The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that when she turns the ignition, it does not recognize the key. She has to wait 10-15 minutes to turn the ignition again before the vehicle starts normally. The failure has been occurring for approximately seven months. In addition, the headlights and instrument panel lights flicker while the vehicle is in motion. The security light also illuminates in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, who stated that the fuel pump needed to be repaired. The relay switches run through the fuel pump. Two new relay switches were installed at the contact's expense. The dealer stated that there were not enough complaints to issue a recall for this issue. The failure mileage was 115,000 and current mileage was 126,651.
2002 chevy Impala. Bought new. The speedometer and the fuel gage started to act erratically two years ago. The speedometer failed completely last year. It shows infinite speed for example while idling. No way to know how fast the car is going. Thousands of people reporting the same problem on various internet blogs. The problem exists on all Impala models, starting with 2001 and until present. Some other gm cars have a similar problem. Gm does not care. Dealers charge up to $900 to replace an instrument cluster, and sometimes a speed sensors. Many times they are guessing the problem and overcharge customers for trail and error diagnostic. The issue is a safety issue. People are getting speeding tickets for no fault of their own. Car can overturn on sharp turns. The driver has only his gut feeling to guess how fast he is going. He can be to slow on a highway and pose risk to other drivers. Gm is not concerned and won't fix this problem, unless a recall is forced on it. Please safeguard the lives of drivers and force gm to do what is fair and just. They sold a defective product and should fix the problem immediately. Thank you.
2002 Impala. Have a build up of water in both front headlights, this problem is on going for at least two years. . Very hard to see at night. High beams will not turn on with multi shifter and cruise control shuts off after a few minutes of use. Dealer states this is all normal. This last problems with cruise control is a new problem.
Car is having multiple strange electrical problems. Turn signals work intermittently - will often not work at all. Sometimes have to turn on emergency flashers to get turn signals to work. On the instrument panel, the fuel gauge is not working properly - does not show the correct fuel level. Will sometimes show full when the tank is empty, will sometimes show empty when the tank is full. Most often shows half full, regardless of actual fuel level. Gm certified mechanic verified that fuel pump and sending unit are not faulty. This problem has been going on for approximately 2 years. Bcm was replaced, no change in problems. Possible issue with instrument panel cluster (ipc). Because of turn signal problems, I have had several "near misses" in accidents because I was unable to properly signal for a turn. Fuel gauge problem has caused me to be stranded when I ran out of fuel unexpectedly because I didn't know how much fuel I actually had.
2002 Impala LS with serious electrical problems. The first problem started with the turn signals going out. Then the radio would not go off even when the keys were out and doors locked, and sometimes does not work at all. Automatic door lock no longer works. When trying to start the car, I have to turn the key several times and then wait for it to finally start. The interior lights flicker. The headlights don't always work - I try not to drive at night because I never know when they'll go out. The instrument panel works about half the time, so I don't know how much fuel I have or how fast I am going. The message display goes between "security", "high beam out", "service engine soon", when it's working. There seems to be a new electrical component that goes out each day.
