3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/25/2016

I just bought this 2002 chevy Impala for my son for his graduation. The previous owners seem to take great care of this car and the only issue it had was the gas gauge was not accurate. It fluctuates between full and empty. This week it seems to be stuck on full, but every now and then come down to empty then right back to full . We have my son drive my younger boys back and forth to school and he drives long distances to go to his army trainings. It has become an issue for him to remember how much gas is in the tank. And has become a worry for me that he might get stranded somewhere due to no gas. After reviewing the complaints it sounds like we are not the only ones with this issue. Hope the manufacturer does something about this soon.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

Driving 55 mph on the interstate noticed that I hadn't filled up in a while yet the fuel gauge still read "completely full". Filled up at gas station took 3/4 of a tank. Gauge has been alternating between full and completely empty for a month. Could have run out of gas at speed on interstate causing accident internet research has uncovered a few incidents like that. Chevy support is willing to waive the 50 dollar diagnostic fee but will not cover repairs. Local garage quoted 250 labor 160 part to replace fuel gauge sensor in the tank, but from online research past years have seen instrument cluster failures in fuel gauge, speedometer and engine temp. Car has 50800 miles on it is four years old and may require repairs 400-2k depending on which part is failure. Previous gm products have had class action lawsuits for similar issues. This is a safety issue as the gauge fails and the check engine light took 25 days to come on with the error code in the 460's that the sensor was bad. Currently driving vehicle with broken fuel gauge and submitting complaints talking with support to try to get them to cover repairs.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 04/03/2014

I have a 2000 Impala with approximately 161,000 miles on it. The car is used and I am the 2nd owner. I went to have my normal oil change as I had noticed the low engine oil pressure light had come on. The car had been running out of oil frequently, but I didn't see any oil leaks. The print out after the oil change stated multiple oil leaks. But there was never any oil on the ground. The car had been running very rough and was staring to run warmer than usual. Not hot, but past the middle line on the temp gauge. And I had noticed a burning smell after driving, but never saw any smoke. This all started in April 2014 and has been ongoing. I've taken the car to a repair shop and nobody seems to know what's going on. Now July 5,2014 I went to turn left and the steering wheel was extremely hard to turn. I had to put a lot of muscle into turning the wheel. I checked the power steering fluid and saw it was low so I topped it off. Problem should have been fixed right? wrong. It got worse. I took it to a different repair shop and was told it was the tensioner pulley. O'er $100 later, the problem has gotten worse. When I turn left the wheel stays stuck and I have to jerk it back straight. Thus is a safety hazard as I transport my family in this vehicle. Since these problems stared the car eats a lot of gas. Going 5 miles should not use almost a quarter tank of gas and the check engine light comes on and stays on at random times, during theses times the car eats a lot if gas. When the light is not on gas mileage is ok. This is very dangerous.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

My chevy impalla few months I filled up up with gas all the way and when I go t on the interstate the fuel gauge wen down from full to half full of gas . This is very dangerous because no mechanic knows what seems to be the problem and it is very dangerous because I really don't know how much gas I have in the car. It can turn to empty tank in 20 miles of distance . When I add up more gas to it it turns back to full. I need a solution. I have a small children and one vehicle to travel from home to work.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Impala

Failure Date: 09/13/2012

The gas gauge needle and digital readout are off. Going 55 mph and the car just died in traffic. Gauge read 1/4 mile and digital readout showed 70 miles left. Topped off gas in tank to try and monitor and ran out of fuel again going by needle and digital readout. 74 miles left, just shy of 1/4 tank on needle. Now using trip mile feature to not be fooled by gauge and needle. "half tank" rule is now being used.
