This model and year related to Chevrolet NHTSA campaign # 12v459000. Gasoline leak, as listed on gm recall, had occurred in July of this year/2012 at 63997 odometer miles. Gasoline was leaking on top of fuel tank and not driven , for safety precautions, until dealer could look at and repair. Vehicle owner had to pay for repair. Dealer, at that time, was not aware of any other problem with this defective module. This vehicle is not in a warm weather state as listed on recall, but vehicle did have a major fuel leak and module had to be replaced. Owner is original purchaser of this vehicle.
My 07 chevy Equinox is leaking from the gas tank on the rear passenger side of the car. A very strong odor is coming into the car I called the local Chevrolet dealer and they told me that this was a on going problem with this year Equinox but it hasn't been re called . My car is out of warranty so I have to pay out of pocket for this. My car has 83k miles on it. The tank to replace is $674 plus labor but I found the tank cheaper but still paying 600 to have it fixed. I looked up this problem and there's a ton of cars with the same problem this is so dangerous to have. I'm so glad that we noticed this problem today because we are going on vacation in two days and I don't know what would have happen driving this car 800 miles. There has to be something chevy can do for everybody that owns this car . I'm going to contact the media of this problem if it's not recalled.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle emitted a strong odor of fuel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that a fuel line coming from the fuel pump to the engine was cracked. As a result, fuel would leak and rest near the reservoir next to the tank. This failure created a fire hazard. The contact also stated that the dealer was unable to locate the leak in the same way the mechanic was able to. The failure and current mileages were 84,000. The consumer was informed there was a leak coming from the filler neck and the gas tank would need to be replaced. Updated 04/09/12.
During the last month I began to smell gasoline inside my vehichle. The more you drive it the smell gets worse. I can not park it in the garage the gasoline smell then lingers throughout the house. I can not find any visible leaks. I googled this problem on line and there are numerous complaints about the same problem. The smell is coming from the rear passenger side and when I laid on the ground to look at the tank, you can see it is leaking some where by the filler neck or other connections. This is very dangerous and can result in the vehicle catching on fire if someone flicks a cigarette or there is a rear end or passenger side collision.
Gas leaking from fuel tank somewhere on the top of tank or hoses of fuel system. Which can cause auto to catch on fire should someone toss a cigerette out the window on highway. Checked online it usually happens after warranty is up. Was at dealer getting oil change when notified.
There is a leak in my fuel tank on the 2007 Equinox and its a serious hazard, my son rides in the back seat and the fuel tank is directly under the rear passenger seat, you can smell the gas, so a small fender bender or someone tossing a cigarette out the window and the car will explode, what is being done about this death trap on wheels, not the first major safety hazard on this car, that was the steering motor that locked up on me while I was driving on the highway. Gm needs to fix this. Asap.
My mother enlaw and wife have a 2007 Equinox with 59 thousand miles on it smelt gas fumes for a while now it is pouring gas from top of gas tank can not drive she is 75 years old have to take her every where in boried car . Can not aford to have it fixed.
2007 Chevrolet Equinox lt, noticed raw gas smell coming from right rear of vehicle. Took to repair shop and was advised that the plastic gas tank had a crack in it where the neck goes into the tank. Upon checking online I see other people having same problem. Contacted Chevrolet service and got no where. Had repair shop replace tank with new tank. With numerous complaints seen on same problem it seems like there is a problem with tank. Also is a safety risk with gas leaking out of side of tank for possible fire.
Aprox 2 weeks ago I started smelling gas coming from the back passenger side of the vehicle. Smell has progressively gotten worse over the last 2 weeks. Took the vehicle to a chevy dealership on 6/27/2011 and they have stated that they would need to drop the fuel tank to determine the exact issue which is one of 3. One being the circle ring on top of the tank, a fuel module, or a crack in the gas tank. They examined the entire vehicle and there is nothing that would have caused any of these items to go wrong. I have googled and seen where there are several consumers that have had the same issues with their 2007 Equinox's. I asked the dealership if there is a big risk in driving the vehicle like it is. Their answer was that anytime gas fumes are present it presents risks. Every night when parking the vehicle in the garage, the next morning the gas fumes are tremondously concentrated (this is with all the garage windows open to vent the garage). As of 6/27/2011, there has been no repairs done on the vehicle. I feel with the several compliants that I have seen for this issue, this this should a safety recall in which chevy needs to correct.
I discovered a smell of fuel from my vehicle. Had vehicle inspected on 3/25/10 and found out that the fuel tank is leaking due to faulty manufacturing. The vehicle is a 2007 chevy Equinox lt. It is just beyond warranty and no extended warranty was purchased. The fuel leak is beneath the rear passenger seat. There is no wear and tear to this area of the vehicle. There is no damage to this area of the vehicle. This vehicle has not been in a collision. The leak is due to poor manufacturing of this part. There has not been any injury or fire yet. But the potential exists.
