The abs and traction control light came on and the vehicle sometimes doesn’t want to stop. The abs kicks in and it takes a while for it to stop. It’s been twice where the vehicle ends up stopping in the middle of the intersection. Luckily no one was in front of us or coming the other direction.
Brake won't releases after puting on brake pedal key falls out of ignition while drive ing steering seems like going to fall apart when turnings cat hardly put gas in it code 0445 large evap leak detector.
Brakes were pulsating and not stopping abs and traction control lights come on.
Abs kicks on randomly, driving or braking and at various speeds. I have had one accident because of this issue, have since pulled the fuse and spent over $1,000 at the shop to fix this issue with no results. This has been an issue since December of 2017 until present.
100000k miles and the transmission locks up huge problems with wheel bearings and problems with abs system.
My car cranks without turning the ignition over and I replace the battery because my car kept quitting but it still has trouble cranking. My heater core also went out after only having it for a few mths.
I bought this car used in 2026 I have not had it a year yet and after the first month it has been in for repairs, the wheels sounds like they are coming off at times, it sounds like something is dragging underneath, brakes scrubs even with my placing new one on, sometime it feel like transmission is going out, it pulls hard at time. Even tho this car is old can I still take it in for recall problems. I was not told about any recalls when I bought this car, I paid $3500 and I feel I have almost paid this much in repairs, all of this happens when car is in motion. On highway, streets and it pops sometime when making turns.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while at a stop with the brake pedal depressed. The brake pedal depressed in excess independently as the engine revved and the vehicle independently accelerated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 177,000. Oo.
My 2005 Equinox, I have only 80k miles on it,- key will not start ignition normal. Gets stuck and have to shake key forward for about 20+ minutes before it finally turns on. And when the car is on and running at any speed, the key will just come out of ignition. Map lights leak water when it rains. Car smells like mold. Fuel gage always says empty and I get less than 16 mpg. Got in a car accident Apr 2014, seat belt did not lock when I was rear-ended, my face almost hit the radio (intial reason for my call to gm-chevy line posted on their website today, looking for an answer as to why my ignition won't work properly and found out about faulty ignitions on my car) gm stated, after giving them my VIN that my car is not included in the recall!!! what's really going on??!! after being accused of "blaming gm for my car problems", I asked for a supervisor and was hung up on. No joke. She also stated nhtsb was at fault. I'm sure they record all the calls. I ended up just calling the dealership and they scheduled my car for diagnostics for tue, 9/2/14. But they also told me that my vehicle is not included in the recall. Well. . . . . I'll pull my key out to show them how easily the key just comes out at any position, and then when the tech tries to start my car and can't, and is stuck in their garage, will my car be added then gm?? ?!!! I have so many issues I could go on and I see that so many others have reported numerous times and this is what is done to us? now I'm angry and afraid.
While driving at various speeds, we experience severe resistance in the brake pedal, pedal would pulsate and then braking system would make a noise, but you could not stop unless you stood on the pedal with all you body weight. Then the abs and traction control light would illuminate stating that the systems were disengaged and the braking system would work normally. Unfortunately, every time you start the car you experience the same thing, until the system disengages you cannot stop quickly. This happens at any speed. The dealership seems to have no solution to this problem.
Sometime last summer started noticing issues with brakes. Replaced all parts involved with the entire brake system to no avail. Took it to two different mechanics, who also replaced the same parts thinking that maybe we had bought faulty parts. Again, the problem remained. The vehicle's brake system seems to grind when trying to brake. Not to mention, it feels as though the pedal itself pushes back against your foot. When it does this; there are no actual brakes. The vehicle continues to move forward until you pump the brakes more than a few times to get them to stop the vehicle. This is very scary! I have almost ran into many vehicles while attempting to stop. This problem should be addressed immediately as I am not the only one having this issue based on the hundreds of complaints I have read! I can no longer afford to keep putting money into this vehicle! something needs to be done!!! the date of occurrence is a guess, but I do know it began last summer.
This is my second time reporting a complaint about our 2005 Equinox. The abs and tc, traction control lights are coming on and our anti lock brake system is engaging in and out, and then disingaging totally leaving us with no anti lock brakes. We had new brakes and rotors put on in oct of 2013, plus a battery. My husband has a PA. State inspection mechanics license. So he went to the garage to check the brakes along with another state inspection mechanic. They took the wheels off and the front hubs for the abs are bad this vehicle only has 34,790 miles on it to date. Plus this will be the 5th set of front brakes and rotors that have to be replaced again. . And now, the abs system, or hubs. What ever is found when it gets taken apart. " nice " here we go again !!!.
