This seems to be an ongoing problem for this model, you are probably aware of this the brakes don't work or the peddle pushes back and doesn't apply the brakes after pressing hard on the brake pedal the tc and abs lights come on and the brakes work. I have had the speed wheel sensors replaced on both fron sides and am experiencing the same safety issue no brakes we have spent over 2000. 00 to try and fix this and it doesnt seem to work the dealership and the mechanics keep looking for a fix. I think this model should be recalled or at least diagnosed by gm and fixed this is a serious problem. Thanks.
At approximately 10-30 mph the cars abs system engages on its own, both while stepping on the brake peddle and while just driving within that speed range. While trying to come to a stop, the abs system will engage and will not allow me to stop safely. In one instance I had to yank on the emergency brake and drop the car to a lower get just to avoid hitting the car in front of me. The system will keep engaging until the system times itself out. Then the abs and tc lights on the dashboard illuminate. I am approximate $1500. 00 into this issue at the dealership and still no solution. I have taken the car to my local chevy dealer and they can't seem to figure out the problem. They have replaced the cars FL hub assembly, multiple speed sensors, and the e. B. C. M. Through changing all thing parts still no success. The car is currently there now for further diagnosing.
10-14-11 problems with abs light, followed by tc light coming on, followed by the car slowing or jumping forward when brakes applied, difficulty stopping. Lost control of the car. Slowed to make a turn on a 2 way road, car traveled over double yellows, off road, into a pull out area before stopping. Luckily I was traveling at a very slow speed & there were no on coming vehicles. By stopping and turning off engine, lights would go out but come back on after about a mile. Car would stall or jump forward, braking difficult. New brakes installed, problems continued. 10-26-11 took car back & had both front wheel bearings & sensors replaced. Problems continue. 11-18-2011 car taken to chevy mech. & tested. They decided I needed the lf jumper harness & speed sensor replaced. 4 weeks ago: slight grinding sound from front wheels while turning. Check engine & tc lights came on, stalling & braking problems. Took car in for 100,000 service, drove 30 miles to my home. Car ran perfectly. Later the same day car ran fine for 2 miles, then abs & tc lights came on, began to lug down & stall, surge forward, stall. Car stalling continually. Towed car. Mechanic is unable to determine what is wrong. Tomorrow he will tow the car to the chevy dealer for evaluation. Question for Chevrolet and NHTSA~~my car is a 2005. I have researched this problem & realize that this is an on going problem with the Equinox, a safety problem to myself, my family & other chevy owners & motorists. Why haven't these vehicles been recalled, why has Chevrolet been allowed to continue selling the Equinox with this life threatening brake and t/c problem? scary. Not only am I out money for trying to fix this problem but now I find out that apparently there is no fix to the problem! I own a vehicle I no longer feel safe driving, I have no idea when the car will decide to shift, stall, brake or not brake.
I feel very strong vibrations and grinding in the brakes and the brakes become very stiff and push up against me when applying pressure. It will continue to do this until the abs and tc lights turn on then it runs ok. The mechanics found a speed sensor error when running diagnostics and replaced the left front hub bearing. A day or so later the same thing happened. They did the entire repair again just in case they had defective parts with the same result. They tried bleeding the lines and searching for bad wires, etc until they ran out of ideas. I spent the better part of a month with my 05 Equinox in the shop and significant funds on repairs and the issue is still not resolved. It has gotten so bad that I am now forced to get rid of the vehicle. My keys also began getting stuck in the ignition until the entire thing had to be disassembled and ignition switch system replaced. I have since been researching these problems, especially the abs issue and have learned that I am surprisingly one of many with the exact same issue. I don't understand how Chevrolet can get away with such a defect without issuing a recall.
Vehicle developed a shutter when stopping and abs light would come on. This caused the car to take longer to stop. Took the car to ase certified repair shops and they replaced the wheel hub and speed sensor. This did not fix the problem. What finally fixed it was replacing the jumper harness #15773652. I spent over $700 on this issue, because it was a safety problem. The mechanics did not even know to look for this problem, becaue there was not a bulliten issued by gm on this. The harness and install is only a $68 fix and I have had no more problems in over a year. I have read enough reports on the internet to know this is a common problem with the 2005 Equinox.
I have been having serious problems with the abs in my 2005 chevy Equinox. The abs light came on and I had an appointment to have it seen, but in the meantime, the warning light went out and the brakes started to buzz. The day before my appointment to have it fixed, the brakes failed while I was driving. I was standing on the pedal, and the car would not slow. A few seconds later, the abs warning light came on, and I was able to stop the car. The mechanic replaced both front speed sensors (that's what the codes said was wrong). I took it home, and that night, the brakes very briefly buzzed again. The next day, they buzzed again. The 3rd day, the lights came back on but only after I lost my brakes again for a brief moment. The mechanic traced the entire wiring system looking for any problem and found nothing. He finally replaced the right front hub assembly on the second round of maintenance because that was what the code was telling him that time. I picked up the car and when I went out for lunch (about 3 hours later), the brakes buzzed again (no warning light came on this time). That was yesterday. I now have it at the chevy dealer for further diagnosis. So far, they've gotten another code saying that the same hub assembly that was replaced this week is the problem. Somehow, I don't think that's the issue. I'm waiting to hear what else had to be fixed and whether it will really ameliorate the problem I'm having.
Car doesn't start on first attempt. It tries, then even after I release the key it continues to start, like its stuck, I have to pump the gas to get it to start, and it acts flooded. Abs and traction control lights on. When I press on the brakes it feels stuck at the top and grinds and pulsates even though my brakes are good. Ive had my speed sensors replaced twice , problem still ongoing. I have to push with all my weight for the brakes to "break through" what ever its stuck on and work, then they lock up. That's when the abs/traction control lights come on, then I know the abs is not trying to work and my brakes will stop me. Ive almost crashed into things too many times.
