Chevrolet Impala owners have reported 58 problems related to seats (under the seats category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Impala based on all problems reported for the Impala.
Passenger side front seat. When occupied, airbag sensor located inside the seat is malfunctioning. My husbands safety is at risk when he's in the car. He tries moving the seat up, back, etc. Sometimes works and the airbag sensor works. We are fearing that if there were any accident or need, that his life would be in danger if the airbag didn't deploy. This shouldn't be at the consumers expense as this is a safety issue. This has been ongoing for over 6 months.

Recall # 36110. Our car is having the same issues that are indicated with this recall but gm refuses to include our vehicle in this recall. Front passenger seat sensor is shorting out against the seat frame which is turning vital passenger airbags off. Unsure when this actually started as my daughter drives this car to work and didnt notice when it first appeared.

The automatic occupant sensing (aos) system fails to suppress the front passenger air bag with no passenger in the seat. The airbag on light stays on. There is no code triggered in the system. This also causes the unbuckled passenger seatbelt warning to chime with no passenger in the seat.

This car has exactly the same issues as reported in 15v465000 but Chevrolet refuses to acknowledge that this VIN should have been in their recall. The aos systems in this Impala is improperly calibrated. My child in the front seat could be seriously injured. Chevrolet themselves verified this 2014 Impala has front vented-heated passenger seats. They still refuse to help in any way. This car does not turn the front passenger airbag on and off when it detects (or fails to detect) an adult occupant in that seat.
About a week ago I got in my car and started driving. As I started going down the road the passengers side alarm for the seatbelt kept going off and I noticed the passenger side airbag had turned on as well. I was in my car alone and had nothing sitting in the passengers seat nor a passenger in my car. That was the first time it lasted my whole drive to work (about 13 miles) but made me think of past times my vehicle had done that as well a few weeks before that the same thing happened and I had to connect the seatbelt to make it stop. I didn’t think much of it at first and thought it was a one-off kinda thing till it became a pattern of sorts. This morning I started my car and the dash kept telling me to “service airbags” I just bought my vehicle from national auto sales in spokane washington the previous February of this year (2022) and only drive to work (13 miles) and back for the most part. Seeing the “service airbag” light on in my car was concerning because I don’t know what that means. As I looked further into things I found a recall for my vehicle for the passenger side airbags malfunctioning, recall #36110 to replace wiring in the seat. So I called gm and they couldn’t find a recall for my vehicle. I then called knudtsen Chevrolet in post falls idaho expecting it to get taken care of. The guy from the service department looked up my VIN and told me my vehicle had already been serviced in the past for this passenger side airbag recall issue at another dealership and the work had already been completed and closed so there was nothing they would be willing to do except make an appointment and pay 145. 00$ for them to diagnose the situation. I explained that the recall was for the very same thing that’s happening in my vehicle right now and that was unsafe if my airbags were malfunctioning. That if they fixed it in the past why am I dealing with that exact recall issue with my airbags now? I don’t have money to pay for something that was supposed to be fixed.
The service airbag light comes on in the dash. Whether someone is in the passenger seat or not, the light came one and it stays on most of the time. I looked up recalls for my VIN, and it wasn’t included in the previous recall. (recall number 36110 passenger presence sensor and instrument cluster) but it has the same issue as all of the other 2009 Chevrolet Impalas recalled for the same exact thing. I purchased this car in December 2020 from the state of michigan so I am the second owner. My VIN should be covered under the recall. I need it fixed and it’s no okay that as dealership won’t cover my vehicle and it has the same issue. Why didn’t Chevrolet just recall all of this year, regardless of VIN? gm saving money at the cost of mine and my families safety is not okay!.

Passenger front seat presence sensor says someone is sitting in the seat even when empty. Also seat belt warning light and audible alert is affected. I occasionally have four small children in the vehicle which is concerning because the airbag could go off when a child is sitting in the front seat.

Gm had sent a letter in March 2020 about a known defect with the passenger presence module that wires could become disconnected over time, leading to a service airbag message and the passenger airbag failing to deploy when commanded. Gm stated that they would provide additional protection (read extended warranty) on this condition to be repaired at no cost within 8 years of the date the vehicle was placed in service or 80000 miles, whichever was first. My 2014 Impala just had this issue occur on July 4, 2021, and when requesting gm to perform this repair at no cost for me (vehicle mileage is 77000 miles), gm stated that this extended warranty ended January 2021. This date does not match the 8 years called out in the letter they sent, as the general public couldn't even buy this vehicle until April 1, 2013 at the very earliest. Gm refuses to pay for the fix of a known defect within a critical safety system on one of their vehicles due to a poor design. Conveniently, this issue occurred on my Impala ~1-2 months after the supposed end of coverage date, even though there is nothing documenting why this date was chosen or any data that supports that this issue will only occur inside of the quoted extended warranty window in the letter. Gm needs to issue a recall on this rather than an extended warranty that doesn't cover a known defect within their design/manufacturing.
The air conditioner tube was off inside the vehicle and caused massive leaking in the carpets. Causing mold to grow excessively under the floor mats, in the carpets, under the seats, etc. Which as a result led to electrical issues. It’s being looked into by a senior member at gm for months now, nothing is being done. Radley chevy in fredricksburg virginia hasn’t done anything for us either. My family is now having respiratory issues due to the mold issue.

