I was driving on the highway through the mountains when I heard a pop. I was going down a steep hill and picking up speed and the service brake assist light came on. I tried to slow down the car but it was not slowing g down. I started pumping the brakes and saw I wasn't slowing down fast enough. Luckily there was a run away truck ramp so I swerved into a construction zone and onto the truck ramp. Once I was slowing down finally I put on the emergency brake and came to a screeching halt.

I press the check button and the warning and brake light go away. . This has been happening for last 5 miles. Going to get it checked first thing.

The rear center brake light stays lite even after taking foot completely off the brake pedal. I have to manually with my foot lift /push up the brake pedal lightly in order to have the brake light turn off. This happens very frequently when driving in heavy stop and go traffic on the highway.

While driving in stop and go traffic on a hwy of a speed of about 10-15 mph the brakes failed to work. There was a police office one car behind who witnessed the brake lights come on but the car did not stop. The driver attempted to avoid the car in front of them by trying to get into the shoulder. The car collided with a truck in front on it. The impact was with the front driver side and the rear passenger side of the truck. When the officer had the driver take the car out of park and to try to move it out of traffic the car began to roll back and was only stopped by the emergency brake. The officer then had the driver of the truck get out and try to drive the chevy Cruze out of traffic only to have that driver agree that the brakes were not working. During the repair process chevy had the car for over a month and had to replace the electronic brake system as the light was on that that is was failing. I am getting the reports of the replacement of the failed brake system this week from the repair shop.

I have had many issues with my brakes on my 2012 chevy Cruze. Sometimes it feels like I am hit from behind while stopped because the vehicle will randomly lurch forward an inch. Then, the brake lights began to randomly come on when the car was not running. This caused the battery to die numerous times. Eventually, the check engine light came on and the fault said the brake pedal position sensor was bad. I had that replaced. Now, the brake pedal does not come all the way up when it is lightly depressed (like when slowing down just a little or cancelling the cruise). This causes the brake lights to stay on. The only way to fix it is either hit the brakes hard or pull the pedal back up. I have been researching this and it appears that many people are having similar problems. TSB #pi0928/NHTSA id #10052020 discusses the "lurching". TSB #pic-5862/NHTSA id #10053904 doesn't say it's for Cruzes, but appears to be the same type of problem.
Three weeks ago, I started hearing a noise from the back left tire. Two days ago the esp and traction light went on as well as the brake fluid light. Everything just started hitting at the same time. I think the car is rigged to have everything go bad once the warranty period is up. Would like to know if this is covered since so many people are having problems with it. I can't afford to fix it but this is my only means of transportation.

At the end of December 2013 I purchased a 2014 chevy Cruze turbo diesel. Shortly after buying this vehicle I discovered there as a problem with the excessive torque and the braking system and hair trigger brake release. When releasing the brake this car would leap forward in an unsafe manner. This would happen when releasing the brake slightly. Releasing the brake a quarter of an inch or less was sufficient. I am not talking about my foot slipping off the brake pedal. The high rpm's and torque is not a good match with this particular automatic transmission. I am sure a standard transmission would be a better match. After my car jumped out into a major street and almost caused an accident I took my vehicle to my local dealership. The dealership examined my car and came up with the bellowing results: brakes feel normal for vehicle. 4 wheel disc and has electric vacuum pump. No repairs required at this time. Idle normal for present time, ecm will rise idle at certain time like cold start compensate for battery draw of glow plugs?. By the way the above incident occurred when the car was normal operating temperature. As a result I immediately traded this vehicle (1500 miles were on the odometer) for a different brand. It would be nice if your engineers could look into this matter to avoid future incidents with other chevy cruz owners. I am very concerned over the safety of this vehicle. Thanks.
The recall (gm recall # 12213) was performed on April 30, 2014. Since this date, the brakes come on no matter what speed you're going. All of the brake lights come on, even when foot is on the accelerator and the car will slowly start to slow down. It also causes the cruise control to disengage and the car to slow down. Safety notice #14417 coolant levels low I have taken my Cruze in to the dealership on the following dates: 8/14/2013, 4/30/2014, 5/6/2014, and 11/7/2014. Each time I was told the car was fine. I am adding a half a gallon of anti-freeze every 2-3 weeks. The service report from 4/30/2014 says they found a faulty pump leaking out coolant and it was replaced. Then why is coolant still leaking? last, but certainly not least, check engine light, code po240. The dealership keeps telling me it is the catalytic converter and it is not. There is no loss of power and no rotting egg smell. So instead of changing parts under warranty that come up with the code, they checked 2 items for the 4 time each (which have been fixed) and they checked the parts I changed myself but they never changed the O2 sensors which are the probable issue. They reset the code to see if the light came back on. It did. When I returned 6 days later, my warranty mileage was past by 677 miles and instead of calling it a continuation from the previous visit where the problem was diagnosed, they started a new work order and immediately wanted to change the catalytic converter. I had on-star at the time. Diagnostics of March 2014 showed no issues. After the work done in April 2014, the diagnostic came back with an issue with the exhaust system (code po240). I have heard what people have said about this dealership but I rarely listen to gossip. Apparently, it's all true. They just want to fix the expensive parts and will make them break down so you bring it back.
The brake lights would randomly come on and stay on when car was off and sitting still. I replaced the brake pedal position sensor and it seemed to stop. Now, the brake pedal doesn't come back up all of the way after applying the brakes. This keeps the brake light on and the brakes slightly applied. The only way to get it all the way up is to pull it from behind with your foot. This seems to be part of the brake pushrod and brake assist issue they are having, but haven't done a recall.
