1 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 10/07/2019

I was almost in a rollover accident on oct 7, 2019. I was travelling on state highways from auburn, PA to hershey, PA at apprx 930am. Roads were damp/wet but rain had stopped. Since I purchased my vehicle, I had always engaged all safety features including lane keep assist (lka), collision alerts, etc. This was main reason I upgraded from my 2014 Equinox. On rt 183, heading up a winding mountain road, I almost lost control several times, despite driving well under speed limit. **note: my bf and I had previously complained to dealer, and even had it in for service, bc we both felt car pulled to the right on its own. We are both extremely safe, experienced, non-distracted drivers and thought something was quite odd/off. Dealer found nothing. Closer to hershey, I was coming around a bend in the road on I believe rt 743 when suddenly my car pulled me severely to the right and almost over an embankment, which would have led to a rollover crash and potential serious injury or death. By the grace of god, and great driving, I just missed a stone wall, and my ?1/4 mile swerving skid back and forth ping-ponged me all over the roadway, barely avoiding mailboxes, fences, and a house. Luckily oncoming traffic did not appear until I straightened out of my skid. I called the dealer and said "my car just tried to kill me. " after research, they called me back and said to turn off the lka. I have, and car no longer pulls to the right, ever. I read the manual, and buried around page 254 is a small black box warning that says to disengage lka on wet, curving roads or collisions may occur. Really???? people can die, and the warning is buried on page 254??? I have talked to other newer car owners who have had similar experiences in other cars/brands. I think these "safety features" are a double edge sword and need further research. I almost died.

3 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 07/29/2019

In a 2019 Equinox with driver packages I and ii installed, having a bike rack installed on the factory installed hitch, rear cross traffic and forward and rear assist safety options are disabled. Chevrolet service claims that the vehicle is not equiped with front park assist, even though it is included in driver package ii. The user manual does not explicityly state that these safety features are disabled if a bike rack is installed. It seems illogical that a bike rack would disable the sensors on the front and sides of the car. This is a major safety issue. . . To disable key safety features, just because there is a bike rack installed. Gm should be more explicit and warn its customers of this safety failure.

4 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 01/06/2018

1) fca - forward collision avoidance does not work properly. This allowed our vehicle to strike another vehicle in the rear. It intermittently will give warning of being close to cars in front of it. In the accident there was no warning from the fca 2) fab - forward automatic braking failed to work - it did not engage when our vehicle struck a car in front of it. Our vehicle was traveling 7mph which is in the specified range per the owners manual. 3) ldw - lane departure warning does not function properly. This system does not warn when our vehicle crosses over a lane marker line nor does it give a gentle assist to the steering wheel. Our vehicle was taken to dealer, and dealer ran diagnostics and took for a test drive. They claim that it is within factory specification, but agreed the systems did not appear to work as described in the owners manual or as advertised. We took a new 2018 Equinox for a test drive, anf found the fca and the ldw failed to perform properly the same as in our vehicle. This appears to be a systemic failure in 2018 Chevrolet Equinox vehicles.

5 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

6 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 08/28/2017

I own an 2015 Equinox lt which I purchased specifically to tow behind a motorhome. We pulled fuse 32 according to the manual (an extra 12-v outlet is required to be installed because the law requires us to have additional braking in the towed). My braking system requires a 12-v outlet and fuse 32 kills the factory installed outlet. 4 times in my travels, my towed has started thrashing about (wobbling) after hitting a small bump on a highway (about 55-60 mph)-- to the point that the motorhome is thrown about. A complete stop is required in order to make it stop wobbling. The hitch has been checked by 3 different hitch specialists -- no problem. Hitch height is correct. We took the car to the chevy dealer in elk city, ok. Told him of the problem, he had a tech look it over and could find no problem. We are now traveling back to CA, but no longer enjoying our Equinox for fear that at any time it will start wobbling. Internet searches reveal we are not the only ones having this problem.

7 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 11/04/2016

We have been having problems as have a few more with our 2014 chev Equinox lt 4 cyclinder motor when we drive on uneven, frost heaves, pot holes roads, any roads. The vehicle when flat towed behind a motorhome will start the "death wobble" I violently shakes the motorhome until we come to a complete stop and then we can start out again. It will do this at any speed. We are following the owners manual and proper hitch adjustments, the 4 cyclinder Equinox has electronic steering as opposed to the 6 cyclinder Equinox, that does not experience this problem, has hydraulic steering. Jeep had the same problem with the cherokee but the developed a wiring fix that powers the electronic power steering wien under tow, gm has yet to admit to the problem. The video I am sending is of a Jeep cherokee, but this is exactly what our 4 cyclinder 2014 Equinox does, as do many more owners say their 4 cyclinder Equinox's does. I had to include a date when this has happened, it has happened many more times than the one I had to put down, this was just the last time it happened. I have tried to send a video, cannot get it done, but if you go to youtube and type in seach, death wobble in Jeep cherokee towed behind motorhome and look at 2014 Jeep cherokee shaking violently while being towed you will see what is happening to our 4 cyclinder 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. This happens at any speed 10-60mph and it does not make a difference at what mileage it is. We bought the vehicle with 21184 miles on it, it now has 42555 miles on it.