Received vehicle upon my mothers passing. Had 45k on it, garaged and only in town driving. In just over year I have had to replace rear rocker joint, ac unit, front right speaker, front brakes and starter. Now, there is a water noise under hood and truck is starting to rock when at stop light. It is also trying to run hot but no lights, leaks or issue can be found. The back spoiler was loose http before then and leaks in the back. Lift gate hard to open and moulding around front windshield is coming loose. I have 65k on this truck. There is no way this truck should have this many problems. I feel unsafe in this lightly used auto.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the brakes began grinding and pulsating when applied. The abs and traction control warning lamps illuminated simultaneously. The vehicle was not taken for inspection. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 167,000.
I was driving at approx 35 mph approaching a curve in the road. I applied the brakes, the car fishtailed and slid sideways off the road, down an embankment. The car then turned heading in the opposite direction, I hit a mailbox, then a phone pole. The entire time my foot was on the brake but the car was not slowing and continued to accelerate. The car then went back up the embankement, hit another mailbox and continued down the road for a very long distance without slowing while my foot was on the brake. Steering was not responding, the car kept accelerating. I put it in neutral, no help, then finally slammed it in park and put the emergency brake on to stop the car.
Overall problem: the abs system kept kicking in at low speed stops and the abs/tc light came on it started out as an occasional abs sensation in the brake pedal, which got worse over a matter of a couple weeks. The times when this occurred, the braking was gentle` and gradual, so it was completely inappropriate for the abs to come on and my braking distance was increased. After the first week the abs/tc light came on and the problem occurred more frequently (example: at least twice on my 15 minute commute). After confirming that it was not a problem with my brakes, the dealer decided it was my wheel hub and I paid for that (expensive) replacement. The problem went away for one day, and then returned even more severely and I was concerned about being able to stop safely. After doing some research on Chevroletforum online for others with this issue, we found that it was likely the "pigtail wire harness". This was confirmed by the dealer and replaced on that second trip. . Read more...
Tried to come to a stop approaching an intersection, abs pulsated at brake pedal. Brakes almost let my coast into the car ahead of me. Symptoms continue to this day after many repairs. Pulled abs fuse to disable abs to keep it from interfering with braking action.
Water seeped in under sun roof, down front driver side roof pillar and then into car behind dashboard then dripped down into computer control device (where obdii unit hooks up) where it shorted out entire electrical system. I was going down a hill into town where speed is 45 mph and my sister in law was in car and we were heading to airport however engine just shut down. Brakes and steering became really much more difficult to control. We coasted to a stop and after 15 mins car started up but with significantly diminished power so I drove into a service station where car stayed for next 2-days. I discovered what shut car down when I started squirting water onto roof at a car wash and water started dripping down onto carpet flooring but first it seeped into computer control unit. I waited out drying of unit and then drove home and applied a lot caulk to sunoof where glass meet metal/rubber. Car exterior roof now looks terrible as caulk dried sort of a brown crud color (car is white) but no more (knock on wood) engine stalling when it rains or I go through a car wash. Makes me very nervous when on road and in rain.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 15 mph while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to stop and accelerated. As a result, the contact crashed into a side walk damaging the tire, the radiator and the front end and of the vehicle. The contact did not sustained injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic lot. The failure recurred twice. Vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, she attempted to apply the brakes, but the brake pedal would not depress. The vehicle coasted to a stop. The contact stated that she then removed some of the anti lock braking fuses herself and the failure had not recurred. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 126,000.
It been in chevy dealer for repair hub replace wind in dealer refund cost.
Was driving down the road and the engine stalled all the lights came on the dash. Have been having major problems with the abs brakes when I pressed on them I had no brakes had to go off side of the road to stop so I wouldn't hit stopped vehicles. Then the engine does not want to start back up after it stalls and the traction control light comes on. I've owned the car for 3 years and have had nothing but problems with it. I thought I bought a lemon but when I read other people and their problems with these cars it sounds like their all lemons!!.
Abs and traction control light came on. Feels like brakes are sticking or not responding. I'll be pressing the gas pedal and as soon as I take my foot off it immediately slows down. When I got out, it smelled like burned rubber and smoke was coming from the brake area. I've been to the dealership twice to get it repaired and nothing has worked so far. I got new brakes and rotors put on 3 months ago and they're already worn out. I've only put on about 1200 miles on them.
