Tl the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. While driving various speeds, a strong odor of fuel was detected inside the vehicle and the check engine indicator illuminated. Even when there was fuel in the vehicle, the fuel gauge indicator showed that the vehicle was empty. In addition, the fuel indicator was illuminated. The contact stated that the failures occurred periodically. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 126,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was out of fuel but the fuel gauge indicated that the vehicle was not low of fuel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel gauge sending unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the part not being available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 7,168.

While traveling on trips 21/2 hours or more my low fuel light comes on and it appears to be out of gas, the indicator shows empty, but it is not. After reporting to the Chevrolet dealerships service manager he informed me that this was a technical issue already noted but not a recall issue yet. I was told it was a sensor. I fill this needs to be a recall on this issue, we have spoken to other Corvette owners and they are having the same problem with their vette. Does this warrant a recall?.

The gas gauge on my 2002 Corvette goes to empty while driving, the dic flashes " low fuel" & the check gauges light comes on. Just as suddenly, it will start working again several days later. I paid a local dealer ~$700 to replace the fuel tank sensor unit about a year ago. Since then the problem has recurred several times. Now the dealership is telling me to add a gas additive, only available from Chevrolet at $25 a treatment, to fix the problem. After adding a bottle of the gas treatment, my gas gauge went to empty & stayed there for 3 days. I understand NHTSA investigated a similar problem for the 2000 malibu (ea02028), but no recall was ordered. Surfing the web, this looks like a common problem on chevy autos & trucks. Have contacted chevy owner assistance who contacted the local dealer & parroted their "old" gasoline explanation for fouling the sensor. Why do you use a sensor that is not compatible with the fuel available to your customers? I only use fuel from brand name suppliers. This is clearly a defect in the gas sensor & needs to be treated as such by Chevrolet.

The fuel gauge on my 1999 Chevrolet Corvette has never worked properly and now the vehicle stops despite having several gallons of fuel in the tank. I have been stranded several times. Most recently in a very dangerous traffic situation. I believe this is now a true safety concern. There also appears to be several service bulletins out on this problems so it does not appear to be isolated.

I am in the process of having my forth steering column replaced on my 1999 Corvette, manual transmission. But the problem that I am reporting is that there were two times that this car ran out of gas with over 100 miles still showing on the distance to empty display. The last time I was having the steering column replaced I found a service bulletin , TSB # 02-06-04-010a pertaining to erratic fuel level readings and had the dealer correct the problem. Both times running out of fuel were at night time and the last time I was stranded on the top of a bridge with my daughter. We were almost hit 4 times by cars driving by because there was no place to safely pull over. I feel this should be a recall item because it leads you to a false sense of security in having fuel and when the car stops running, you loose the ability to steer the car safely.
1. When the fuel gauge reads just below half, sometimes the gauge will suddenly jump to empty. Note that I normally refill the tank (completely full) when the fuel gauge reads about one eighth of a tank remaining. 2. When this failure occurs, the vehicle can only be driven a few miles before running out of fuel. This has happened four times, all in the last four months. 3. I took it to the dealership that I purchased it from and they said they could not duplicate the problem and therefore they would do nothing about it. I called the gm service complaint number and they stated they would do nothing to assist me in getting this problem fixed.
Consumer complained that the vehcile fuel gauge was reading a quarter of tank of fuel when the vehicle shut off while driving. Dealer notified.
Fuel gauge drops to empty when fuel gauge reads 1/2 tank to 1/4 tank.
Fuel gauge inaccuracy. I have to depend on the miles left until tank has an empty gauge. When all fuel gauges get to about 1/4 tank (on the console and the hood), it will drop to empty setting off low fuel alarms. Gauge has been repaired 3 times and continues to have the problem.
After a complete fill-up of the gas tank and during a continuous drive of 50 miles or more the fuel gage recalibrates to empty. I have periodically stop and fill-up again and again out of the fear the vehicle might run out of gas.
Fuel gauge inaccuracy. When fuel gauge gets to about 1/4 tank, it will drop to empty setting off low fuel alarms. Gauge was repaired 9/24/02. Again on 11/29/02 it happened again. The same components (sending units) were replaced for the second time. I am a member of Corvetteforum. Com and see this problem has been on going since 1997 when the c-5 Corvette was introduced. It is still happening on the 2003 models with one owner having it occur at 800 miles on a 2003 model. Can't get Chevrolet to repair the problem so it won't come back. Chevrolet doesn't seem to have a fix for the problem after 7 years of building the c-5! I need some help in getting this issue resolved before my warranty expires in April 2003. Ts.
When driving for about an hour the alarm went off, and fuel gauge dropped to zero, as if the vehicle did not have gas in it. It happened intermittently. However, consumer consulted with Chrysler. They stated that it was not a safety defect, and that nothing would be done about it. However, the problem continued.
While driving 85 mph vehicle stalled. Vehicle has been serviced seven times due to stalling once the fuel gauge reached 3/8. The dealership was going to replace the fuel gauge again.
Consumer complained about a fuel gauge problem. Vehicle ran out of fuel, but the fuel gage indicated that the fuel tank was full. Fuel gauge had already been repaired 4 times. Currently, warranty expired. Dealer was charging $1300. 00 for repairs.
