38 Ignition Switch problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 05/16/2014

I had the ignition changes as of a recall. The electrical started to act up after that, the cruse control will kick off, the doors will lock and unlock, the alarm will go off even if you unlock it with the key, the remote control stopped working, the radio stopped working & then started again, and the drivers door will show locked, but doesn't. This seems to all be controlled by the ignition switch. Its to the point I am afraid to drive it because it may leave me stranded or stop working in traffic. But the company says that it has nothing to do with the ignition.

42 Ignition Switch problem of the 2007 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 04/16/2014

The recall I have had so far was with the ignition switch and that took the dealership over one month to repair. After my car was repaired and apparently rekeyed I am locked out of my car, the key will not unlock my car door. I called the gm roadside assistance, with hopes of assistance. They inform me they will be a $59. 95 fee to unlock my car and they accept all major credit cards. I explained to them this was not my error it as a result of the ignition recall they stood firm of their fee and suggested I call the local authorities. When I contacted gm about the recall I had shared with them I was having power steering issues. While I am driving my car my power steering goes out and it becomes hard to steer as well the is a display on the dashboard "power steering". On several occasions on the street, freeway and while turning into a parking space. I then became aware of a recall on Hhr power steering, however they say it not with my vehicle. Later I read an article stating that jeff boyer was offering a lifetime warranty on the vehicles that have not been recalled. Gm also said 309,160 non-turbocharged Chevrolet Hhrs from the 2006-2008 model years model year that are not subject to these recalls will be given lifetime warranties for replacement of the electronic power steering motor. So then when I call the 800 number to find out how I may have this power steering issue addressed with my district advisor he shares with me there has been no statement made that he is aware of I feel unsafe driving in this vehicle and with the round around and non assistance I am getting from gm I am not sure I ever will. Best regards, burgett mcbride.

Failure Date: 03/09/2014

Greetings NHTSA, I am writing to document some things about our 2010 Chevrolet Hhr. Yes, it was part of the recall, but I need for you to be inform of some things, that I pray can help someone else: 1. Power issues: the power would act so crazy that we never knew when it was going to shut off. Exp. This past winter, the blower motor would blow cold air, while it was freezing outside! or it would not work at all, then, the blower heater would come on, just by turning the ignition on. . And it would blow hot air. And it would not turn off, unless the key was out of the ignition. The dash would get very hot, showing a potential for a fire. Apparently, each time a fuse had blown out. We would replace it and in three weeks it would go out again. Something electrical must of been going on. There was also, power steering concerns. 2. We took it in to serra Chevrolet in southfield, michigan to have the ignition switch replace. We were given a rental, and it took over three weeks for the part to arrive. We were hoping that the ignition switch was causing the problem and that it would go away, once replaced. 3. On June 4th, 2014-the parts came in. . 4. On Thursday, June 5th, 2014, the new ignition switch was replaced. The next day, June 6th, 2014, the blower motor went crazy again, and the airbag warning light came on. ( with all of the issues with the car, the airbag light never came on until the new ignition switch was installed. 5. Afraid of an airbag disaster today, June 9th, 2014, my husband took the car back to serra Chevrolet in southfield, michigan. They are so backed up, with cars. They cannot even look at it until tomorrow. My husband was dropped off, no rental no loaner! and now we are without a car, thank you. And "be blessed" pastor deborah satterwhite c/o edwin satterwhite-consumers-2010 Chevrolet Hhr owner.

54 Ignition Switch problem of the 2008 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 02/06/2014

The car hit a bump on the street and power steering alarm went off indicating a loss of that function. When pulled over to the side of the road, and ignition was turned off and back on, the problem resolved. From there on out, this problem would occur at irregular times whether the car hit a bump or not and the same remedy was used: pull over, turn switch off, turn switch back on and proceed. Within a distance of 32 miles, this averaged about 6 times. Today the dealership called and reported the car was fixed, but when my wife asked about the power steering problem, we were told "if it happens again, just bring it back", which doesn't sound as if that part of the ignition switch was fixed. We did not want to sign off on our car until the entire problem was taken care of. Thank you for any help in this matter.

After abiding by the recall to change the ignition switch, the car starts freaking out randomly. The dash lights start going on and off. Loose power steering, power brakes and the car just stops. You can be going 70 miles an hour down the highway and the car just gives out. The dealership refuses to fix it unless I am willing to pay all the fees. I had a second dealership replace some fuses but after 2 days it started doing it again. After the first episodes, I called and opened a ticket with Chevrolet, but because the dealership I used didn't want to mess with the car any more they were not very helpful. Now I am driving a death trap because I can't afford a new car and I won't let my children drive or be in the car.

68 Ignition Switch problem of the 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Failure Date: 03/08/2013

Pulled into garage, placed shifter in park, ignition key would not rotate to last detent position and key could not be removed, leaving some electrical items on. Shifter button was depressed and would not unlock but shift could be put in any gear. I searched internet for problem and learned how to remove cover under ignition switch and manipulate a button inside the column to allow key to be released. Car can be started again but to shut off and remove key, same process required. A big problem I have found on internet from other owners is that instead of paying the outrageous cost to fix, many drivers are doing the above, which is a dangerous situation because the shift lever can easily, accidentally be shifted into another gear while in motion ! this problem is caused be a metal pin, mounted in an inferior plastic piece, which breaks or otherwise allows the metal pin to fall out of position. This is reported in all year models, at all mileages. My car is a 2006 with 11000 miles- 7 years old, and obviously hardly used, let alone abused, and of course, out of warranty ! gm has upgraded the replacement part with a shroud of metal reinforcing the plastic, and has repaired and replaced under warranty on models from 2009 to date. This is obviously a design defect, and also a safety issue. Gm needs to recall all models with this defect ! they are not offering any solution for a repair that many owners have paid up to $600 of their own money, and I for one am going to fight this in all ways possible. Govt, media, bbb, social media, etc ! review the internet by searching " chevy Hhr ignition key stuck" . This also affects chevy cobalt and pontiac g5.
