1 Carrier/rack problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 11/18/2016

After filling up my car with fuel, I parked it in the garage when I got home. The next day, my wife woke me up and told me that the garage was full of fuel vapors. Suspecting that it was coming from the Corvette, I looked around the vehicle but did not see any gas liquid on the garage floor. However because the smell was so strong, I took the car out of the garage and parked it in the driveway. The next day I checked and there was still strong gas smell around the vehicle. At that point I decided to take the car to the Chevrolet dealership to have them evaluate the problem. After leaving the car with them, they contacted me the next day and told me that the smell of gas was coming from a crack in the fuel tank. They also told me that the car was not safe to drive because the fuel tank is located in the rear of the vehicle above the exhaust pipes. I told the dealership to replace the fuel tank and any other item in the rear of the vehicle that needed repair. The fuel tank was replace at a cost of $3056. 97. I also had them to replace the fuel pump since they had the tank removed and had access to the fuel pump. Fortunately I was able to use my 10% military discount or the cost would have been higher. After the car was repaired, I researched this issue on the internet and saw where other 2008 Corvette owners had this very same problem with their car. It is evident that there is a defect in these fuel tanks and Chevrolet should officially do a recall on the 2008 Corvettes and any other year model that has the potential to develop cracks in the fuel tanks. If there is no recall, someone could seriously be injured by the fuel tank problem. I hope by documenting this problem it will bring some type of positive resolution from Chevrolet/gm.

2 Carrier/rack problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 05/20/2016

While operating vehicle loses the ability to accelerate, which has resulted in 3 near miss collisions, (one head on incident and two side impact collisions. ) the side impact near miss collisions were after making an attempt at a left turn where there was plenty of time initially to complete the maneuver, the car completely loses the ability to accelerate and is dead in its tracks on the road. The head on near miss collision occurred during an attempt to pass another vehicle. As the car accelerated in the passing zone, and pulled next to the vehicle being passed, the ability to accelerate was lost and thankfully the other driver was able to avoid the collision prior to the ability to accelerate resuming. When the ability to accelerate voids, pushing the gas pedal has no impact on acceleration. These 3 occurrences were the most pronounced and potentially fatal, however, there have been a myriad of instances where the ability to accelerate has stopped momentarily. I am also concerned with the overwhelming chemical odor (plastic smell) emanating throughout the car. After a year of ownership, and leaving windows open while stored, it persists to the point that it remains overwhelming with the windows up and top on. Due to fears for my safety and wellbeing I have been unable to take pleasure in the vehicle I purchased exclusively for enjoyment.

3 Carrier/rack problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

My gm service request numberb is:71-1397351938. The automatic gear selector lever occasionaly got stuck in park (p) and took a long dangerous time to get it worked loose and functioning properly. I lived with it for several months, but it got progessively much worse and more dangerous. I spoke to other Corvette owners and found out that I had a common safty problem for my model. I finally took the car to the dealer that sold it to me (mountain view Chevrolet) who said they had seen a lot of this defect and they then charged me nearly $600 to correct this dangerous defect. Not right!!!! it should have been recalled from the get-go and fixed promptly without charge. Unable to move in traffic, get out of the way of danger, or off of railway tracks is a potential killer. Ther should be a safty recall.

4 Carrier/rack problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 12/15/2013

My 2005 Chevrolet Corvette coupe started making popping and cracking noises at any and all rates of speed some time ago. At a higher rate of speed, the wind noise and whistling sounds are almost unbearable as the noises are so loud. I consulted with youman's Chevrolet in macon, GA as they are the only Chevrolet dealership in our are and they advised me that the top had stated to separate from the lower part and that we would have to purchase a entire new top. Once again, they did not even consider checking to see if there was a recall on this problem. Naturally, our greatest concern is the potential of the upper portion flying off while we are traveling at highway speeds and causing a potential accident to other vehicles or injuries. I recently starting taking the Corvette magazine and much to my surprise, I read that there is a recall on the top. I am disappointed that the Chevrolet dealership did not bother to check on this recall or to advise us of the recall if they were aware of it as we are regular customers and have spent a substantial amount of with them on this Corvette over the last seven years.
