Airbag light stays on and it has a airbag message on the dash the ignition switch doesn't work the car won't turn over.
This problem includes more items than your form allows me to check. It stated out about 7 months ago when you would be driving down the road and the service stable tract and service traction control light would come on causing the engine power to be reduced which is an annoence but is also a safety issue is you are passing someone on a two lane road when it happens and you can not complete the pass due to reduced power. If you pulled off to the side of the road and shut the car off the service lights would go away and may not come on again for weeks. This problem went away after a couple of months and then the car started a new one with a no crank, no start problem which when this would happen you would get up to three warning lights, (service table trac, service traction control, and service air bags) with time the no crank, no start problem kept coming and going and the only light that came on when it wouldn't crank or start was the service air bag light. If you kept trying to start it after 3 to 30 times it would start and run fine and may not act up again for 1 day or even up to a week. A couple of weeks ago I had my wife switch cars with me as this was the car she drove to work daily and I didn't want her to get stranded. I am so glad I did that as the very first day I drove it to work on my way home while driving down the highway the car shut off for no reason and the service air bag light came on, I lost my power steering and power brakes and again I could have been in very big trouble if this would have happened when I was trying to pass another car and I don't think the air bags will deploy with the service air bag light on. I reported the to Chevrolet and they told me trying to fix it would be at my cost since it is out of warranty. The local dealer and found that they have been trying for 3 days to find a no crank, no start on a corvet with no luck.
I took the car to hank graff Chevrolet in davison, mi for warranty work and the service airbag soon light was on. They replaced seatbelt tensioner on the passenger seat and the light remained off for a month. Now the light is on again and the car is out of warranty. I believe that gm should stand behind these safety mechanisms regardless of any warranty. I was told that in the event of a crash the airbags would not deploy if the warning light is on, yet I absolutely refuse to pay for a problem with a safety device intended to last the lifetime of the car. Gm cannot ignore faulty safety equipment like they ignored the faulty ignition switches.
When trying to start this vehicle it will not crank over. The lights on the dash light up and the proper noises as if your starting your car come on; however the service airbag sign comes across my dash and the car will not crank over. I tried to use the keyless entry and this does not work either. I have placed a passenger in the front passenger side of vehicle and after leaving the ignition switch to on for a few minutes the car will then crank over. It will either start or just crank over and act as though it will start. If it does not start the first attempt I wait several more minutes and mess around getting in and out of the passenger seat. It will crank over and start. After reading several complaints on. . . Read more...
Air bag alarm light turned on and was alarming for more than one week, electrical connector issues were diagnoised by the dealership, dealership identified fretting failures. Chevrolet dealership acknowleded that my vehicle is a target for ignition switch update however they informed me that no resolution to the ignition switch for my vehicle would be honored for my car. Neither was there any further explanation for resolution nor was there any recommended safe resolution for me to execute.
I was involved in a violent, jarring collision on June 26, 2014 with an SUV in las vegas, nv. I was rear-ended by a Toyota rav 4. I sustained significant injuries, & my car suffered substantial damage, which resulted in my vehicle being deemed a total loss. The engine automatically shut off & the vehicle airbags did not deploy because the ignition switch moved out of the run position, turning off the engine. The gm provided remedy was not made available until September 2014.
Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle. As a result, the contact crashed into a guard rail and rolled over. The air bags did not deploy and the vehicle failed to restart. The contact did not disclose if a police report was filed or not. The contact sustained whiplash all over the body that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, who diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 14v355000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available. Djr.
We purchased a used 2009 chevy Impala around February 2014. Within a week of driving it we started hearing a loud clicking noise anytime we unlocked the doors or cut on the heat but everything seemed to be working fine so we just dealt with noise. I did look online only to find tons of people with the same problem and I also had multiple friends who said nearly every Impala like mine they had been in made that same noise, wow! seriously? but me being the chevy lover, I just saw it as a minor issue maybe missed in production but not really a safety hazard. Then a couple of months later that seems to have went away but now it takes about 2 minutes to get the ac to switch from defrost to blowing out of the dash vents. You can still hear it on, but it doesn't actually start blowing for about 2 minutes. Still, not a big deal. Then I was driving about 15mph(near a school) when a low oil pressure power off engine light came on and went off quickly, I pulled over and cut the car off and back on, no more issues. A few days later my service air bag light started coming on randomly, hmm, so if that light is on will my air bags deploy if needed? not sure. . . Then I get alarms that someone in the passenger seat was not buckled in, but there was no one in the passenger seat. Then my car starts cutting off randomly while I'm driving. This morning I backed out of my driveway and it just cut off leaving me in the middle of the street for a few minutes with no way for other cars to get around me. . . . It would have been terrible if I was pulling out and another car sped around the corner. Then there is a recall notice sent to me stating I should remove everything from my key due to ignition failure recall. I saw on cbs you could request a free loaner vehicle until parts came in but the dealer only offered me a rental at 300/wk. Wow, thanks gm for caring about our safety.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Impala. While driving on the highway, the vehicle experienced reduced engine power and stalled. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact also mentioned that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact experienced a similar failure three years ago. The vehicle was taken to mcdermott Chevrolet where it was diagnosed that the failure was attributed to NHTSA campaign number: 14v355000 (electrical system). The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact also took the vehicle to the same dealer because the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The contact believed that the indicator was illuminated due to NHTSA campaign number: 16v507000 (air bags, electrical system). The technician informed the contact that the failure was not due to the recall and refused to pay for the repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.
My vehicle's ignition switch shut off, which caused me to lose steering. When I crashed, the airbag failed to deploy. I was driving in a large parking lot and went over a speed bump. I was knocked out but the police report indicated there were no signs of braking or steering. I took my Impala to the gm dealership over 12 times.
We have owned this car since it was new and the airbag light never stay off after so many repairs we see no hope of it being repair. Chevrolet is doing another cover up just like the ignition switch. We have spent over 700 on repairs only to still have the airbag light on.
