I have noticed a strong gas smell after driving my car. I am now scared to drive it & don't have the money for an expensive repair.
Letter from senator reed on behalf of constituent re 2007 Equinox recalls and outstanding reimbursement issues. The consumer was informed recall 12v459000, did not apply to his vehicle identification number, and he would not be reimbursed for recall# 07v344000, even though he supplied documentation, he paid for the repairs.
About a month ago we started smelling gas both inside and outside the vehicle. After a few weeks the vehicle was starting to have trouble starting where it would sound like the car was "flooded" and wouldn't turn over right away. I took the vehicle to the Chevrolet dealership today and they diagnosed the problem as a cracked fuel module system that was leaking fuel. I have read thousands upon thousands of complaints regarding this part on this particular Equinox and there is even a recall on the part but in only 4 states which isn't fair to rest of the owners that are suffering the same problem.
Strong smell of gas and is leaking. Electrical lights are coming on on dash board traction controll, abs and engin lights. . .
Since November 12, 2011 there has been a strong odor of gasoline fumes coming from the rear of the car. The fumes are noticeably stronger shortly after car has been driven. The fumes are so strong I no longer park in the driveway next to my home but rather on the street for fear of ignition of gasoline fumes. I have counted over 200 other complaints for the same problem, on the same model year on various other automotive help sites. I feel this is a very serious defect putting human life's in jeopardy. General motors corporation needs to address and rectify this problem before someone is hurt or killed. May I suggest an immediate manufacturer recall of all vehicles in concern?.
For the past 3 weeks I have been smelling gas while driving and stationary, first the smell was very faint but as the weeks have passed by the gas smell is so strong that I am getting frequent headaches. My problem is the same as all the rest of them, on the passenger rear side. I am really concerned because I use my Equinox to drive my daughter to and from school everyday. If it is affecting me as an adult, I can't imagine what it is doing to her, it is very alarming to me that I have read a ton of complaints on line for the same make and model vehicle, and there has not been a recall. Please issue a mandatory recall to fix whatever this issue is!.
Strong smell of gas on right rear and leaking gas cant find out where the problem is. I am afraid to drive this car for this reason. There are over 200 complaints on this problem. There needs to be a recall on this vehicle before someone gets blown up and dies!!!!!!!!!!!.
Have had my 2007 Equinox since 2009 with a few problems. Stabilitrac light coming on. . . . A/c not turning on. . . . Window washer fluid not spraying. But today, out of nowhere, a gas smell. No visible leak, just the smell. After seaching on line and seeing numerous complaints about the same problem, I wonder, do I try and find out the problem through a mechanic and probably spend a fortune or wait to see if a gm realizes there is a problem and wait for a recall.
07 chevy Equinox lt- 60000 miles on it. This vehicle is only drove to work and back. We got to smelling gas really bad Thursday 09/29 when I would enter the vehicle. Put gas in on Friday 9/30 and while car was running you could see the gas leaking. I called the dealership they could not tell me if the problem would be covered under warrenty. But they could tell me it would be $200. 00 just for them to look at it, and if it wasnt covered under warranty then $1000-1500 to fix the problem. We called the dealership back and told them where it was leaking. . . The parts dept isnt sure what to order. Im not spending that amount on an I think this will fix it. I am also being told you can only order this part through Chevrolet.
Husband got home and parked in driveway. I got home about a hour later and parked behind him. When I got out of my car I could smell gas. It was coming from the right passanger side of his car. There was no gas on the ground. I called gm to see if this is covered under my warranty and they did not know. I was told by a someone at gm that several of these cars were recalled for this but mine was not one of them. I took my car to the local chevy dealer and they told me it could be $1000+. I called gm and filed a complaint. They said they would call the dealership and call me back. I have not yet heard from them. My husband had to rent a car in the meantime. This sounds like a safty issue to me. Gm should repair this problem.
