12 Power Train problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 06/01/2024

The transmission started to fail at around 65k miles. There were no warning signs, it just began shifting hard and then began slipping. It was taken to a transmission shop and the fluids were replaced, but this did not change anything. It was at this time we were told the transmission would need to be replaced, but they had no means to obtain a replacement. It has been over two years since the problems started and the transmission is still in the vehicle and we drive it daily. It continues to slip going up through the gears and progressively gets worse during the day. By the end of the day you cannot pull out in front of anyone for fear of it slipping and not grabbing the next gear. This is an obvious danger to us and other drivers around us. The problem has been evaluated by the Chevrolet dealer and two other independent shops. The fluids have been changed but this did not help. Only the dealer has been able to provide a solution which is to replace the transmission. This was quoted to cost $11,000. Due to this high price and no alternative options, we've continued to drive the vehicle as safely as possible.

13 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 05/07/2024

When I come to stop in traffic the drivetrain suddenly jolts and pushes the vehicle forward potentially pushing me into the car or traffic in front of me unless I put it in neutral or press hard on the brakes approaching the stoplight. Happens everyday.

14 Power Train problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 04/09/2024

When the vehicle approaches 45-50 mph on the highway, the car begins to shake violently, where it feels like the body/frame of the vehicle is going to separate from the car. The only way to resolve/reset this is to bring the vehicle to an almost complete stop and then re-accelerate. When this happens on the highway everyone violently shakes in the vehicle, and it is difficult to quickly bring the car to a halt as other cars are traveling at highway speeds behind the vehicle. This has been taken to the dealership multiple times over the years with no resolution.

15 Power Train problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 02/21/2024

18 Power Train problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 07/31/2023

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Express. The contact stated that while the vehicle was stopped with the transmission in reverse(r), the vehicle moved forward. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall on the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 4,783.

19 Power Train problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 07/01/2023

I am reporting a recurring transmission defect in my 2019 chevy Express cargo van. Shortly after purchase, I noticed clunking sounds when slowing down or coming to a stop. The issue progressed into rough shifting and eventual check engine lights with codes p0722 and p0700. The dealership stated the valve body had already been replaced in 2020 and suspects the torque converter is the root cause, which is causing repeated valve body failures. These transmission failures create unsafe driving conditions, including loss of smooth deceleration and unpredictable shifting behavior. I believe this is a design flaw affecting the hydra-matic transmission system and may qualify as a safety risk. There are multiple class action lawsuits currently pending regarding gm’s 8-speed transmissions (speerly v. Gm; battle v. Gm), and many consumers are reporting similar symptoms.

20 Power Train problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 04/09/2023

Since purchasing this vehicle in 2018 we have had an ongoing issue of the car randomly going into a violent shaking when exceeding speeds of about 60mph, it happens without warning, and other than coming to an almost standstill, it is impossible to recover the vehicle. This is extremely dangerous on the freeway. Have taken the vehicle to Chevrolet dealership multiple times without any resolution. They would charge us for an alignment and this never fixed the problem. This continues to be an ongoing issue, and now having researched it on the internet, I am reading this is not a unique experience by Chevrolet/gm truck owners.

21 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 03/20/2023

Improper shift and hard jerking downshifts which has been a continuous problem since September 22.

22 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 05/09/2020

Transmission needed replaced at 50,000 miles.

23 Power Train problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 05/03/2018

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Express van. The contact stated that while driving and slowing down, the vehicle aggressively downshifted, the brake pedal independently depressed and the vehicle lunged forward. The contact was concerned about the hard upshifts and hard downshift of the transmission. The vehicle stated that if the vehicle was turned off and made to sit for five minutes and restarted, the vehicle operated as intended. The vehicle was taken to vera motors located at 300 s university dr, pembroke pines, FL 33025, (954) 362-9458, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the fuel control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000. Ah.

24 Power Train problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 03/21/2017

Driving down a hill at 30 mph on a one lane curve the vehicle completely quit. I struggled to turn the wheel to the side of the road. It had 3/4 tank of fuel and only 7,000 miles on it. It would not start. Called and got a tow to chevy dealer where it was bought. They could not duplicate it. Have receipt and info from them.

