I was driving on our cities bypass and all of a sudden my car began to jerk and not want to accelerate. After getting to a place that I could safely pull over, I placed the car in park and listened. The car seemed to be running fine. I thought may be it was bad gas but I was on a half tank and had been driving with the same gas for almost a week with no issues. I tried to drive home and when I put the car in drive and went to press the gas, nothing happened. The car would not move. I could hear acceleration, but the car did not budge. I put it in reverse and the same thing occurred. I am reading that transmission failure has been a problem with many 2011 chevy Equinox owners. I have a little under 124,000 miles. Its too many people with this same issue for it not to be recalled by gm. This is not a inexpensive fix and is not fair to consumers.

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, the timing chain failed and the transmission failed, causing the vehicle to no exceed 20 mph with the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the transmission failed to shift into reverse. An independent mechanic was contacted and the contact was informed that the transmission and timing chain needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 41,000.
Pulled onto a main highway, traveling at traffic speed when transmission failure left us in the middle of the road. Had to be pushed off the highway, and then towed to a garage, where told transmission failure is common with these cars. Repair cost of 4100$.
While accelerating on frwy ramp, sudden catastrophic transmission failure, I got to the shoulder, had the car towed to my regular repair garage, he had seen this before, a plate inside the transmission shatters with no warning, had car towed to transmission shop, they diagnosed the same thing, said they have repaired 4 to 5 every year and it's a flaw with these transmissions. They completely rebuilt the transmission and showed me the broken parts. Cost was $3400. 00. Called the chevy dealer for reimbursement and they deny any design or manufacturing defects and refused to do anything. I think you should investigate these transmissions for early failures due to a design or manufacturing defect and make chevy extend the warranties on them. My car had only 52000 miles on it and should not have this failure. I was lucky to get to those shoulder safely. If I can provide any additional information, please contact me. Also, please inform me of your investigation.
Transmission failure at 66,000 miles while vehicle in motion.
Transmission failed at 50,000 miles. I was driving 25 mph down a city street. Of course, I'm out of warranty because of years, and, gm will not consider giving any assistance, even though this is a common problem with the 2011 Equinoxes. An employee at a local dealership said the transmission in the Equinox like mine is garbage. I purchased the car new in March, 2011, and in February 2015 at 26,000 the a/c compressor went out, and I had to pay for that repair.
Transmission failure of the 3,5,r wave plate. Common issue with this year make and model, transmission failed without warning while wife was heading to work, broke down in busy intersection. Gm will not recognize the common problem.
My car stopped in the middle of the highway and I had to sit there for a a little while before it started back. The car started back. I drove the car a little over a 1/. 2 of mile and it stopped again. I stopped and and sat and cranked it back up. I made it to the repair shop to be told my transmission had failed. The car only has 116,000 miles on it. I have had to replace 2 air compressors on the car. The car has also did an automatic shutdown on me. I have had to tow this car 4 times. I think the 2010 Equinox is a faulty car and is unsafe for children and families to be riding around in. The last accident happen on a busy intersection with me and my husband we could have been hurt with all the major traffic coming in our directions.

