general problems of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala - part 1

Car shuts off while in traffic and it says engine power reduced service traction control.

While wife was driving at normal speed car went into limp mode many times over last few months causing accelerator pedal sensor codes. We have since changed this pedal sensor 6 times and same issue and codes pop up. We also changed throttle body w sensor and connector pigtail. I think there is corrosion in ecm and all these items have failed. These items should have been recalled as manufacturer defects in my opinion. We are still having problems same codes and im not the only one!.

The car is not driving smooth. The car is having multiple problems.

Reduced engine power light comes on intermintently while driving had the throttle body and accelerator pedal replcaed twice after I bought the car with 75000 miles on it. Still the reduced engine power light comes on. Just yesterday I was unable to start my car. Throttle problems light came on in window.

Lights came on dash service throttle, reduced engine power. I was driving down the highway on 8/16/2018 going 55 when the car started to chatter and I struggled to pull over to the side of the road, I almost was rear ended because it was so sudden. I shut the car off and let it sit for a bit then it started and I went on. Today it did it and it still wont start after hours.

My vehicle experiences an �engine power is reduced� message in addition to losing capability of driving faster than 40 mph likely as a result of a common fault by the manufacturer.

The contact stated while driving at 60 mph the reduced engine power and the service stability control indicators illuminated and the vehicle deescalated. The vehicle was diagnosed by a dealer (staten island Buick GMC 1855 hylan blvd. Staten island, NY 10305) who stated that sensors t2135 (throttle body) and p2138 (accelerator pedal actuator) they failed and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was aware of the issue and stated they would replace the throttle body but the accelerator pedal would not be done. The failure mileage was 59,502. Jc.

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated while driving 70mph the engine power reduced warning light illuminated and the vehicles mph gauge dropped to zero and then to 40mph. The contact continued to press on the accelerator pedal but the stated he thought the vehicle only went approximately 20 mph instead of what was on the gauge. The vehicle was diagnosed at a prior time from an independent mechanic who notified the contact that the accelerator pedal and an unknown sensor had failed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer since then. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that they were to start a case file and send it over to their team. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000. Jc.

Engime power reduced seevice tractuon control. While driving power is cut to near nothing. About 20 mph. After shutting the car off and starting a few hours later it's fine. A couple days later it happens again. Faulty equipment from gm.

When my Impala is in motion within the minutes it states engine power reduced and it slows down the car. If I drive 60 mph or more when engine power is reduced then it says service shuttling down and the car will completely shut down it's a big safety hazard especially when I'm on the freeway.

First, the key will not come out of the ignition without pressing the release key switch located under the steering wheel. Then the car won't accelerate over 20 mph in d while driving anywhere, it won't go over 40 in d3. Not sure why but this is what is happening with the Impala.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle positioning sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was called and informed the contact that if a diagnostic fee was paid, the vehicle could be covered under a technical service bulletin. The contact stated that he did not have money for a diagnostic fee. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.

I was driving in traffic around 5:30pm cst on us 59 n and rankin rd Tuesday 11/15/16 when my vehicle lost engine power. I was unable to accelerate or steer and the only light that came on in the car was the service tire monitor system. I managed, somehow, to steer the vehicle to the left shoulder of the freeway and put it in park. I turned off the vehicle and when I went start it again, after releasing the key, it made a stuttering to start sound over and over again even though I was no longer touching the key. When I tried to start it again it turn on and then back off and continued to do this at least 3 more times. I eventually had it towed to my home and after reading online today at forums. Edmonds. Com many people have been having this issue with Impala's and suburban's from gm for at least 4 years now, first post is back in 2012. Gm needs to put a recall on these vehicles and fix the issue before it more fatalities, as proven in their earlier 2014-2015 recall. They just did a recall about a year ago for Impala's having an issue where the ignition switch would then switch into the off position while driving if you hit a bump too hard and had too much weight on your keys. I got my vehicle serviced for that recall issue but it seems like their fix for that was incorrect and not the issue seeing as my vehicle, and several others, still shuts down while driving and the ignition is still in the on (not off) position, you lose acceleration and steering. This is extremely dangerous and will cause more deaths, injuries, and accidents. Please get this to gm and have them correct this issue in all their models with sensor throttle body's instead of wired ones. They also need to fix the issue of door and a/c accuators in their models, as its been described to me as a common issue in gm models. This is a very unsafe issue for all drivers gm or not. More accidents will follow.

