36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2018

Every time I take a long trip on the high way I get a transmission hot idle engine message. I idle for about 3 mins and I go off I see a lot of cars have a similar problem it must be a recall on the transmission. Also looking under the hood it's transmission fluid all on the top.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2018

My car is very dangerous! shuts off while on freeway! jerks forward while on brakes, caused an accident! cruise control does not work! electrical things flashing all the time! jerks and locks up all 4 wheels while driving! just today is shut down on the highway I struggled to get it home while the rpm's were up above 6! you name it, it has it. Think there should be a class action lawsuit against the makers of this vehicle!! class action lawsuit!!!!!.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2018

2012 Cruze lt. The third turbo was installed 2 days before extended warranty expired. It has 56668 miles now. I spent 4 hours putting glue putty in the cracks on the bottom intake manifold, to plenum junction corners of cylinders 2 and 4 because of the gm plastic shit, curing the low boost and lean mixture codes at idle, on easter. The first month I had the car the transmission would start in first skip second gear rev up then chirp the tires until it warmed up, and was fixed by a program change to a lesser version and now at the higher mileage it waits before it engages first at all. Another neat thing is to turn left at 5mph hard and feel the car do a jig to the right for an instant before continuing on with the turn. Lastly, the water pump was replaced along with a cracked water outlet but not the rotted recirculation overflow hose that broke at 4 am to my fishing hole in September. I can say that the 2017 Cruze must be better because the dumdums paid by the gm insurance company to change oil put more new oil in the motor without draining it first. No serious issues for a whole week I might be able to drive it by may it's been 5 months since then. Fyi the dealership who performed this fancy work is not in riverton either.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2018

Overheating. Loud noise in engine with loss of power that we determined to be the turbo. Cars breaks have been changed several times since purchase. Consistent warning lights on dash. The car has a very loud rattling sound when driving. It isn't as lound when sitting still at a redlight.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2018

The transmission will not hold the car it will roll backward when on an slight incline. While on my way to work I was slowing to cross a set of train tracks on a state highway in a small town and the transmission went completely out. Luckily I was able to get off the tracks. I am unsure of the name of the part that is broken. After talking to many many transmission specialists I have found that this happens very frequently. It seems the exact same thing that recall 14234 was issued for has also effected the Cruze. I did have to have the car towed home.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2017

As I was driving downhill from flagstaff to phoenix, arizona, I noticed my car wasn't accelerating the way it should. So, I was driving from a 7000 feet elevation to a 2000 feet elevation on steep hills not understanding why I didn't have full control over my car. It was scary to say the least. I brought my car to my chevy dealer 3 times before it finally did this and it finally gave out on me 2 days after the warranty expired. I went to the dealer 3 times to fix the issue until my transmission finally decided to give out on me. And now chevy is saying that they can't help me at all.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2017

While driving my car would not accelerate. The car will not move when changing gears. I took the car to the dealership because the check engine light and stabilik service light came on. The mechanic diagnosed the car and replaced a connector. Now, the car gears don't work. Misdiagnosis.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2017

I have a 2012 chevy Cruze lt, it doesn't even have 75k and I've only had it for 2 years. Driving through north little rock on the interstate my temperature gage shot from cool to red, my car dinged and posted a message a/c off due to high engine temps. My a/c was not on, as I was pulling over another message dinged and my engine power was reduced. I let the car idle as the next message instructed me to do, the temp would not go down. I turned the car off and called for a ride. Thankfully a nlr police officer sat with me until my boyfriend came as I was broke down on a bad side of town. That being said, we had the car towed to our ase independent mechanic to have it diagnosed as we thought it was just the thermostat sticking. Nope! blown head gasket! all because of a faulty water inlet. It is a known problem all across the forums. My mechanic had replaced numerous inlets on these cars and chevy had yet to do a recall. I contacted gm and filed a complaint. They are only replacing faulty water pumps, even though the water pump replacement parts include the water inlet. I was told I had to have it diagnosed by their dealership and after much back and forth finally got the diagnostic fee waived. I received a call today from the dealer informing me that I have a cracked head, warped gasket, and need to replace the engine. This is all due to a defect the manufacturer knows about. To too it off the power train warranty expired in March and my extended warranty expired 5k miles ago. Chevy wants me to pay out of pocket to replace all the damage that occurred from their defect. I am contacting the bbb, my attorney general, and any news outlet I can to get this issue brought to light. With a vehicle just over 5 years old and not even 100,000 miles on it to have to replace an engine is ludicrous.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2017