I've been having crazy electrical problems with my Impala 2009 when I push the button to move my chair my light flickers on and off and when I start my car it shakes in the hood also.
When I sit in the drivers seat, the service air bag warning pops up. I have to raise my seat and then lower it in order to get the warning light to go off.
On 16th July 2020 while driving bell sounds went off in my car, on dash airbag warning came on and got an onstar alert that airbag malfunction. Onstar said to get it to dealership ASAP. Yesterday 20th July dealership told me that front passenger seat airbag module, front passenger airbag plate in seat and something else airbag is wrong. Told me not covered under warranty in which since it is a 2018 I couldn't believe it. They said because have 62,000 miles is why. I said this is a safety issue they acknowledged that but said I would need to have it repaired which would cost $1300 without taxes. I called general motors and have a case number. However, not gm nor the dealership nesmith Chevrolet, Buick, GMC seem to feel this should be a recall or a safety issue that they should be liable for!.
Freighted: airbag warning on dash came on, bells started making nose in car and got onstar alert that airbag malfunction to get it to dealership ASAP. Even if push dismiss button comes back on. Called dealership and got an appointment: today dealership says it is issue with airbag sensors in passenger seat and passenger side airbag. Tells us it is not covered under warranty and no recalls for this. We have called gm today also and have a case number.
The gasket on a rear light deteriorated causing a leak in the trunk of the car. First addressed it with the dealership in the fall of 2019. They said they couldn't find anything. Happened again as covid began. When the dealership was able, they tried to repair the car and to remove the mold that had grown & did an ionizing treatment. They said it didn't work. Asked us to contact chevy customer service. We've been waiting since may 8 for resolution to the mold issue. The car is now beyond repair. We've sent numerous emails and called repeatedly. They've assured us that they would get back to us by this past Monday, July 20 and they have not. Due to the mold, the car is unsafe to drive. They have yet to send someone to the dealership to even look at the car. The owner of this car is an 88 year old man with stage 4 cancer and is fighting kidney failure. He needs this car for appointments and treatments. Chevy is aware of this. We need help, please.
When someone sits in the passenger seat the air bag light comes on. This has been going on in the both of the Impala's that we have had. This is the second one different year.

I was driving at night coming to a sudden fall out of nowhere it was thick put my brakes on the slowdown next thing you know I'm coming up on the tree I looked at the speedometer 45 miles an hour best to try to hit it head-on but it's going up into a hill so. To the right side of the bumper passenger side put a chain on the bumper to the tree so I can pull the bumper out of my tire and pull my truck to safety and parking lot cross street and call tow truck the truck frame was bent 2 in out of frame I had a couple body shops look at it I'll get that estimates but a lot of damage switch on fixing unless you find something wrong my brakes which I think there is knowing my luck I got one of those brake sensors you recalled.

The passenger side seat pressure(?) switch in seat for air bag, constantly goes off indicating there is someone sitting there, when in fact there is no one or a piece of paper on the seat. It started out as a rare occurrence but is now pretty much switching on all the time, either at car start up or in the middle of driving. If it didn't dingle, warning the passenger isn't buckled it wouldn't be a huge deal, but still wouldn't need it to deploy in an accident when there isn't a passenger.

Tl the contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Impala. While driving various speeds, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to coughlin gm of marysville (15801 us-36, marysville, OH 43040, (937) 644-9000) where the contact was informed that the passenger seat sensor was defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,000.
I took my car in for the last recall for the passanger air bag sensor it did not turn the light off and the dealer says ther is a differant issue with it and that's why the airbag light is on. I couldn't tell you what they did as far as taping the wires or replacing the sensor. But I feel like they did nothing now they tell me the part is 433. 00 and labor and programing is almost 1000. 00. I see many cars have this same issue with the passanger presence sensor module. The airbag light on keeps me from getting the car inspected. Basically if you sit in my passanger side front seat it can't recognize anyone sitting there. Any help would be welcome on this situation.