Exhaust gas recirculation tube rusted and came apart.
I to own a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox which I purchased brand new, with only 34,400 miles on it to date. Our car is very well taken care of and it looks as good as the day we took it off the car lot. I have the same problem with my car,you could remove the key without turning the ignition off and the motor is still running ,also around the ignition there is metal shavings . I now have worn out the second key and the ignition does not lock and when it does you cannot open it to start. So, I made a mark on the ignition where to turn the key off so I can start it the next time. The vehicle's both remotes do not work. I paid $65. 00 for a new one at the dealership and now it does not work all the time. I lock the doors then, they won't open we have to use the key and hurry up to start the vehicle before the alarm goes off. I to had to replace the battery, but I chalk that up to age, also 4 sets of front brakes and rotors, 4 sets of tires and my vehicle only has 34,400 miles on it. Being a PA. State inspection mechanie I concurr there is a problem with the ingnition switch and in my opinion a possible defect in the front braking system. I hope gm looks into the problem .
When I first hit the brakes, the car did not brake. There was a grinding sound for about 4 seconds and then the brakes grabbed hard and the vehicle stopped. Then the lights came on stating the anti lock brakes and traction control do not work. The next time I started the car, the lights for the anti lock brakes and traction control were not on. I was driving 50 mph. Traffic stopped fast. I slammed on my brakes, but the brakes did not work. There was the grinding sound as before, and then I crashed into the car in front of me.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds, the abs and traction control warning lights would illuminate followed by a sever resistance in the brake pedal. The contact also noticed a squeaking sound coming from the front of the vehicle during the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where all four brakes were replaced. The current mileage wa 87,000 and the failure mileage was 3,000.
I have a 2005 chevy Equinox and I am problems with the antilock brake system. Chevy says it not something that can go bad. I have read alot of reports that many people is having this same issue. Also that traction control system also disables itself when this occurs.
2005 Equinox with 73,200 miles. Purchased used/gm certified 11/2008 in illinois. When applying brakes, the brake pedal shimmied and would not budge as if it was stuck. Had to pump it multiple times and use emergency brake to halt vehicle. After the brake pedal became "unstuck" the abs and traction control lights came on. I parked the vehicle and had it towed to a dealer.
I have a 2005 chevy Equinox LS. I purchased the vehicle January 2009 seemed to be driving pretty good. I took it out of town and as I began to stop at the stop light the steering felt loose and the wheels moved side to side on its own. I thought it strange but kept on driving. Started up the on ramp and the steering wheel had a loose like play in it. Didn't think anything of it. Started to excel onto the highway and as I began to reach 60 miles per hr the front end started moving loosely left to right. Then I started reaching 65 miles per hr and the front bounced and wobbled as if it were going to drop. I had to go 75 miles per hr before the jiggling of the front end of the van stopped. The van drove great at 60 or less. Whenever putting on the brakes there would be a crunching noise as if a pole was in the way keeping the foot brake from pushing down to the floor. I would have to lightly lift my foot then push it down quickly to stop the van safely. This is very dangerous and should have been taken care of before selling the vehicle.
Violent shaking during braking. Hubs replaced and rotors turned. Told by mechanic that this happens to every Equinox he has seen.
When applying brakes cars shakes.
The brake pedal in my 2005 Equinox went to the floor. I used my foot to bring it back up and then had the hydraulics of the brake pedal. Examination by my car x repair service showed and e clip is used to hold the medal bake rod to the plunger had come out causing it sometimes to be disconnected from the other part. This could have been deadly as you never knew when you would have brakes.
Problem with sway bar links, replaced twice. Still problem with front end as chewed up tires. . . Replaced struts, steering shaft, brakes front& back. Front end and brake problems. . . Cost me over $3500 to this point, plus head& rear seal gaskets. . .
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. When the contact depressed the brake pedal, she noticed excessive vibration and a humming noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The dealer replaced the rear bearings and shaved the rotors. One year later, the failure recurred and she took the vehicle back to the dealer. They replaced the struts, sway bar, and the two front tires at the cost of over $1,000. The technician stated that the sway bar would have to be replaced because it was made of plastic. The contact is in the process of having the vehicle realigned. The failure mileage was 35,000 and current mileage was 42,000.
