1 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 07/20/2005

Contact owns 2003 Chevrolet Express g3500 passenger van. The van will accelerate on its own sporadically. This started around 7-20-05. It does it while stopping at stop light and it will also do it while driving on the highway. The idle speed control motor, throttle position sensor, cooling sensor, ecm, and the prom have all been changed within 5-6 weeks. He says it did it at any speed sporadically. He made an appointment to bring the car in again for a possible repair. The check engine light will usually come on after an incident.

2 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 06/15/2005

The transmission had an overheating problem that caused the vehicle to switch to "safe" mode. Safe mode compensated the transmission heat problem by hard shifting. The vehicle was taken to a transmission specialty repair shop where I learned that the problem was in the design of the transmission. It was the opinion of the repair shop that gm knew of the problem but would not issue a recall because the issue was not life threatening. Cost of modification was $1,600.

3 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 06/12/2005

After traveling for long periods of time on a highway and then slowing to a stop on the exit, the vehicle hard shifts in gears 1-2. If you shut off the engine, it appears ok until the next time. Transmission fluid is ok. Vehicle only has 47500 miles. Had mechanic check and gets computer code 1870, with engine check light on. Numerous posts on the web have similar complaints on chevy/gm vehicles with 4l60e transmission, but no recall to date. May now have to replace transmission.

When the brakes were applied the vehicle shifted into 3rd gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and they could not find the cause of the problem. This happened nine times in 2900 miles.

7 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 01/10/2001

The reaction shell broke in the transmission, disabling the vehicle completely while in traffic. This caused my wife who was driving it to essentially stall out. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but the repairs to a vehicle with such low mileage totaled over $2200. 00. Mighty poor quality. Thankfully the failure did not take place while she was passing someone, or going uphill.

8 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Express

Failure Date: 05/22/2000

Transmission has hard shift from first to second. Sets off s e s light. Took to jerry brown Chevrolet in bufford GA, the transmission man there test drove my van with me, he hooked a test unit to see what was going on said something called staor? bushings and /or valve body, said he sees this alot in the 1997 and 1998 models. My question is if gm knew about it why are they not letting owners know and fixing them.

9 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Express

When the vehicle was in reverse, it rolled forward. When the vehicle was parked on a slight grade then placed into reverse the vehicle would roll forward before it engaged in reverse. The consumer had to put on foot on the brake and one foot on the accelerator to alleviate this problem.