Takata recall. It happen to me twice I got two kids the car lost power from 45 to ten. Engine light is on. The code thst comes up is p2138 this is not ok needs to get fixed. First time it happen I was on a highway the car behind me almost hit me due to the engine power loss.

I got a jump after the engine light came on. Took it to get ichecked they say its my ecm. What is that and is it related to that electrical recall. I was in park.

Reduced engine power message. This message came up after have car at mechanics for a repair on actuator. We took back to mechanic and he cleared message however message has appeared after a week of driving car less than 10 miles per day. Mechanic said possible fix resulting in another $300 repair. The message came up while doing local driving around town less than 5 miles before it will appear.

The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer gregg young Chevrolet 17750 burt st, omaha, ne 68118 (402) 509-3028. Twice but they were unable to diagnose the issue. The vehicle was also taken to another the dealer huber Cadillac 11102 w Dodge rd, omaha, ne 68154 (402) 496-5400 after a crash. They determined that only the bumper and headlight were cracked. They could not diagnose the hesitation issue. There was a police report filed, there were injuries to the contact and other driver who were both were taken to the hospital. The vehicle lurched forward and crashed into another vehicle after it turned in front of the contact. The crash was a t bone collision. Since then independent mechanics have replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, a new coil , and a new fuel injector (replaced twice) . The issue still recurred after all of these repairs. The failure mileage was 85,000. Tf.

Hello, only had my car 2 years and nothing but problems. . My biggest concern is this light that's keeps coming on and says "engine power reduced" and kicks my cars down between 20 and 40 miles per hour. . Huge safety issue to me. I was driving with my 3 children on the highways when out of nowhere my car reduced to 20 miles on the highway!!! I was scared as well as my children and had to exit the highway as safely as possible. Now I have done some investigation about this and see many people are having the same issues how horrible. Why is there not a recall for this? my life and my children's lives are a factor and it's terrifying that nothing is getting done about this but is known by the makers of this vehicle. . Please I would like some answers and something done about this. I am a nurse out here saving lives everyday and I can't just afford to keep trying to fix a problem with a car that nobody has a real answer on why it's doing this. I have no option to still drive this vehicle as well as many other hard working people who have spent their hard working money on these vehicles and company. (reduced engine power) my 2008 chevy Impala randomly shows down after the dash reads reduced engine power. I am lucky to be alive I was doing about 60 on the expressway and the car speed just dropped to 20mph I had to swerve because the car behind could not slow down in time. My two year old was in the car and I hear that gm cars have this problem all the time. This is ridiculously dangerous someone has to do something about it. The gm dealership has no ideal how to fix this.

While I was driving my car, about to accelerate, all of a sudden, a "service traction control" message came on and seconds after that, there was a "engine power is reduced" message. At this point there was some hesitation in the vehicle. I pulled over and shut the car off. When I turned the car on, after 2 minutes, I received the same message. I took the vehicle to my mechanic, and he couldn't find anything wrong with it. I called my locale gm dealer and for a "nominal" charge, they would take a look at it. Since then, I have researched it on line, and have found that there have been numerous complaints about the same issue. It is a shame that gm has done nothing to fix this. I'm glad I was not on the highway when this happened, as the loss of speed and lack of acceleration could have caused an accident.

Traction control needs service message displayed, then throttle disabled message displayed shutting the engine off going down the road. So therefor no power steering, brakes etc . Once pulled onto shoulder car would not crank. Had to wait five minutes until the gauges flickered and then car was able to be restarted. This is highly dangerous if not where to pull off or being followed closely. Not to mention not power steering assist or brake assist. This could very easily cause a crash and there for should be a recall issued before people are injured or killed by this!.

I was driving down the street and out of nowhere the engine light came on and said engine reduced power. The car seemed to slow down and not have power. If I came to a stop and began to drive again, the car barely accelerated and the transmission jerked every single time it shifted. I had every car going around me down the busy street, because the car would barely go. I was worried I wouldn't even make it home and that the transmission was going to have serious problems along with the engine as it jerked roughly with every gear change. This is something that needs to be recalled immediately! it couldn't have happened at a worse time, as I just purchased this car a few weeks ago, have my first child on the way, and just got a house.