How many complaints have been made as the transmission can seem laggy an unresponsive at times in these vehicles. I purchased this vehicle at 42000 miles and at 70,000 miles the transmission has went out. While going down the road the transmission lags as in it doesn't have enough fluid or it is slamming into gear. Oh going down the road and switching gears you hear clunk and it jerks you back in your seat. The shifter indicator on the dash when put into drive will not appear all the time causing engine to misfire turning off traction control and stability causing the car to go into limp mode when starting the car from the stationary position. As of yesterday when shifting into gear the transmission went completely out. Car was taken to the dealership told it was out of warranty and would have to pay for the repairs. Car was actually produced in 2011 the year that chevy did have recall on the Chevrolet Cruzes for transmission issues. Car was bought November 2011 by previous owner.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2017

On August 19, 2017, I was on the road, drove passed south center mall when I felt that there was something wrong with my engine because it wasn't driving fast as usual. I pulled over to the side of the road, at inspirus credit union in tukwila to check the engine if it was okay when I smelled a faint scent of smoke. I drove back home to park it for fear of the engine exploding. Our family mechanic checked the engine and said that the fan is too loud as if something is causing it to be overworked. The engine fan has always been loud after my oil change on July 21, 2017. The engine light has not been turned off since the oil change and I know that there is something wrong with the vehicle. Also, I entered the VIN number online and it said that the recall on my car is incomplete. The dealer did not inform me about the recall nor mentioned anything about it when I bought it. They did not give me a written letter of the recall or even specified the recall being incomplete.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

Valve cover replacement - my car has had various codes going for months. These various codes all point to an emissions leak from the valve cover and now I have to replace this and it is one entire unit. I see many complaints about these springs and valve covers. If Chevrolet knew it was a problem, why wouldn't they recall these and fix this before making a single mom like me whose trying to go back to school, pay for this! I have to worry about pulling out in front someone and the car stalling and risking my and my children's lives all because chevy used a cheap, poorly designed part for this!.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2017

Takes na long time to take off. The car jerks a lot and the steering wheel gets stuck. .

48 Power Train problem

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2016

Car goes into a power down mode and stabilitrack light comes on. Has been in dealership for a week and stored no codes to diagnose. Can be driving down the highway at 60 and have loss of power. Will eventually cause accident. Car is still under powertrain warranty and cant be diagnosed.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2016

My 2012 chevy Cruze eco suddenly lost power and acceleration was very poor on 10/29/2016. Almost got hit trying to pull out from a stop sign because the power was no longer there to take off. After having an auto mechanic shop look at the car on 10/31/2016 we discovered that the oil line from the block or where the oil supply comes from for the turbo had been a plastic line that had melted and stopped oil from flowing to the turbo charger. This appears to be a poor design on gm's part to use plastic lines for something that will obviously be transferring hot oil. It seems to have caused the turbo to burn up and also created an exhaust leak . I am still waiting on a final price from the mechanic shop to find out how much damage was done. They have called me today 11/1/2016 and asked that I come in so they can show me more damage they have found as a result of this line melting. I have spoken to one of the owners at russell barnett family of dealerships and they were of no help stating that it is out of warranty. Really? it is a defective design flaw so why should I be having to pay for the repair? I would like some help with this issue please! I know I have 140000+/- miles on the car but it has been mostly highway miles and maintenance has always been done on the vehicle. I use this for my work and family vehicle so it is not driven hard or abused in anyway. I hate the fact of turning in a complaint that involves a dealer that I have recommended to so many people in the past but he was of no help at all and really showed no concern that there was an issue like this with a vehicle that he had sold.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2016

When I turned off the car, the dic showed the message "shift car into park. " the car was already in park. I tried to move the shifter up a little to be sure that it was completely in park, but it did not move. I had to start the car again to get it to turn off.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2016

Car just stopped in traffic and would not move it gave no warning that anything was wrong . It is a good thing I was not on a highway or I may not be here to tell you about this right now . It was in motion and just stopped and would not move . I could not even push it out of the middle of the road . The car behind me almost hit me . It was a very dangerous situation.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2016

My dad and I noticed that after my car had been driven for awhile that the fan began running really hard then I noticed about a month ago that my check engine light came on. I had a mechanic check it and he told me that it was code p0599 which is the thermostat control circuit. He sd that he believed there had been a recall at one time but for me to contact the dealer. I called rod hatfield here in lexington, ky and was told that there has been several cars of my year and model with these issues but there was not a recall issued for this and I would have to pay to get it fixed.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2016