Vehicle smells like gasoline even after vehicle sits overnight. Smell gets worse after driven. Nothing is visibly leaking from vehicle. I googled "gas smell 07 Equinox" and am amazed that this is a problem with numerous 07 Equinox owners. Of course my vehicle is now 16 days out of warranty, so any repairs from gm's faulty product will now be at my expense. Ridiculous that it is happening with so many vehicles, all under 100k miles and gm has yet to recall and correct their crappy product. My guess is they are waiting for someone's vehicle to catch fire and injure or kill someone before they try to do anything about it. Next time, I will buy Honda again. Almost 200k miles on my 99 civic and never had any issues with it.
My wifes car started to smell like gasoline on 9/15/11 on the outside. At first we thought it was maybe a little gasoline that had spilled. Later that night she parked the car inside the garage and later went back to get something out of the garage and it smelled very strongly of gasoline. She called me and we decided to take the car outside of the garage. I personally checked the outside of the car everywhere for a possible leak as well as the garage floor for any gas leak, but found nothing. We started to worry and immediately went online and typed in "my 2007 chevy Equinox smells like gas" and hundreds of complaints came up for that same year/make/model in regards to the fuel system with the exact symptoms. Today 9/16/11 my wife experienced the other symptom most people were talking about online which is the car struggles to turn on. We are very scared and believe something should be done because this is a huge safety issue. Living in florida where it gets very hot when it comes to gasoline it is not something to joke about. My wife also travels with my 2 1/2 year old and it scares me that something worse might happen. Hopefully this can get resolved ASAP. In the meantime she will be driving my car until we can resolve the issue.
Raw gasoline leaks onto the ground from about 12" forward of the right rear tire and 14" toward the center of the vehicle.
I started smelling gas while driving and even when it was parked. When I tried to accelerate or drive uphill it would sputter and choke like it wasn't getting enough gas.
On Thursday 14 June 2011 I thought I had smell gas in my truck. Had my husband to lay down an look under the truck and he said it was wet. The fumes of gas is getting stronger by the day. I really getting afraid to drive my truck that bi really enjoy driving. It seem that this has happen to other. Is there not been a recall on this problem because for that just to happen all of a sudden is strange and dangerous I think. What can you tell me that might help.
2007 Equinox with 69,000 miles had a gas smell outside as well as in the cabin. Took it right to the dealer on a Friday afternoon. The service supervisor put it on the lift and said I had a gas leak and could not drive the vehicle. Indicated it was most likely the fuel pressure modulator. Estimated the cost of repair would be about $650 plus labor. I called back that Monday evening to inquire if the leak had been pinpointed. Good news!!! the part would take a couple of days to get in but it would be covered under the warranty!!! saved me between $1200 - $1500. Chevy dealer in enterprise, al is the greatest! don't know why so many others with the same type problem are turned away by the dealer.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact smelled gasoline and noticed that there was a gasoline leak. The dealer was contacted, but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact did not inform the manufacturer of the failure. The current and failure mileages were approximately 58,000.
2007 chevy Equinox gas leak. Noticed increased smell of gas. Previous to this I had a longer then normal starting problem, winds out then starts. I was told to leave the key in start position to build up pressure in the gas lines. I brought it to the dealer and they did not want to warranty the defect. I asked for a quote and said it was upward of $1,500. This is after having to pay $93 dollars for telling me I had a gas leak I know I already had. To my own troubleshooting I found that the fitting that attaches the high pressure gas line to the gas pump manifold appears to be a plastic to plastic compression fitting. It is highly likely that after constant vibration these two plastic parts can create a gap for gas to escape in large quantity. Thus the constant gas smell. With the key in the start position noticeable gas can be seen dispensing onto the floor. A manufacture defect in my eyes. I have no choice but to fix it myself with gm parts at a high cost of & 600. 00 dollars, a gas pump assembly not otherwise found elsewhere. With the anticipation of the new part having the same defect.
I have a problem with my 2007 checv Equinox smelling like gas inside and outside on the passenger side of the vehicle, no noticeable damage to the vehicle, I took it in for a recall on the airbag sensors and the dealer noted the smell of gas, I have no warranty and cannot afford to take it to a dealer sounds like this is a defect that should be covered by GMC. Is gm going to wait untill someones Equinox goes up in flames for them to admit it is a defect. And they called me to trade it in for another one, not.