25 Power Train problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 01/05/2017

The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Express. While driving various speeds, the stabilitrack and traction control service warning indicators illuminated along with a beeping sound. In addition, the power reduce warning indicator illuminated and the engine power reduced. The vehicle idled very erratically. The contact had to restart the vehicle in order for it to operate normally. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was 109,000.

26 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 05/18/2016

I bought a Chevrolet van Express with a 6. 0 v8 engine a year ago with only 37000 miles. Approximately 2 months after purchase, I began having trouble with the engine and stabilitrak system in addition to the low beam headlight failure detailed below same across the entire v8 6. 0 engines produced by Chevrolet. The van vehicle shook violently stressing all the occupants. While traveling on the highway my check engine and traction light illuminated simultaneously. I was also alerted that "engine power was reduced" and my vehicle shut down two times in a 30 minute span of time. Now with only 41,000 miles I have parked the van until a recall corrects the dangerous safety problems. Again while traveling on the highway my air bag sensor went off with the check engine and traction light again illuminated simultaneously. The van vehicle shook violently stressing all the occupants. I was alerted that "engine power was reduced" and my vehicle stopped cold. I will never buy another gm product they are fraught with electrical problems. This is causing safety issues being in a compromising position 3 times with 9 people and 2 are infants in the van. Research shows this to be an ongoing issue. This has been a nightmare. Something as dramatic as a total engine failure in a car that is as popular as the v8 6. 0 engine is a frightening issue that everyone across the industry is going to want to know more about. F the engine won¿t restart . Tthe steering will feel increasingly heavier, making it harder to steer. Also the power boost for the brakes disappears after one or two applications, making the van harder to stop. In the affected vehicles, the underhood bussed electrical center (ubec) housing can expand and cause the headlamp low beam relay control circuit wire to bend. If the wire is repeatedly bent, it may fracture causing a loss of low beam headlamp illumination.

27 Power Train problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

The engine will go to low power and not go more than 30 mph without warning. This is an ambulance chassis and is a know problem gm has not addressed yet in the 2012 and 2013 chassis. It can do this on hwys with speed limits of 55, 65, 70 mph suddenly which could cause an accident as no stop lights give any warning and you can't speed up anytime in poor visibility or at anytime. Not only is it bad for the injured or ill patient it could cause an accident and injury others. Gm has fixed this on the 2014 and newer models but not 12 &13. This is not just our one unit this is 2012 and 2013 chevy diesels ambulance all over the us. We have four units that it can happen to and two that is has with patients. I have contacted the epa, gm, and our indiana state senators trying to get this dangerous situation taken care of in the last few days. I am asking anyone who will listen to help push gm for a fix.

28 Power Train problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 12/21/2014

My speedometer quickly jumps from one indicated speed to another speed that is clearly inaccurate, down as low as -0- while driving, accompanied by the transmission attempting to downshift on it's own, which causes a severe engine over-rev condition or going into a neutral momentarily with no input from me as the driver. There are no specific actions I can take to trigger the erratic symptom, nor any specific action I can take to cause normal operation. With snow and ice on the roads at this time of the year this is extremely dangerous as it could cause the van to lock up the rear wheels on slippery pavement causing lack of control. This condition can occur regardless of whether or not cruise control is selected, regardless of the gear I manually select, and regardless of the trailer mode being selected or not. Simultaneously the "check engine" light goes on, the "abs light" and "brakes" lights are lit on the dashboard although no braking abnormalities are noted. I reported a less severe case of this several months ago, but received no reply from the NHTSA. Doing internet research I find that it may be a defective speedometer dashboard assembly that would need to be sent away for repair/exchange. They require a large deposit in order to go thru the verification process that the odometer reading I report is the same as the unit I send in. Part cost with deposit is close to $600, and they show an online internet video of how to remove the dashboard unit which takes less than 3 minutes. I've read this is a common problem with this vehicle make, model and year. I am the original owner since new, and it has less than 17,000 actual miles on it.