Car suddenly shifted into 4th gear while going 70 mph. Squalled left front tire, and violently snatched steering wheel to the left. After shutting car off, the problem was gone. Shortly after, stabilitrack, and steering alarm appeared on message display. That cleared once shut-off. Three weeks later it occurred again. This time, on a trip, it did the exact same problems four times in a row. This is a very dangerous problem. If I had not had a firm grip on the wheel, I would have been hurt. I pity the fool who tailgates me! I took the car to the local dealer, and had the California flash "recall" done. Sense that the transmission has not shifted down while at high speeds, but now, the stabilitrack, and abs lights are staying on.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2015

When car is shifted into park, after shutting the car off the dic states "shift car into park". I push up on the gear shifter then the dic screen will go off and car seem to be into park.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2015

When the car first started messing up it was minor things I noticed: the in dash lighter not working, trunk latch doesn't work except by key, turn signals would glitch, can't use usb & audio cord at same time without it cutting off both completely. Then a couple weeks later I noticed my car had an unusual delay in increasing speed it was as if I had to push it to the floor just to get to 30 mph. Now the most recent event occurred on 9/17/15 which is what's prompting me to file this complaint (keep in mind I've only owned the vehicle for 8 months, purchased at 54k miles currently has 70. 9k) I drove to my house approx 30 min hwy from where I was I got into my car the next morning it didn't start at all. My bf checked the battery voltage & it was too dead to test, with a jumper box my car took approx10 min to even turn over, during the time of me inside the car attempting to start it my steering column locked up, lights in dash, radio system, headlights everything flashing on and off, key was stuck inside ignition, a foul smell & clicking noise is coming from engine, & couldn't lock doors once I turned car off immediately. This all occurred I'd say within a matter of 30 seconds after the car to turned over. Was so freaked out I didn't try to start again for 2-3 min and once I did it started right up. Within 72 hrs I have now seen the stabilitrac service alert, theft alert system needs serviced, along w/ air bags, & battery light flickers on & off. The clicking under my hood has continued, the rotten egg smell from engine comes & goes, dash lights go dim then go back to regular. Drove to o'reillys, they were able to tell me I now have a bad alternator as well. Recall 14801 was issued for reprogram engine control module, getting serviced this week at dealership but could this possibly cause all this?? especially considering I don't want to be responsible for repairs. Help.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2015

I received my chevy Cruze in November of 2014 used with aprox. 59k miles. April 7th driving down a highway at 55-60mph it suddenly started slowing down and would not accelerate. It would jerk and the engine would rev like if you were to be idle and in park and press the gas that's the sound it made. I did not notice the check engine come on or any other lights as I was trying to control my car. The speedometer and rpm indicator started acting erratically while doing so. The gauge would go up and down and the car was slowing down. The steering also became very soft. If I were to take my pinky finger and turn the wheel it would have moved that's how soft it was. All this happened multiple times during a 30 minute time period. After I slowed down and tried going over 30mph it would start to act up again. While this was happened I only had 66k miles. I got it towed to the dealer instead of taking my chances driving it there. It was sitting there a week before they even touched it and they claim they cant find anything wrong with it. I think chevy dealers claim they cant find anything when your car is still under warranty so they don't have to fix it.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

Since March 30, 2015, I have been experiencing issues with and have been trying to collect video evidence while in failure mode, of what I believe to be failures of the body computer(s) in this vehicle. The dashboard displays have been going on and off under a wide variety of driving situations, and while sitting at idle. They fault when the vehicle is simply driving down the highway. During these faults, the center information display for the hvac and entertainment will frequently turn off. This kills the radio. It at times kills the hvac systems and the turn signals (at least the noise for the turn signal indicators). At times, the center display above the steering column will go black and then display a message about the stabilitrak having failed and requiring it to be checked. Then it returns to normal mode. This is less frequent an occurrence. While driving on the highway under cruise control, the vehicle experienced one incident of unintended acceleration while the displays were in fault modes. This occurred on April 1, 2015 I believe. The driver's feet were on the floorboards. Not touching any pedals at all. The incident was stopped by the driver firmly pressing down on the brake pedal. When sufficient video evidence is accumulated on these failures the vehicle will be taken into the dealership. Lacking actual demonstrative evidence of the failures, the dealership will not be able to know what to repair or replace. The car has a history of dash display issues. The owner, a retired librarian/researcher from general motors advanced engineering staff and the r&d center, has worked on unintended acceleration legal cases for the company, and has supported litigation defense work on such issues while at the company. He is still gathering evidence but feels the need to document this incident as soon as possible for NHTSA should an accident occur to him due to this.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2015

