This request involves a safety bulletin [#0400c6], dated 2/8/2006 relating to the electronic column lock (ecl) for approximately 96% of all 220,000+ c-5 generation Corvettes. 2004 was the last year of production for the c-5 generation. Total production in 2004 is estimated to have been about 35,000: out of this, 20,861 vehicles were covered by the above service bulletin, but as mine was assembled after VIN #45120862 until assembly began for the 2005 model year (c-6 generation), my VIN number was not included on page 2 of the bulletin. Prior to the steering column on my car locking on 6/28/2016 I had not been made aware that this perilous condition existed. Gm has indicated that it will not provide any funds to offset the cost of repairing this fault because it was not included on any service bulletin. I believe that service bulletin #04006c was intended for (or should apply to) the entire c-5 production -- unless there is some reasonable explanation as to why my vehicle has been excluded (such as a different ecl configuration was used, etc. ) in either event, I feel the company should honor my request for a full reimbursement for funds expended to replace the faulty ecl. I have written a letter to gm explaining the facts surrounding this request and have attached a copy of that letter for your review.

I recently discovered I have a service column lock on my car and have discovered its a recall problem. Nhtsa campagn number is 04v060000 and NHTSA action number is ea02031 and gm recall number is 04006. Momentumchevrolet located in san jose are denying this recall and don't want to fix it when it clearly is a recall. So my question is are they allowed to not fix it when its a recall?.

The Corvette shut down and displayed steering column lock. Based on prior gm Corvette recalls the recall to fix this problem (steering column lock) where they state "a crash could occur without warning" did not cover all Corvettes made during this time period. Gm service operations dcs851 effective through 2003. I did not get far with gm or the dealership on addressing the column lock issue. Since gm states it could result in a crash it surprised me that they don't have any interest in looking into whether the recall should be expanded to include other Corvettes during the time period they had over 126,000 affected. If it was necessary back than what is different now?.

I got in my vehicle, tried starting it and received a message on my dash screen that said, service column lock, thought I had a low battery, I removed the battery had it checked and was told that my battery was in good condition. After doing a bit of research I found out that I'm not the only one who has that problem, there is a large community of Corvette owners that have the same issue, we all ask the same question, why does gm not want to do a recall to correct the problem?.

Started the vehicle, in the display panel were the words, "steering column locked. " although the vehicle was running, the steering column was in fact locked. Restarted vehicle and the display read. . . "service column locked" however this was not the case. The steering wheel moved freely. The problem now is; the steering wheel will not lock when the ignition is turned off. My concern is. . . Can the steering wheel lock when the vehicle is in motion?.
I read in the newspaper today that the government is taking action against general motors for the ignition key problem. I experienced a similar problem with my Corvette. The engine will shut off while in gear and in motion, disabling power steering, brakes and the ability to move the car out of the way. A message "service steering column lock" appears. The car has been recalled for this problem and has been repaired several times. This has been done long after the warranty expired at no cost to me. Last year the problem occurred again in melbourne near the vette doctor Corvette repair shop. The dealer I bought the car from, fischer in titusville was not a Chevrolet dealer anymore. The car was repaired for about $800 and I contacted gm and was told to make a claim at the bob steele dealership in cocoa. The claim was rejected. Gm had continued to fix the problem and one time when I was in sarasota I was reimbursed for rental car expenses to get home, this was when the car was seven years old. I would like to get help with my expenses.
Low beam head lights are not working properly. Telescopic steering column is also recalled.
Filed this earlier. Not sure if received. You issued a recall #04v060000 for steering column lock problem. My VIN does not show up, however gm issued bulletin 04006c listing my VIN as having the problem. Gm will not honor it because you have not issued a recall on my VIN. I had the problem and had it repaired. Why is my VIN not listed??.
The electronic column lock system locked up as I was pulling out of garage. This was a problem under NHTSA recall 04v06000 for 1997-2004 models. Gm says my VIN number not involved. After being towed in the dealer made the repairs (removed lock replaced harness as indicated in the recall) and charged me almost $600 because my VIN not listed. How many more vehicles need this done but not recalled?.

July 19th 2014 I purchased a 2002 Chevrolet Corvette z06 from autonation Ford in littleton colorado. July 26th after returning home I parked the car in my garage. When I came out to move the car later that afternoon the steering column would not unlock. There was a message on the driver information center that said "service column lock". I immediately called autonation Chevrolet, since the vehicle is Chevrolet, to see if I could get some advice on how to resolve the issue. The service manager checked with a technician and I was told that the car would need service. Autonation Chevrolet referred me to autonation Buick GMC. The car was towed to autonation Buick GMC on the morning of July 27th 2014. After determining that their dealership was incapable of doing the repair autonation Buick GMC had the car towed to ed bozarth Chevrolet park meadows for repair. I researched the issue & found out that the "service column lock" issue was a recall issue in 2004 for Corvettes. The "service column lock issue also effects the fuel system and limits the car to 2 mph. First notification of the recall went out to owners on August 2nd 2004. I contacted gm on Aug. 1st 2014, 1 day short of the 10 year limit on recall work. Ed bozarth informed me that the repair would not be covered under the recall. I then contacted gm corporate to inquire about the recall. Gm corporate informed me that the recall work had been done on my Corvette in 2006. Since the same "service column lock" issue arose, the recall work failed. I asked gm corporate if they would cover the failed recall repair and I was told that they wouldn't. I would ask that since gm's recall work did not solve the "service column lock" issue that they cover the approximately $1500 repair that I had to pay for to get my car back in a drivable state.
