The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving 45 mph, the vehicle started making abnormal sounds and then stalled. The warning message “low engine pressure” was displayed. The contact’s daughter was able to veer to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the contact’s residence. The contact’s husband, a Ford mechanic diagnosed that the pcm valve had frozen, built up pressure in the engine, and blew out the pressure which ruptured the rear main seal. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact’s husband that it was a known failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

The transmission control module (tcm) has failed. When the vehicle is started the check engine light comes on. When the vehicle is put into either "r" or "d" the vehicle lurches, and the "r" or "d" flashes. When this occurs the vehicle is not operable. Pressing the accelerator - the vehicle does not move forward. This condition will also occur during operation of the vehicle without warning. Regardless of travel speed at the time, the vehicle will slam into a low gear. This creates a very serious safety risk. On a wet, snowy, or icy road it would surely cause the operator to loose control and cause an accident. My particular vehicle has less than 38,000 miles. For the transmission control module (tcm) to fail on a vehicle with this few miles is totally unacceptable. For it not to be warrantied is also not acceptable, and a calculated decision on the part of the manufacturer to avoid liability for an issue it is aware of that regards the safe operation of its vehicles. Upon research, there are several other complaints of this same nature on-line. A recall should be issued.
There are 2 problems which are interrelated 1) when stopped at a stop light the vehicle does not repond when the gas is applied to move forward when the light turns green. Then, the vehicle suddenly lurches into gear. 2) the "d" for drive on the dashboard flashes indicating an error code has been written to the transmission control module. When I took my vehicle in for repair because this was happening the dealership told me that there was no error code on the transmission control module so they do not have a way to diagnois what is happening and that this is a known problem and were advised by the manufacturer to not make any repairs because that may not solve the problem. The dealership indicated the manufacturer felt this may be due to a software problem and may need to complete a software update at some future point in time. However, I've seen posts from other chevy Equinox owners with models dating back to 2014 with this same hesitancy and jerking issue.

The vehicle transmission gets stuck and doesn't always shift from first to second gear. This results in being unable to accelerate past 20-30 mph upon takeoff which is scary and dangerous on the highway. My mechanic shop has informed me that the automatic transmission control module (tcm) needs replacing. On 10/14/2016 there was a recall notice for the tcm on several vehicles including the 2010-2013 Chevrolet Equinox. Gm's recall numbers for this are 50490 and 50491.

Vehicle stalls at random times, while in motion at 65 mph on the highway or at a stop sign it just stalls. Will start back up but only to stall again. Very dangerous! multiple issues on the internet on this year Equinox and some claim there is a recall; "# TSB #05539 -- product emission recall to replace the powertrain/engine control module (pcm/ecm). The powertrain/engine control module (pcm/ecm) may have been manufactured with damaged internal ic chips, which may affect the fuel pump control and egr out (NHTSA id #10017551, April 01 2005)".

I replaced the egr valve sensor and hose still getting a code 1404. I don't understand what the main problem could be unless it's the pcm causing problems and it has been changed as well.

2011 Chevrolet Equinox. Consumer writes in regards to defective vehicle operation and safety
the consumer stated the vehicle was returned to the dealer three times, due to it running rough, loss of power, an overwhelming smell of gasoline, a sticky accelerator pedal and the check engine light illuminating. The dealer replaced the high pressure fuel pump, fuel rail pressure sensor and an attempted repair of the pcm and the reprogramming of the tac. The dealer has been unable to resolve the defects.

Vehicle will not pass state required emission, due to readiness error code. For reasons unknown the evap and egr system code will not reset (not ready code). We were told by several mechanics to drive the vehicle for several hundred miles. After 800 miles and several failed test later the system still will not reset. We called gm and was told to take the car to a dealer. Against our better judgement we had no other options available and finally took it to our local gm dealer and was told the service tech downloaded software to address a p0171 code, which cost us over $300 and to drive it 200 more miles, bring it back for a test. The system still did not reset and the car will not pass emissions. We asked the service manager for other options and all he could give us was lip service (useless rambling), possible troubleshooting repairs and more money. I found on a topix website that gm recalled the pcm for the Equinox but could not find the recall on the NHTSA website. Please research and post the recall if gm has issued one for the pcm.
I have a 2006 chevy Equinox and I've been having difficulty starting it. The cd/radio was not working correctly displaying numbers/letters and signs. -failure to start -poor fuel economy -radio/cd failure I did some research and found that the 2005 chevy Equinox had the same problems and a recall was issued for faulty pcm, which was covered under a NHTSA recall for replacement. The report indicated that it can cause the problems listed above at random times: I checked with the dealership and they indicated that there is no listing for recalls on my 2006 chevy Equinox.