I have had this reduced engine power/service traction control message before with this car. A few years ago I had it cut off on me in the middle of a side street. Thankfully it wasn't a busy street. But I've never felt threatened until this morning. I came to an intersection of a busy highway when I got the message. I needed to cross over to the other side. As I began to cross I was in the cross-hairs of a trash truck on one side and a car on the other. I tried to floor it but my car didn't respond as normal. It truly was reduced! thankfully all the other vehicles performed as they should.

The reduced power light came on while I was driving. I checked online and it seems like a lot of people are having this problem. It is a major concern because it will slow your vehicle down if your going at high speeds.

According to various blogs on the internet gm is ignoring this life threatening defect. I would pay for a fix but there doesn't seem to be one at this time. I will give a chevy dealer a chance to make it right but am not holding my breath.

I started my car and the rpm's went to 0. Message stated "service traction control" and engine power reduced". When I looked up information online I noticed many people had the same problem with chevy/gm cars.

Vehicle out of the blue says "reducing engine speed" and then car slows down and can not speed up in traffic cars about to run over me wonder will this happen on the highway?.

I was going 65 mph on the freeway and out of nowhere my engine went into power reduce mode without warning and I almost got rear ended bad with my child in the car with me. I did get tapped from behind but really nothing major but it could have been worse thank god I was able to walk away from that. Mind you I just picked my car up that Friday from the Chevrolet dealership they changed the throttle body and still the same problem. Now this is the second time I picked my car up from the Chevrolet dealership for the same problem. The first time they tried to tell me it was the battery. This is a very dangerous issue I'm having and it shouldn't be taken lightly. It seems that many people are having the same problem and innocent peoples lives are getting put in danger for no reason. . . . . Please help. . . . . Thank you.

I was driving and all of a sudden my engine light came on and a message popped on my dash board that said enging power reduced. This is about the 10th time or more that this has happened to me. After google searching the problem, there are hundreds of people having this same issue witj their chevy Impala. There needs to be a recall on this!!! no one should have to come out of their pocket.

I was turning in my driveway off of the main road and the car seemed to cut off. The first thing that I noticed was that I had to struggle to turn the wheel as I was trying to avoid a cement post on the side of my driveway. I got it in the driveway while basically coasting, and I noticed some lights on in the dash. I put the vehicle in park and proceeded to start it.

So im drving down the expressway i57 at about 85mph and the car beeps 3 times displaying service stabilatrack/ service traction and check engine seconds later the car completely cut off. While in traffic.

This is the third time this has happened to me and luckily not while traveling on a highway. I am getting a traction control loss with reduced power light on that actually powers down the engine. I have been able to shut the car off and clear the light and it works o. K. But that is not a permanent fix. This problem with these vehicles has been well documented hundreds of times on forums all over the internet and why has gm done nothing about this? someone is going to die or seriously become injured due to this defect, I hope to god it is not me!!! this is really a problem if you are traveling at a high rate and speed and the engine decides to power down. I want this addressed ASAP before we are reading and hearing about another fatality at the hands of gm!!!!.

I was driving in the rain on my way to work on a highway. With out warning my steering locks up, my battery light and engine lights turn on. Along with this my cars temp goes through the roof. This is happening at 65 mph its 3 am I can no longer see or control my vehicle. Thanks to my skilled driving I was able to pull the car over. I can't figure out what is wrong with my car I've had a professional look at it he doesn't know what do over than replace parts and do trial and error. Im lucky to be alive every time I drive in the rain but its not me that I'm worried about. I don't want anybody to get hurt or killed due to my steering locking up.

Without warning, an engine power reduced notice appears, and the vehicle slows down from 65 mph to under 20 mph.

Service traction control/engine power reduced lights came on dash. Car lost all power and when stomping the gas pedal speed would resume, very hesitant from a dead stop. Car was jerking, shut off traction control and car jerked then too. Gm needs to fix this before there are deaths. Also I have no unlocking doors. They have to all be manually unlocked. Battery was replaced in car and on key fab. Gas pedal sensor and throttle body sensor are the triggered codes, gm needs to find the real solution as these don't seem to fix problem.
