There is a known issue with the shift lock release. The cable will fail in many 2006-2013 Impala's. The vehicle will not get out of park. Another well known issue is the blend door actuator. It is a noise that comes from the dash/heating/cooling due to chevy using cheap plastic parts.

Failure Date: 11/25/2018

I live in memphis TN. I leased a vehicle from ifinance in nesbit, ms. After getting vehicle towed by them I called to inform them of leak and clunking noises coming from under vehicle. So, as im driving in my apartment complex with my kids I loose power of steering wheel and almost crash with a parked car. After stopping I inspect the vehicle I notice the motor and frame is partially loosened from car, also noticed a screw broke under frame which holds bottom carriage to car frame,it was laying under vehicle, after I stopped thus disabled steering ,it turns freely no wheel play, and I almost wrecked in apartment complex because motor came partially loosened. I cant drive the vehicle and now it has to be towed home and towed again to their lot to be repaired.

3 Steering problem

Front wheel locking up while making a turn. Car dash warning lights are flashing.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

Air bag sensor has been tripped for the past 7 months, I have researched this recall, and it looks like the wiring harness might be the only thing that needs to be replaced. However, whenever, I put in my VIN number, there aren't any recalls for this. Also, I have received a letter about the gas sensor possibly being bad, however, when I took it into a chevy dealer to have it fixed, they refused to. They told me that the check engine light wasn't on, and that I had to wait until it failed before they would fix it! failure of this sensor means, it could fail in an intersection, or while I am passing someone, or whatever, this is a safety concern!!! I am very unhappy that they wouldn't fix it. Now, my check engine light is on, however, it is because another sensor is bad! the evc sensor now has to be fixed. The airbag sensor was tripped while I was driving on the hwy at 70 mph on a warm day of 80 f or so. The evc sensor tripped overnight when I started the car in the morning. The gas pedal sensor has been a problem for 3 years because chevy dealers refuse to fix it. These concerns are in addition to the other mechanical fixes that I have had to do on a car that has less than 87,000 miles on it! I am feeling like I have a lemon of a car and that this Impala is the worst car on the market. I have had several chevy products, and have never experienced problems like this. What happened to the great products that chevy once produced???.

13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2013

2010, Chevrolet Impala. On a routine trip to the bank, my steering wheel locked and my gear shift would not move into a drive position. The vehicle started fine, but would not go into gear. I took the console and gear shift lever apart and found a snapped wire in the wiring harness. After an exhaustive search, I found that the Impala has been experiencing this issue at least since 2006. The issue is allegedly caused by the constant movement of the gear shift lever, causing one or more of the wires in the harness to break. An investigation of the costly repair and on-going issue from Chevrolet is in order.

14 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2013

This has happened on numerous occasions. While driving my vehicle will turn off. Sometimes me vehicle will have trouble starting. Turning the key will not engage the stater, there will be no attempt of the motor to turn over. This continues to happen even after the removal of all key rings from the ignition key. Today (11/18/14), my Impala died while driving and the engine light turned on. The code stated that there was a faulty ignition switch.

15 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

I own a 2010 Chevrolet Impala. I have had my housing gear replaced and other suspension items in the last year. Since my last major job (housing gear), the car has been making a click when turning the wheel and when going up hill. When the car is going uphill and shifting gears it make a click/pop sound. I have taken my car to the chevy dealer and they constantly act as though they can not hear the sound, which makes it so easy for them to not repair. I have taken my car in for this over 5 times and leave with the problem still being. On two of those occasions they found other issues which resulted in the warranty paying for the problems. My warranty includes a $100 deductible. So I have paid a deductible to get one problem fixed and it has not been repaired to date. I am truly frustartaed, as I am not a mechanic and need my car fixed. I drive a toddler around daily. I feel insecure with my cars driveability. My car needs to be fixed.

16 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2012

I was driving to work, nearly at the end of a 50 mile trip, the car was functioning normally with no abnormal noises or indications of problems. I drove the car into the parking lot and was making a slight right turn, traveling at about 15 mph, when suddenly the car screeched to an immediate halt and stalled the engine. The sudden stop was violent and threw me against my seatbelt. I moved the gear selector lever from drive to park and restarted the engine without any trouble. The engine ran smooth and without any unusual noise. I put the car into drive, but it would not move and it made loud grinding and clunking sounds. I put the car in reverse, but still it would not move and again made loud noises. I put the car in neutral and a friend came over to help me push the car to a more safe area, but still the car would not move. Apparently the drivetrain was locked up and would not move, no matter what gear position the transmission was in. The car was later dragged on to a flatbed truck and taken to my local auto service center, where they determined the transmission was bad. The vehicle was then towed to my local Chevrolet dealer to be fixed under the gm 100,000mi/5 year powertrain warranty. I am very shaken up by this incident and fear what would have happen if the vehicles front wheels would have violently locked up like this at highway speeds. I fear the result would have been a total loss of control of the vehicle and possibly severe injury or even death to myself and others. I hope gm and the NHTSA investigate this incident and find the cause of the transmission failure with the goal of preventing this from happening again before someone gets hurt or killed.

17 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2012

I was driving and the car shut off. No brakes, no power steering, nothing. . . . . I coasted to the side of the road, put it in park, took the key out of the ignition, put it back in and the car started. Now I am scared to put my 5 month old in the car because it is not safe.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Impala. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle began to slowly and abnormally drift to the right. The contact had to abruptly hold the steering wheel and pull to the left in order to control the steering. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a front alignment was performed yet the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer a second time and the tires were rotated. The contact continued to experience the failure and took the vehicle back to the dealer where the tires were replaced but to no avail. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that because they were unable to diagnose the failure, they could not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 200.
