Engine Shut Off Without Warning problems of the 2008 Chevrolet Impala

Randomly I receive the meesage "service traction control - engine power reduced" - there is no rhyme or reason. It happens on nice days, rainy days, whether or not I am going uphill, downhill or on flat surfaces. On at least one occasion while driving on the highway, the engine shut off and I had to coast from lane 2 to the shoulder. After 20 minutes, it restarted.

Driving on highway @ 60 mph when engine dies with no warning. Dash shows following messages: "engine power reduced" "serivce traction control" "service stabilitrax" power steering and power brakes stop working. When car key is turned off and check engine codes are cleared, the car starts up fine and continues to run smoothly. Luckily I was able to safely stop the car (albeit on the middle of a major highway), turn it off, clear the codes, and start it back up to get out of the way. Same problem happened in January 2018. After this I took it to a chevy dealer. They said car was covered under "warranty" for this problem and they replaced the throttle body. One month later same problem keeps occurring. Car runs fine but these messages appear about once a month. Typically the engine stays on and is only limited in power. However, occasionally the car will die completely without warning, even on the highway. Had car brought to chevy dealer. They said they can not fix the problem unless it is currently occurring with the car. They recommended I take the car and bring it back to them when the problem happens again. However, I do not feel safe driving this car knowing the engine could just shut down at any moment and the chevy specialist themselves do not seem to even have a clue about what could be causing this.

While I was driving, the car gave a notice of reduced engine power, then a few miles later, another notice came on service throttle disabling service. And the car shut off! with no warning, and no way to get to safety. If I wasn't in an area that had a shoulder I could get to quickly or if there was any traffic near me, I would be dead! this is incredibly unsafe and is going to get someone killed, if it hasnt already! that has to be some sort of flaw in the programing. If I would have been on the highway, which is where I normally am at that time of day, I would have had no time to react and get to a safe area before the car shut down on me. It also locked up the steering wheel and braking system so I had next to no power. It was incredibly scary. I am just glad that I was driving the car, instead of my elderly mother. She very well may have had a heart attack from the fear. In no way should a car just shut down mid-drive like that! I cant even begin to explain the amount of ways how badly that could go wrong, and this seems to be a common issue with chevy vehicles and the throttle body. Even if the throttle body is going bad, in no way should your car be programed to just shut off mid-drive, ever. I really hope that is a programing flaw and not intentional, because if that is intentional, you are truly trying to kill people. What is it going to take for chevy/gm to get the issue fixed? how many people getting killed in unnecessary accidents is it going to take? I pray that myself or my family isn't one of them! please chevy/gm, get this issue fixed already.

While driving message reduced engine power is displayed along with throttle disabled message, engine shuts off, making vehicle difficult to steer. Left my wife stranded in middle of road. Car restarts after approx. 15 min and displays orange engine light. Took to webbs texaco in lakeland, FL and they say it has a bad ecm. Previously shut off at 70 mph on interstate.

Throttle disable light comes on and the engine shuts down, including steering. This has happened twice. The first time was January of 2014, speed was approximately 50 mph. We were able to steer the car into a neighborhood and after about 30-40 minutes, the engine started again. This happened again yesterday, in a much more dangerous situation. I was entering a highway with traffic travelling at and above posted speed of 70 mph. As I merged, the throttle disabled light flashed on and the engine immediately shut down. Luckily I was able to steer the car onto the shoulder. I truly feel my life was in danger. The vehicle started after about 30 minutes of me sitting on the very busy shoulder of this highway.

The service traction control light comes on and the engine power reduced messesge appears. The entire car shuts down and you can not accelerate. I was on the freeway and could have been hit from behind. I immediately put on my hazard lights and pulled off to the side of the road. This was the first time, happened again this month(March). Taking to chevy dealer for a diagnosis.

I own a 2008 chevy Impala which has been having computer problems for 1 yr now. It reads out reduced engine power and the car wont go faster than 40 mph. Ive had it fixed but then comes right back up, one mechanic says to clean the throttle and another says its sensors. This is becoming quite a problem and nobody can fix it permanently. It is a serious saftey issue due to the fact that I transport grandchildren around and the car looses power out of nowhere,then just shuts down in the middle of traffic. I cant keep paying all this money for it to just happen over and over with no results. When is this going to be on the recall list? I went online to find out there are alot of other people having the same exact issue. Please help me? I cant afford to keep paying for this when its never actually been fixed. I have no problem paying to have my car fixed but I do when I have to pay over and over again and its still not fixed.

Hit a deer on the right passenger fender and the car shut down, steering wheel locked, spun and unable to control car, was unable to move car, stalled on highway for 1 hour. Car engine started but unable to move. Almost hit a truck in the opposite direction, due to inability to stop and use steering wheel.

My Impala will completely shut down and lock up everytime it rains. I can be driving 5 mph through a parking lot and water film on the pavement and my Impala will shake, lock up and shut down. I was leaving my church parking lot to turn right onto road, my Impala shut down and drifted straight across the street almost landing in the ditch. Thank god there was no oncoming traffic. It has happen while driving 35 and car shut down. It is very terrifying to drive a car that shuts down and have no control over. I have small children and am fearful my and their safety.

Our company owns a 2008 chevy Impala that will shut off for no reason. Sometimes, after the driver puts the car into 'drive' or 'reverse' from park the engine rpms surge, the radio gets louder and the car shuts off. It has surged and then died while going down the road at 50+ miles per hour. It has died while in drive but stopped a stop light/sign. The driver has to put the car back into park and the car starts. This has happened numerous times and the local dealership has not been able to fix it. It is a serious hazard.
