My 2003 chevy Express 2500 cargo van was in evening rush hour stop and go traffic. After reducing my speed to 10 mph then attempting to accelerate. The vehicle stalled and began to idle rough and shut-off. I had to put the vehicle in neutral and restart in the middle of the interstate. I had to continue to shift into neutral and press the gas to prevent the vehicle from shutting off in the middle of traffic. I had the plugs and wires change the very next day and the problem continued. This could have turned into a major accident with the vehicle shutting off in the middle of traffic. This issue should be addressed and an immediate recall notice should be put into effect to prevent a major accident which could lead to a possible fatality. This is dangerous! I've researched this issue and have found multiple chevy Express owner's with the same concern. Gm should do the right thing for the customers who support their brand and product.

This vehicle has had multiple incidents of cutting out and stalling causing loss of steering and brakes, and just before it completely shuts down it will power back up. In April 2011 an operator stated "intermittently when making a left hand turn at approx. 10 - 15 mph with acceleration the traction light comes on and van cuts out for a few seconds like someone shut off the key, it powers most of the way down and then will come back on its own. " during this time the steering and brakes are compromised. In November 2011 an operator stated "powers down while operating, brakes lock up and power steering locks up, van pulls to the right in corners, seems to be abs with no brakes applied in corners/" in November 2012 it was reported from 3 different operators that the van cut out and each of them almost lost control of the vehicle. Reports included going 40-45 mph into a left hand curve, the engine suddenly started to lose power and there was a loss of steering and brakes, and the right hand tire went into the ditch on the right. Another operator said the engine died and the vehicle almost went into the ditch, the vehicle was cold and they had just begun their trip. The 3rd operator said the wheel locked up at 40 mph within the first 1/2 mile. Most of these incidents seem to happen within the first 3 miles of operation.

This relates to ea06-016. I own a 2001 Chevrolet 3500 , engine defect has not been repaired as of this date. The vehicle started to stall as described in the defect report of July of 2006. I have in my possession 6 work orders from bringing the vehicle to my local Chevrolet dealer-whiteman Chevrolet in glens falls NY to diagnose and repair the stall/start problem. The oldest work order was dated 8/15/06 and the most recent on 3/23/07. I have asked for them to check service bulletins and with gm's maintenance help department. About this problem. So far they have not been able to diagnose or repair the problem because my stall/crank problem does not produce a code to trigger the service warning light in the vehicle. And they have told me that gm has no service bulletin or any information on this issue? my problem seems to be exactly what is described in this preliminary investigation, vehicle will stall while driving and will crank without starting. This happens on an intermittent but regular basis, just not when the dealership has the vehicle in its service dept. The incident date listed below in the approximate date and mileage when incident first occurred. The number of failures listed is just a guess, too many to really recall. Just wanted to indicate that it is not a one time only incident. This vehicle is used in as a work vehicle and makes short trips, used seasonally-not in the winter months.
