I smelled a strong odor of gas behind the right rear wheel of my 2010 chevy Hhr. Two different mechanics verified that the fuel lines had rusted through and need to replace. The first mechanic said that the car was unsafe to drive, and that he was not qualified to replace the lines. I had the vehicle towed to a chevy dealership would confirmed that the lines rusted through. Google search states the cost to replace the fuel lines including labor will be around $1,034. The dealership is charging me $1,754! during my google search, I saw that many other owners of chevy Hhrs have had the same issues. I wish for chevy to reimburse me the expense to replace the fuel lines.

Rusted fuel line is leaking and spraying fuel on ground and exhaust.
While refueling the vehicle several weeks ago I noted a strong smell of gasoline. I did not see any visible fuel leak at the gas station. Drove the vehicle home approximately 10 miles, 20 minutes travel time. Gasoline smell persisted. On exit from the vehicle the smell became strong and I observed a liquid dripping/pooling under the vehicle on the driveway. Drips were occurring from the driver side rear of the vehicle slightly in front of the left rear wheel approximately 6 inches interior from the edge of the vehicle. After 15 minutes the drips subsided. Vehicle has not been used or moved since this incident.
Corrosion of the metal fuel lines underneath the vehicle towards the rear and in the vicinity of the left rear wheel well.

Gas is pouring onto the driveway on the left rear side when the vehicle is running.
Fuel line is rusted and leaking. This is apparently in numerous models and prior years as well. This metal piece on the fuel line is leaking. Fuel leaks out no matter how short of time you drive. I’m concerned with a fire and live on a fixed disability income and it’s food or the vehicle which I need to get to the doctor.
Rear section of the rear fuel line started to rott out and started leaking. The sction is where there is insulation on the line, adjacent to the left rear tire. The rest of the line is good with no corrosion or rust. When the car is running and stopped a puddle forms under the car that is gasoline. I noticed it about a week ago , I smelled gas and thought the engine was the source, but later determined it was the fuel line as I could see the leak. It is by the rear plastic fuel line holder / support. The vehicle is always parked on a concrete driveway or paved street. Never on grass or dirt.

Strong smell of gasoline on left side of vehicle in front of rear tire. Gasoline is present when viewed from underneath. Looks like leakage is in area where 4 lines (supply/vent/brake?/brake? ) are mounted together. . . Or certainly in that area. I do see on line that this is not a new issue with owners. Have just started the process of getting quotes on this repair.
From drivers side rear, fuel line rusted thru the axlefuel leaking dealer replaced rusted fuel line from the good line tat firewall to the nylon hosed at the fuel tank. Cost 850. 00.
Fuel smell / leak. Car developed a gas smell while driving and after getting out of the car a small amount of gas poured out in front of the passenger door on the drivers side. I was told my gas line has rusted through and will need to be replaced.
Fuel line leak at drivers side rear wheel well. Same leak that has been reported by others.
The fuel line on the drivers side just in front of the rear tire is leaking fuel.
Fuel lines have corroded causing fuel to leak. Located at rear wheel of driver's side near exhaust pipe.
Fuel brake line on driver's side rear wheel corroded and sprung a leak. Leaky area was wrapped in a heat protecting shield and which probably collected water and caused the excessive corrosion. I notice many other similar complains regarding chevy Hhrs.
Gas leak has started on the driver side in front of the rear tire.
My fuel line is leaking like so many others. Driver side near the rear wheel well in the bracket that holds the lines to the body. I also owned a 2007 chevy Hhr that had the same issue, both started at just over 150,000 miles. While the leak on the 2007 was minor the leak one the 2010 has gotten so bad that the vehicle will no longer idle.
Notice a gas smell coming from the car when I would get out of the car after driving it . But could not find the source of the smell at first . Then one day I was parked on a black asphalt payment and seen a wet spot on the payment I then looked under and seen a small wet spot on the protector where the gas line run through on the left side near the lower rear door wear it opens up I then made a call to my gm car dealer ship to see if it is under warranty or a recall but they said no recall for the fuel lines that when I looked up if other people are having the same problem . And found over 614,000 having the same problem . Note I am waiting on the parts from my dealer so they can fix it which is over $900. 00 I am paying for it .