29 Power Train problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 08/25/2014

Driving on interstate at 65 mph, the abs warning light came on, and the speedometer started jumping erratically from actual speed to lower speeds 45, 25 + others as low as 8 (eight) mph. This caused the transmission to downshift unpredictably, over-revving the engine speed. It happened repeatedly so I documented the odometer erratic movement on my cell phone as a video, showing road movement + all gauges + audio events like engine over-revving at same time. The video is of high quality and the events taking place are documented with the video. Rural area with few cars on road at the time. If it took place in a city interstate environment (especially in the winter months) it might have caused a multiple car collision with sudden unexpected downshifting that was out of my control. Engine rpm also hunts erratically and out of my control. Predictable in what it does, it begins approximately within a range of 4-8 miles after leaving home daily. When engine turned off and parked at a local store as an example, it will clear it's problem as if a cpu is "re-booted", and repeat the cycle of erratic behavior from that new starting point. When I bought + installed actron brand obd-ii code reader which features ability to reveal abs brake codes, it never shows any other stored codes except a single po446 which is an emissions related code. This van was originally sent new by the selling nh Chevrolet dealer to the pennsylvania based quigley conversion facility, so in February 2004 was modified from rwd to a 4wd by exchanging stock model 2500 front end for a 4 wd pickup truck new factory front end with 4wdl, neutral, 2wdh 4wdh floor control lever. The driver's door jam has an 8600 lb gvw certification which is appropriately quigley's. My very low odometer at 16,614 miles is accurate, as I also have other vehicles to use, and work at home.

30 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Express. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle hesitated to shift gears with the illumination of the check engine light. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.

31 Power Train problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 05/06/2011

About 10 days after purchasing our 2011 Express van my wife and I were driving down I 81 between shippensburg and newville, PA and the van started pulling to an abrupt halt for no reason. I checked the parking brake and thought maybe I was resting my foot on the brake. Nothing the van would not move. I placed the transmission in park and it was ok again. This happened 5 more times. I took it back to h and h cevy and of course they couldn't find anything. On one occassion going down PA 996 just past letterkenny depot, about 54-55 mph, it did it again this time really hard and my wife had to hang on to keep from hitting her head. The speedometer started saying check all-wheel drive immediately, check limited slip immediately. I took it back and h and h of shippensburg said nothing showed up on the computer. A year later I found out about a recall on the van. . I took this to h and h and they refused to acknowledge it because it did not have a gm recall number. I went 3 more time this year in January. They never even looked into it. It hasn't done it anymore. I figure the part is problably worn out by now. $38,000. 00 cash I paid for a van and nobody wanted to look at the rear spline pin.

32 Power Train problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 08/28/2010

2008 chevy 3500 Express van with about 40,000 miles. Have a problem with the stabilatrack system and the dealer said it is a wiring problem. It is a fleet van. Have had the problem on 2 of 15. Transmission down shifts when this happens, speed is limited to about 15 mph, speedometer quits. Stabilatrack light turns on.

33 Power Train problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 04/10/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Express. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph and attempting the go down a hill or a light slope, the vehicle revved and shook violently. The contact softly applied the brake pedal and slowed down to steady the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the vehicle was unable to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated the failure was an unknown issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer did not offer any assistance. The failure recurred several times and was not remedied. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

34 Power Train problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 01/01/2003

Nar 1/15/2003. The consumer stated the vehicle had an intermittent deceleration problem. At times, there was no engine hold back when the gas pedal was released, at other times, the deceleration was good when the pedal was released. There was a good hold back when going down a hill with the cruise control set, but if it was not set, the vehicle appeared to be in free wheeling mode, which allowed the vehicle to pick up an excessive amount of speed. The operation of the vehicle happens for no apparent reason and sometimes the mode lasted for several months . The dealer attributed the change as the coast mode of the transmission.

35 Power Train problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 03/15/2000

The speedometer needle sticks after several hours of driving (long trips). The needle has stayed stuck at 70 mph when comming off of the Expressway until almost at a complete stop. It has also stayed at 20 - 30 mph when the vehicle was going about 50 mph. Dealer and chevy will not authorize repairs until condition can be replicated by the service dept. Given the intermittent nature of this important safety device failure, it is no longer safe to drive the vehicle for long periods. Unrelated problem, both outside rear view mirrors vibrate in the wind making it difficult to see objects in them.