We purchased this vehicle in Dec 2014 at 42,000 miles as a certified pre owned $15000 cash. The vehicle started experiencing engine trouble in July 2016 it we were in the process of of diagnostics for excess oil consumption and engine repair. After the care broke down on a major highway with my children in the backseat. Aug 2016 the car stalls again on the highway with my children in it. The transmission has failed. We havent even owned the vehicle for 2 years. It only has 76,000 miles on it. But gm says its past the 5 year warranty mark by 8 months so they wont help. I am not the only person having these issues with this make and model. There are stories all over the internet where people have stalled on highways from this issue! it needs to ge recalled. This is a death trap. We could have been seriously injured ow worse. Unfortunately thats what it takes now a days for a company to care.
While driving in a residential neighborhood, the car began to maintain an rpm level of 5,000 and would not go above 25 mph. Got the car home and took it to the dealer. The car was diagnosed with a failed 3 5 wave plate. When test driving the vehicle to diagnose the problem, the dealer informed me that the transmission failed completely. The wave plate had begun to deteriorate and metal particles were floating in the transmission fluid. The car had just under 40,000 miles on it but it is 6 years old so it is out of the warranty. Chevy offered minimal price assistance. This issue with the 3 5 wave plate was a known issue on 2008 and 2009 models and an extended warranty was issued by chevy. The problem was supposed to be resolved for 2010 models, but here we are with the same issue. This is a major safety issue and needs to be corrected.
2010 Chevrolet Equinox. Consumer writes in regards to excessive oil consumption problems, engine replacement and transmission failure. The consumer stated the vehicle would not accelerate. She was able to make it onto the next road and tried shifting into neutral then back to drive again. The vehicle revved when she stepped on the accelerator. She pulled over into a parking lot, shut the engine off, and re-started it again. The consumer was able to drive two miles to her home, never getting out of first gear, while the engine continued to rev. Upon returning home, the consumer attempted to move the vehicle onto the street, out of the driveway, but soon discovered the vehicle would not go in reverse. However, the engine revved. The transmission failed in our 2010 Chevrolet Equinox with roughly 78k mile on it. We originally bought the car brand new in fall of 2009. My wife was driving it near a school when the car lunged forward. She came to a stop sign and then tried to accelerate, but the car didn't go anywhere as the engine just revved like it was in neutral. We had it towed to the dealership. The dealer stated it would need a new transmission which would cost $4,150. Called gm who stated the most the most cost assistance they could provide was $1546 which is based off a calculator they use since the powertrain warranty was expired. The senior advisor for gm that I spoke with stated the transmission shouldn't have failed, but that they couldn't replace the transmission for free since there was no open recall yet for the transmission. I researched google and found many other complaints from vehicle owners of the same make and model regarding their transmission failing also. I then discovered that the 2008 and 2009 models had the exact same transmission as our 2010 model. I read that gm had issued a recall and extended a warranty in March 2015 for the 2008 and 2009 models due to the transmission problems. No recall or extended warranty has been issued yet for the 2010 model. Very disappointed that gm hasn't issued a recall yet for 2010 model when knowing that the same transmission in the 2010 model is having the same exact problems as the 2008 and 2009 models.

The contact was waiting to hear back from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was not available.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox. While driving various speeds, the gear shifter began to slip. The contact stated that the vehicle consumed a large amount of oil. The failure was persistent. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer stated that since the vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic, they could not assist with reimbursement. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.
Transmission failed to shift into any gear when stopping after a long drive. So far two instances where the car failled to move after stopping at a light and at a stop sign after driving more than 50 miles. Dealer can find no problem with car.
Transmission is failing. Transmission type is 6t40. It appears to be either the wave plate or the reverse drum. According to several service centers, there have been continuing issues with this transmission as well as other versions. I do know that chevy has extended the warranty on the engine due to a "concern" over the lower timing chain tensioner. I do not know what percentage of vehicles need to fail before gm would be forced to do something but they obviously know there is an issue because gm/dealerships have agreed to cover some costs for customers that were the original owners after 100k miles. According to my service center, the transmissions seem to begin failing between 80mk and 110k. Unfortunately for me, I am 3% beyond being covered.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle would abnormally jump forward when attempting to accelerate. The dealer advised that the transmission had failed and repairs were made to the transmission. Three months later, the failure recurred and the vehicle would not accelerate over 30 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs. In addition, the contact stated that the air bag was damaged during the first repair. The contact believed that the vehicle was extremely unsafe to drive. The failure mileage was 72,861.

We have a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox with 66000 original miles on it and the transmission has failed. We were coming home from a short road trip and the car started to act up. We couldn't go over 25 miles an hour as we only had 2nd gear. We had no reverse or other gears. We prayed to could limp it home and call the tow truck to come and get it. We had to have it towed to the dealer and had to replace the transmission which costs us $4500 and the transmission was not repairable.
