38 Headlights problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 03/21/2014

In my 2005 chevy Corvette, driving north on highway i55 near the louisiana/ mississippi line at 10 pm my lowbeam headlights stopped working. Used hi beams to return home. When car sits for several hours and engine compartment cools off low beams work normally. When engine compartment heats up during normal operation lights extinguish again. Researched on the Corvette forum and found this to be a common problem. The issue is in the fuse box located in the engine compartment. A wire in the box breaks at a bend. I have made the suggested repair as per the forum but felt it important to report the problem as it put me in a dangerous situation.

41 Headlights problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 02/24/2014

In mid February of 2014 my right low beam headlamp on my 2006 Chevrolet Corvette starting turning off within 5-10 minutes of the headlamps turning on and staying off. Daily, each time the headlamps came on the low beam would work then go out. I took my car to the local Chevrolet dealership explaining the right low beam goes out minutes after it comes on daily at dawn or dusk below is what the local Chevrolet invoice c46040 dated February 25, 2014 states: concern: customer states the right low beam head light is inop advise cause: rf low beam bulb inop correction: replace rf low beam bulb, all lights operating at this time parts: 000 025735604 bulb tech: xxx I paid $441. 36 to replace a low beam headlamp that GMC/Chevrolet knew was causing issues since may 2013 GMC/Chevrolet has done nothing to this date about announcing a recall but admits to the government that the intermittent headlight failure was due to an electrical short in the engine bay. At this same time my low jack tracking device started having issues and low jack repaired the issue at no cost but Chevrolet charged me for their evaluation of the issue and said it was not the fault of the car. I disagree. I feel very strongly that the electrical short in the engine bay is also the culprit in this situation. I drive commute three times a week round trip 112 miles, the first 30 are before dawn and the last 56 are at night. I was driving with a faulty low beam headlight that could stop working at any time and presented a safety risk to me and other cars. I have called GMC multiple times asking for verification of this particular recall and have been told there is no recall. I feel that GMC/Chevrolet must provide a recall to prevent more Corvette drivers from experiencing situations like mine.

42 Headlights problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 02/16/2014

While driving my vehicle at night, my headlights suddenly turned off. I pulled over and restarting the car hoping it was just a minor electrical short etc. However, the headlights did not respond. I was forced to drive 20 miles in the dark with my fog lamps and at times, my high beams. I am aware of an existing investigation relating to this problem and it appears that this problem is widespread. Clearly having your headlights turn off without warning when you need them poses a significant safety hazard to myself, any passengers and other motorists. I hope the investigation will continue resulting in a conclusive outcome and a resolution identified. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you.

43 Headlights problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 02/11/2014

I was driving my car on the street at night when the low-beam headlights suddenly went out. I pulled over and tried to turn them on again but they wouldn't work. I shut off the car and turned it on again and they still didn't work. I put on my high beams which worked and drove home. The next day I tested the headlights and they worked fine when the car was cool, but they stopped working when the car heated up. I checked the fuses and the relays and they were both fine. After some internet research on this issue, I traced the problem to a broken copper wire inside the fuse box. I replaced this wire and the low-beam headlights now operate the way they should. I think this is a potentially dangerous situation for anyone who is driving their Corvette at night.

44 Headlights problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 01/13/2014

While driving in the pouring rain with my daughter following me in another car the headlights went out. We were on PA mountain roads and I did not know what happened. This was the most dangerous situation. We were 4 hrs from home, I thought the wipers were bad and my vision had failed and the state just didn't paint the lines on the rd. The situation was so bad I had to wait till we found the next exit ramp to pull over. I left the car running and noticed my headlights went off while I was paying for my food and gas. I had to drive home with my highbeams on!!! when we finally got home I was so shaken by the situation I looked it up online to find out this was not and isolated incident!!! recall this before someone is killed!!!.

49 Headlights problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 11/08/2013

While driving, the low beam headlights suddenly went out. After further investigation, a known and documented problem regarding the fuse block under the hood was the culprit. There is a copper wire within the fuse block that loses connection due to the high heat that occurs in the fusebox circuitry but to date, gm has not issued a TSB or recall concerning this potentially dangerous issue.

