigned and replaced before someone is killed because the air bag failed to deploy. You can google it and see many post on the subject. I'm a member the Corvette forum with over 25,000 post. It is a topic of discussion often. Our question that no one will answer is will the air bag deploy when the check air bag light is on? of course no one will answer that. Many owners have given up and drive around with light on.
On Wednesday 7 Nov 2012, I was driving home from work at approx 4:30pm and while changing lanes (from the rh lane to the lh lane, to make a left turn in approx half a mile) when the front driver's side tires popped and I spun, crossed the median, cross two southbound lanes, struck an electricity pole, spun again and finally came to rest on the sidewalk & grass. Neither stability control nor traction control activated once the car began to spin (counter clockwise) which created an uncontrollable and unrecoverable spin. The failure of these systems activate and operate properly could have killed me and destroyed the car. Both systems were fully operational and on. Also, the side airbag did not deploy when the impacted the pole on the driver's side door.
My son purchased this car in may 2012 and wrecked it in June 2012 while driving to work in the rain. The air bags did not deploy despite his hitting a lamp post and a tree. He was not injured and no other cars were involved. We always wondered why the air bags did not deploy but didn't pursue that because we were just glad no one got hurt. My son never quite understood how the wreck happened and now that we have learned of problems with air bags not deploying in some gm cars, we wonder if there might be a problem that should be investigated with regard to Corvettes as well. We got a carfax report on the car before we purchased it and there was no indication that it had been involved in any kind of incident that would have impacted the air bags.

The air bag light is lit solid when the car is on and will not shut off. This is a common problem with early model year c6 Corvettes (2005 - 2007) and gm has not issued a recall on it. . Read more...
Air bag malfunction light turns on intermittently when car goes over a bump, or during quick stop, or sharp turn. This light indicates that the air bags will not deploy. Possibly related to the wiring harness underneath the seats. Since the light comes on during hard steering motion, bump, or rapid deceleration, I assume the air bags are unlikely to deploy during a crash.

Starting on or around August 2011 my air bag light comes on. It has come on and off intermittenly since then. The fix is to jiggle the connector under the seat and then zip tie it. That normally last about 6 months or more but it always comes back. I am concerned that my air bag will not deploy in a severe frontal impact. The dealer is well aware of this problem and says it is something I am going live with. The problem I have with that is I am afraid it might be something I am going to have to die with.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact was driving 25 mph when the power steering failed as the contact attempted a slight turn. The contact crashed into the side of the road and the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and the current mileage was 35,000.

This is an amendment to your odi number 10297619. Our 2003 Chevrolet Corvette has sustained severe undercarraige damage as well as passenger side body damage and wheel and tire damage. Passenger door will not open and drivers door will open when much strength applied to pull it open. There were a couple of minutes after the crash that it was apparent the doors were not going to open without some kind of assistance. Just prior to the crashwe experienced a small fishing of of the rear of the car at which time the accelerator was disengaged and the brakes applied hard. The steering was locked in the position we were driving in at the time which was on a curve. The brakes failed to stop us, and at this time the rpm was racing upward on the car which was accelerating when no gas was being applied at all. One other time when we had to apply the brakes quickly, for a changing light, the rpm raced way up while we were stopped. Our computer said nothing at this time which indicated to us that there was nothing noted about the incident that we could see. Also airbags failed to open! without our seatbelts, the 37 incident among Corvettes would have been the first casuality in the steering lock failure. Most notably and critical of the failures is the steering lock fiailure no. 1, no 2 is brakes failing to stop vehicle and no. 3 is airbags failing to deploy. No 4 is the rpm accelerating when brakes are to the floor. The vehicle is not driveable at this time and is currently in storage until there are resolutions to these failures. Date of crach Dec. 11, 2009 about 9:30 am.
My check air bag dash board light continues to go off and on. It was taken to the dealer several times and I was told unless it was on while I was there the problem could not be diagnosed. Finally in 2008 I was able to drive to the dealer with the check air bag light on. The code said the drivers pre-tensioner needed to be replaced. That was done a few days later and the light stayed off for several months. When it returned I was told if they couldn't see the light no code was set. I spend a lot of time on the Corvette forum. (over 24,000 post) this is a very common problem with the 2005 to current Corvette. The owners have diagnosed the problem as defective connectors under the seats. The automatic seats moving causes the connectors to loosen and the light will come on. I came up with a simple solution that many of us do our selves. We zip tie the connector together. In my case it worked for several years but the light has started appearing again. This is not always the problem as forum members have had components replaced that seemed to help. It's an on going problem and one of these days a Corvette air bag will not deploy during an accident. Gm doesn't seem to care.
I was rear-ended (hit & run) & my 2000 Corvette was pushed into the rear of another car. My car was totaled, both air bags did not deploy. I need to find out why the air bags did not deploy. I was injured & was taken to emergency for care & treatment. I have had all known recalls done, well maintained car, & have kept all records of recalls, repairs, etc.
Consumer was traveling 75 mph on the highway and the steering wheel locked up. Consumer was unable to maintain control of the vehicle, and it crashed into guard rail and flipped three times, landing in a ditch. Upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy. Driver sustained head and neck injuries, and was transported to a hospital. Vehicle was towed and totaled.
Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision, and the airbags did not deploy. Dealer was notified.