Driver side windshield wiper becomes detached from wiper transmission when driving at highway speeds and simultaneously using windshield wipers. This poses significant danger because visibility is drastically reduced in rainy or snowy conditions. Car lurches forward when at a stop and transmission is in drive.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

I turned my car on one morning after I just had it in the shop to get the recalls fixed on it. Im seeing service stabilitrak and service traction and abs lights. I can no longer turn on or off my traction controle. My brakes are now grabbing really bad and im getting a really weird feel when I have my foot in the gas and turn my wheel. My car is not the same after the recalls were done.

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. The contact stated that while stationary, the engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that smoke came from under the hood of the vehicle directly after the vehicle was purchased. Chevrolet of broadsheadville, pennsylvania was made aware of the series of failures and diagnosed that the engine coolant thermostat was faulty. In addition, the transmission was replaced, under a manufacturers recall, but the failure recurred thereafter. The dealer stated that the contact would have to get used to the new transmission and the way the vehicle operated after the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty in regards to the mileage. The failure mileage was 78,000. The VIN was not available.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

2012 chevy Cruze with less than 25,000 miles on it. While driving, the traction control light will come on the dic and then service stabilitrack and the car would die down for a brief second and the radio will cut off. I made an appointment to a dealer and they said to drive with the traction control off until it gets in. Now it is doing the same thing with the traction control off. It is also doing this in reverse! this car is still under warranty with gm, but I'm afraid that I will have the same luck as others on here who are experiencing the same problems and nothing will get fixed. I'm also afraid that this will occur at an even greater rate and longer while driving causing an accident! something needs to be done to fix this problem in this model!.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2014

I hit the gas pedal hard to merge into traffic, the car did not go. I heard squealing tires, turns out it was my tires squealing. The turbo kicked in and catapulted my car into traffic. I was able to steer to the right, to avoid hitting anyone or getting hit, but I was forced up against construction barrels to avoid a collision.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2014

Engine fan keeps running and dealership insists it's norman but it wasn't happening from 2012 through 2014. Happens when I start the car and engine is cold, when sitting at light a light, with air on or off. I bought it brand new. I have the feeling they're waiting for something major to happen. I'm very concerned. I've had it checked 3 times. They say it's normal, but if it were doing this when I bought it, I definitely wouldn't have. Please help, I don't want to die!.

69 Power Train problem

While driving the car it continuously jerk forward, and it seems to be getting worse, the car is in motion , on a regular street. It's unknown why the car is doing this.

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2014

I am wondering when gm is gonna admit fault on these chevy Cruzes? my mechanic father owns one. He's had to replace valve cover gasket on his 3x. Mine at least 4-5x now. One bad oil change at a dealership almost cost me my engine at sunfair Chevrolet. They left 2 rings on the oil fuel filter causing it to leak all over my engine compartment which left me roadside the next day after driving it 2 hours the night before back in Aug 2016. So they gave us 10k miles over this incident in case my engine blew. It ran a bit hotter than it did before this incident. I also noticed a burning smell. Enclosed in the scanned documents you will find a letter from Chevrolet discussing a "engine light" coming on and engine coolant leak from the water pump reservoir leading to a drip of coolant onto the engine or onto the ground. Overtime, the loss of coolant will reduce cooling performance and eventually could lead to engine overheating. Well, that isn't the only issue. Look at my scanned documents to see how many times the valve cover has been the issue. Always the engine light coming on and pull codes. A mechanic friend, replaced the valve cover gasket for me before it became a recall to save me$. Engine light came on again in 1 year. The pcv valve was built into the valve cove creating a chronic problem. Leads to a loss of turbo power. The last time manifold had to be repaired, they lifted the valve cover to get to it; leaked oil one day after my husband just replaced it. We assumed that was the issue (again), so instead of taking it in, he replaced the seal before taking it in. Someone please help us. Last fix was Aug. 2023, one day after it was in the shop. Over $1200 in repairs I called gm, they told me to take it into the dealership. They focused on an oil leak from oil feed line. 4 days in still wasn't repaired. 1-20-14 I think was first incident of a valve cover issue. This is only 2 years after the car was "new". 137k miles on it now. Faithful with oil changes.
