My 2001 Impala that is in mint condition and has less that 100k on the mileage just caught fire on the top of the motor. I heard a loud boom then seen the fire. I ran to my garage and put the fire out with an extinguisher. This melted the valve cover, some of the injectors wires the plastic intake and damaged the beauty cover. . I am now out of a vehicle. I posted this online to get some ideas of what happened and what do I see, an open recall from general motors for the specific issue. What are my steps to get this fixed? I contacted different dealerships however they are giving me a run around. I shouldn't have to be the victim of poor design during the manufacturing process nor should I have to be out of a vehicle considering I take great care of my vehicles. Please assist.

All at once the car would not start depending on how key was in ignition. Could wiggle then start, sometimes had to wait a period of time before you could wiggle it and it started. Unreliable. At the exact same time the front end electrical seemed to all go haywire. Headlights not working properly. High beams with no low. Wipers went into upright position when car started and won't go down. All routine maintainance and tuneups were on schedule.

01 Impala 3. 8. I went to start the car. There was an explosion and the engine caught fire. The intake plenum exploded when I attempted to start the car. The car was not repairable. The potential for injury is great if someone is standing near the open engine bay. The car was well maintained and in excellent condition despite the high miles.