8 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 09/15/2015

I purchased this 2013 Chevrolet Equinox and was looking through the owners manual. I found that there is no way to check the transmission fluid level. Talked to the service manager about the absents of a way to check the fluid and was told all new vehicles no longer have a dip stick to check transmission fluid levels. This to me is a safety hazard as if you rely on some service department to tell you that your fluid is low or needs to be replaced you could be paying money that may or may not be necessary. If your on a trip of any distance you could be stuck in the middle of nowhere with a transmission that was destroyed because of lack of fluid that could have been avoided had the fluids been checked prior to your trip. How about driving at highway speeds and the transmission comes apart for lack of fluid an you have an 18 wheeler behind you and the transmission locks up that 18 wheeler would roll right over the top of disabled vehicle. I believe a safety recall should be issued to all make and model vehicles with no fluid dipstick for fluid check of the transmission such as that of my 2013 Chevrolet.

9 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 09/23/2014

After stopping at a gas station, got in my car and automatically locked the doors before starting the engine. Nothing happened when I turned the key. No sound other than a whirring under the hood of the car. I tried multiple times with no success. It was getting very hot in the car so I tried to open the door, and could not. I tried the manual "open" button many times and it would not work. Of course, the windows are electric so they would not go down (there is no lever to roll them down). After approximately 15 minutes, it got so hot in the car I telephoned 911. As the officer drove up, one of the times I tried to turn over the ignition produced a very short success in turning on the electric just long enough for the radio to come on and the doors to unlock. We still do not know what the problem is, but expect it is related to an electrical part(s). I have been on the phone with Chevrolet for almost an hour now. "jordan" still has me on hold (over 20 minutes now) for a supervisor (which I requested - twice) because he infomed me they know of no way to open the door manually when the electric is involved. In fact, he said their "senior" repairman said he had never heard a thing like that happening to anyone before. "jordan" kept telling me to ask the dealership or the napa service center where my car is now of a way to escape the car. I kept telling him I had already talked with the dealership and their repairman told me it could happen the way it did to me, it is dangerous, and he knew of no way to open the door with it being already locked when the electric no longer works. I was extremely lucky, if it is the electric, the car did not catch on fire. I want Chevrolet to make sure there is an escape out of the car when there is an electrical failure.

10 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

2 days after purchase, heard a strange noise in car but unsure where it came from. Returned to dealer, problem couldn't be duplicated. I hear a strange thumping/beating sound periodically; heat exits vents while fan is off; several electrical? incidents, including; heater fan went off while driving on 29 degree winter day. It went back 1/2 hour later. (a few days prior, sounded like fan was losing power); digital speedometer on driver information center went off/blank for a minute while driving; phone charger (lighter & usb) outlet blew 2 fuses after using outlet for a few months with same charger & phone. Inconsistent depends which phone is being charged & charger used; ignition key got very hot after 45 min drive; dashboard lights (instrument cluster?) go dim when driving under a dark viaduct or tunnel, shouldn't they get brighter? manual doesn't explain how dic & instrument panel lights should operate. ); interior dome lights went on 2x on their own; infotainment system screen has a delay. Does not consistently display current song title & artist that is playing; digital temperature not consistently displayed on infotainment screen (new problem); oil life not reset after 1st oil change (caused confusion as to when to do next oil change. ); excessive water exiting tail pipe (told is normal). Service center where car was purchased checked car out on 4 different dates. No repairs done (except resetting oil life & replacing 2 fuses on charger), problems couldn't be duplicated. Went to another chevy service center, noted on paperwork "no problems found at this time", no other explanation given. Afterwards, I chatted with a rep @ chevy. Com, who filed a case & was told a service mgr will call in few days. It's been a few days, no call yet. I have 8200 miles & continue to feel unsafe, especially when driving with my 4 grandsons. They are reason I bought a new car!.

2012 chverolet Equinox. Consumer states problem with towing the vehicle the consumer stated according to the manual, that in order to tow the vehicle on all four wheels, the number 32 fuse must be removed. 13 Owners/service Manual problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

Key sticks in ignition when entered into park, and will not come out most of the time. The only way to release the key is to stick finger into a hole in the steering column and slide the manual release switch within the steering wheel column. There are no obstructions which prevent the gear shift lever from entering the full park position.
