Reimbursement for recall repairs made to 1997 Chevrolet Lumina. While attempting to turn into a parking lot the steering wheel locked. The vehicle was towed to a local garage. Almost three years later the consumer receives a recall related to the failure she experienced. The consumer requested reimbursement from the manufacturer but was denied because the part the technician replaced was not the part covered by recall 03v527000. The technician also replaced the power steering pump nd front brakes.

While driving in the rain, the brake pedal gets soft with 1" - 2" of free travel, the brakes fade out and the brake pedal get real hard. The dealer said that's the way Lumina brakes are. Upon my insisting, the dealer replaced the front pads and turned the rotors which improved braking in the rain. The dealer would not replace the rear pads or turn the rear rotor even though the rear rotor is stained and pitted. A chevy dealer mechanic told me that to correct the problems that my Lumina is having the brake pads have to be replaced and the rotors turned or replaced.

I bought this car used with 32,000 mi. From the beginning brakes would not grab in the rain, the brake pedal was extremely hard. The dealer said nothing was wrong and that's the way this car is. I was told that I was not use to 4 wheel disc brakes. (I drive a 4 wheel disc car at work. ) I insisted that something was wrong. Dealer turned the front rotors which did not help. I installed high performance disc pads on all four wheels which helped a lot but only for about 20000 miles. The brakes use to when they got wet. This car is unsafe in wet weather!