50 Headlights problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

My situation is unique, but it happens hundreds of times every. In Nov and Dec of 2013 and in Jan 2014 my low-beam headlights would go out periodically and I took my car to a Chevrolet dealership who could not determine the specific problem. And I was not told there had been hundreds of complaints about this same issue from other Corvette owners. Why do you think I was not told about hundreds of other complaints? did gm keep it a secret from all the dealers all over the world? when there are hundreds of complaints and problems on one single issue, is that not something that is passed to the dealerships as something to be aware of, to look for, as well as a clue as to how to find and fix the problem? the Chevrolet dealer in Jan they said they could fix the problem by replacing my electrical box at a cost of just over $1,000. 00. I declined, that shotgun approach. They did not find the exact problem as per their invoice. Their shotgun fix would have never made its way to become a gm recall issue. I was told yesterday by the gm dealer they found some wires that was causing my problem. When there is a recall & a gm customer has that recall problem & it's a known potentially serious safety issue and the recall has been announced, it seems the prudent, the reasonable, the common sense, the most cost effective way to solve yet another problem with the recall is for gm to authorize a fix when the the customer is in the dealership with the specific recall problem as in my case yesterday. That is the most common sense safe and cost effective way to handle a situation like mine. I am very disappointed that gm would not authorize a fix right then (yesterday) it would have in the long run saved money for everyone and it would have been cost and safety effective, it's a common sense approach that the best minds at gm overlooked.

51 Headlights problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

Low beam headlights intermittently fail to illuminate. Attempting to toggle between the available positions on the headlight stalk will not cause the lights to turn on. Dash indicates that lights are on, but they are not. This is unsafe at any speed, but terrifying on the freeway at 70 mph.

52 Headlights problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 10/26/2013

My Corvette headlights went out and would not come on until the Corvette cooled down.

53 Headlights problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

In damp weather, the drivers side headlight fogged over from condensation inside lens and the drivers side low beam headlight was observed to be not working. Passenger side headlight had no condensation and working low beam. Both high beams were then turned on and observed to be working. Conditions dried later in the day and headlights were observed to be working. Driver side headlamp condensation dried in 24 hours. Over the prior six months, condensation has been occasionally observed inside the drivers side headlamp but the low beam had not previously failed to light. Chevrolet dealer ( robert's Chevrolet in hicksville NY ) said they would not accept the car for service unless this intermittent problem was present at check-in even though we have photographic documentation.

The low beam headlights do not come on and if you are somewhere after dark, you are forced to drive with high beams only which is distracting and dangerous to other drivers. I am taking the car in to the Chevrolet dealership armed with information on this issue with the Corvette low beam lights and that there are numerous complaints to the NHTSA and the problem is under review. There is additional information on sites like Corvette forum.

55 Headlights problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 09/18/2013

The headlights of the car turn off after a period of time. The high beam has no issue but the low beam turns off. I have to not use the car for a period of time after which the low beam starts working again. This is on and off and I continue to have this problem. Most of the time if the car has been sitting idle they work for a short period of time and then they stop working. The lights turn back on if I stop using the car for a few hours.

Failure Date: 08/23/2013

While traveling to macon GA about 11 pm in the evening, the low beam lights just went out. I took the vehicle to the dealer the next day to figure out what was wrong. The dealer stated the fix would be nearly $1,400 to remove and replace the low beam headlights (required removal of the bumper). They never stated there were problems with the lights or the low beam system or in general, assumed any responsibility whatsoever. Very disappointed to date; sounds like not only a safety issue but one that will cost me to correct.

Started car one night back in July and noticed low beam headlights did not work, drove with hight beams on. Over several weeks noticed they only worked intermittently. After several visits to dealer, about 12 hours of diagnosing, it was determined it was the fuse box and that it was likely over heating. I paid a total of $886. 83 (parts & labor) for repair.

69 Headlights problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

Driving on the freeway, my low bead driving headlights will simply turn off and I would have to resort to the high beams to continue driving. At other times, the headlights will work and after arriving at my destination, I would turn the engine off and upon my return the low beam driving headlights will not turn on. This has been a daily occurrence since the first incident. I read in one of the car magazines that the nhsta was in the process of approving a recall for the incident so I felt it was best to register my complaint in order to maintain the integrity of the data being collected by the agency.