Fuel line leaking right in front of rear driver side tire. Puddles up. Steady leak. And strong odor of gasoline in and outside of the car. Gets me woozy at times. It also gets on my tires and affects steering if I was parked on pavement for a while it puddles back to my rear tire. And makes me worry about a fire. Right in the back seat where a car seat would be. Because I was driving through my yard a while back and my family was burning some limbs and stuff. All at once I get flagged down where it has caught fire to my car. Luckily I put it out before it did any permanent damage. But it is not safe for sure.
Leaking fuel lines in front of drivers side rear tire. Fuel lines appear to be rusted. Fuel lines are routed very near exaust pipe.
Fuel line is rusted, strong smell of fuel, needs a total replacement.
Purchased vehicle in Sep 2021. After 4 months of purchase, muffler became loose from exhaust after hitting a pothole on highway and, having a mechanical background, I repaired the exhaust by placing a solid stainless steel exhaust sleeve around the weak area and tac welding it. Within a month, I began to smell a rich fuel odor after every trip. I jacked up vehicle and found a fuel leak within insulated area just left of exhaust. I also located another small exhaust leak and repaired it as best as possible with an exhaust wrap, then took it to an exhaust repair shop. I was told fuel leak had to be repaired before exhaust repairs could be done. Mechanic said Hhrs we're well known for fuel line corrosion due to poor design and eventually leaking. He said he has turned away many Hhrs and cobalts for this problem over the last 2-3 years.
I am a former master certified mechanic from 1982 to the mid 90's. I also have a mechanical engineering degree and worked at gm for 22 years. I owned this vehicle since November 2014 and recently sold it to my girlfriends daughter. I have done all the repairs on this vehicle since 2014. I was told there was a strong fuel odor coming from the vehicle. Upon inspection, I found the fuel lines rusted and leaking in front of the left rear tire where they contact a plastic holder. The evaporative lines are in the same bundle and are also rusted and will fail soon. The mileage on this vehicle is 201k miles.
Started smelling gas when getting out of car. Smell comes from the rear, on the driver side. Upon inspection, this is caused by fuel line corrosion.
Something with steering and esc problem unknown for now. The fuel line leaked and needed replacement. The drivers wiper is in visibility.
Fuel line rusted and leaks.
My 2020 Hhr (which I utilize while in florida) developed a fuel leak on the driver side just in front of the rear tire. This fuel leak is right alongside the exhaust system which created a very unsafe scenario that could have easily resulted in an explosion and / or fire while driving this vehicle. I did some research and it appears that vehicles like mine are all experiencing a similar problem. I took my car to the chevy dealer and it cost me $940 to fix this problem. With so many owners of similar vehicles having the exact same problem I believe this should have been covered under a general motors recall and those who had to pay to get this fixed should be reimbursed. I have attached a copy of the receipt for the work done by the chevy dealer for your informtion. I did notice that an investigation has been underway to determine if gm should recall vehicles for this problem. Had I been driving on the highway and not realized there was a gasoline leak right by the exhauset pipe it could have been a very tragic situation for me and my family. Thank you for looking into this and please let me feel free to contact me if you have any questions, etc.
Fuel line leak by rear driver side tire. Vehicle was hard to start then ran fine as had lost fuel pressure while sitting not running. Noticed fuel on ground by tire contacting dealer Monday for repair.
The fuel line has corroded near the driver rear tire and is leaking fuel near the exhaust pipe. The leak is bad enough to create a 12 inch puddle in less than 30 seconds.
Fuel line corroded and ruptured at the fuel line heat shield area along the car by the drivers side just in front of the back wheel. It was leaking profusely, especially when under pressure as when the engine is on. Went through a half tank of gas in 24 hours. Strong smell and huge, huge fire danger. I found many such reports of the exact same issue from many other Hhr owners. Took to belle tire in petoskey michigan for repair and they told me it's a very common problem with cobalts and Hhr's from the mid to late 2000's. Parts were only inspected by the repair garage. There were no warning lights. Found out by smell and sight and reduced engine performance.
Fuel line rotted thru spraying on exhaust left rear.
Metal fuel line is leaking near exhaust. Leak is coming from factory heat sheild that is around the fuel line. Heat sheild is holding moisture causing lines to rust. Doing research I am seeing this is a common problem and wondering why there is no recall.
My fuel line is pouring gas out . The gas fumes are filling the cabin of the car waiting for a repair.