"service airbag" light comes on without pushing a code for error.
At around 140,000 miles I noticed my service airbag light coming on and off. Overtime it continued turning on and off staying on more frequent than being off. I brought it to the dealership for a recall that affected the airbags. They told me they just had to wrap some wires that go underneath the seat and that was it. However this did not turn my airbag light off and I have gotten no help from any dealership or online forums. I believe chevy should recall this as many other individuals with Impalas are experiencing the same issue. As to the seat problem. Where my seat comes together at the low back, it shifts and moves around. The dealership said they could fix it at $900. They said they would have to find a new seat and then put my cushions and upholstery on it.
Takata inflators, my air bag pat keeps coming on and I have taken it to the dealership to get it check and it continues to come on.

While driving and the car shuts down, when it finally starts the engine light came on, the passenger seat comes on and no one is sitting there. Ive had it checked out something about an air mass flow sensor, then the light came on about traction.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while the vehicle was operated at 35 mph, the passenger side seat caught fire. The contact saw smoke coming from the seat and then flames. The contact stated that after turning the vehicle into the off position, the fire extinguished independently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the seat heating assembly failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Airbag service message and airbag light goes on and off. Paid 269. 36 4/22/2016 so it would pass state inspection. Light stayed off for about two months, now it is giving us the same problem. Returned to dealer, said cost to repair with new harness in the drivers seat would be around 250. 00 more. The general has a huge problem here.
1) car is hard to turn stationary & while turning, steering knuckles--2) power steering whining & just started losing fluid,--3) drivers seat stopped being able to adjust to different positions--4) oil leak on engine--5) paint on trunk & surrounding area is is flaking off.
Air bag light comes on repeatedly.
I started noticing a very bad odor of mold and mildew coming from the a/c vents. I took the car into the dealer I purchased in early 2014. The dealer said they looked at it and could not find anything wrong. After I took it in again for a bad odor, they said there was a recall on the rear tail lights letting water in the trunk. A couple months later I checked the trunk and the carpet was all wet, when I checked the spare tire compartment it was 2 inches of water. I started checking everywhere and found the carpet in the front driver seat very wet. I took the car in again this time I knew it was going to be a big problem to fix, the car was now smelling so bad with mildew and mold even the service technician could hardly stand to sit in it at all. They have tried to change the underlay, and it still smells bad. The dealer says they had a gm service specialist come to the dealer to look at it. They have no solution to fix the water leaking or to get the mold out of the car. It has now been 6 weeks and I do not have my car!! I asked the dealer to please let me out of my lease so I can go get a car that actually I can use. The dealer is refusing to offer any assistance, and either is gm when I call customer support. I am now hiring an attorney and planning on taking this to the dealer and gm, as this is an major health concern at the very least to my family.
I was on my way home from work when my driverside head light went out so I stopped and bought a new bulb at the closest store when I replaced the bulb the light still didnt come back on then the dtr light also started having issues the only time you get any lights on the driver side is when you move the entire headlight assembly around then you get dim lighting so for the past couple months we havent been able to use our car at night. I keep checking for recalls but I havent seen any and we have always had problems with our dtr lighting including the ones that control our dash lights. Cause we have none they work during th eday when they want too but at night we have no lights in our dash. Also the drivers side heated seat has quit working. It all occured roughly around the same time. Nobodys been able to fix the issues.

We purchased a used 2009 chevy Impala around February 2014. Within a week of driving it we started hearing a loud clicking noise anytime we unlocked the doors or cut on the heat but everything seemed to be working fine so we just dealt with noise. I did look online only to find tons of people with the same problem and I also had multiple friends who said nearly every Impala like mine they had been in made that same noise, wow! seriously? but me being the chevy lover, I just saw it as a minor issue maybe missed in production but not really a safety hazard. Then a couple of months later that seems to have went away but now it takes about 2 minutes to get the ac to switch from defrost to blowing out of the dash vents. You can still hear it on, but it doesn't actually start blowing for about 2 minutes. Still, not a big deal. Then I was driving about 15mph(near a school) when a low oil pressure power off engine light came on and went off quickly, I pulled over and cut the car off and back on, no more issues. A few days later my service air bag light started coming on randomly, hmm, so if that light is on will my air bags deploy if needed? not sure. . . Then I get alarms that someone in the passenger seat was not buckled in, but there was no one in the passenger seat. Then my car starts cutting off randomly while I'm driving. This morning I backed out of my driveway and it just cut off leaving me in the middle of the street for a few minutes with no way for other cars to get around me. . . . It would have been terrible if I was pulling out and another car sped around the corner. Then there is a recall notice sent to me stating I should remove everything from my key due to ignition failure recall. I saw on cbs you could request a free loaner vehicle until parts came in but the dealer only offered me a rental at 300/wk. Wow, thanks gm for caring about our safety.
