1 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

2000 Chevrolet Malibu developed problems with the brakes. The brake have had to be replaced three times, 24666, 37158 and 49592 miles. The first time the manufacturer fixed them under warranty. The other times they claimed it was normal wear and tear. The last time the brakes failed the front disc pads had worn into the rotors.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2005

The brake pulsate and grind. I have had this problem for 2 yrs now. I have had the braking system completly replaced. Brake pads, rotors, calipers, master cylinder, brake fuel lines, you name it and it has been done. I replaced the brakes with gm parts. I need new brakes again. My car could not stop in time to prevent an accident. It is awful. When the calipers were installed they make clicking sounds I was told this was ok. Also, if I apply the brakes when going over bumps in the road the abs goes off.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2004

I have a 2000 chevy Malibu and it wears out brake pads on less then 10,000 miles. Gm refuses to do anything about it and blames the customer's driving habits. It is out of warranty, so there is not much I can do since gm says it is the brake pads. There has to be something else causing this to happen, but gm refuses to listen.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2003

My 2000 Chevrolet Malibu has only 77,749 miles on it. I am the original owner and purchased the car new. Since the purchase I have replaced rotors and brake pads 4 times. This is absolutely absurd. There must be some kind of a defect in the vehicle for a person to have to replace rotors and pads 4 times within the amount of mileage I have placed on my car. Never in my life have I had to do this on any other car I have owned. I have all the paperwork where these rotors have been replaced. 3 times at the dealership and the 4th time at a private auto repair shop. I wasn't sure if the dealership was doing their job correctly because of the amount of times I have this done I decided to go to a private auto repair shop.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2003

We have a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu, we have 28,000 miles on this car and we have had to replace the brakes 2 (two) times. . Once at 17000 miles and now at 28,000 they are not wearing evenly, the inside brake is wearing down before the outside. . I feel this is unsafe because it is clear I am not getting complete brake function.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2002

Brake pads and rotors replaced in sept, 2002 and again in Dec, 2002. Brakes still scrub and squeal when braking. This is a problem that general motors I have been told knows about. Why hasn't there been a recall. This makes for a bad reputation. I will never buy another Malibu and maybe not even a Chevrolet product.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2002

The pads have worn excessively over a short period of time. The exsisting problem has caused the consumer to replaced the pads 12-14 time because of grinding down to metal ( 6 inches ). The brakes and rotors are frequently failing. The dealer was notified. Nlm.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2001

I have been having problems with my brakes on my 2000 Chevrolet Malibu since I purchased my vehicle. Doug Chevrolet keeps replacing the pads and rotation of brakes. On 7/23/01 my car will be in the service department for the same repairs. I spoke to gm's customer services dept on/around 7/11/01. I was told by a customer service rep at gm, doug cheverot will have to fix the problem with my car. On 7/16/01 I was told by doug Chevrolet employer (s) gm knows there is a problem with brakes and they are not recalling Chevrolet Malibu's. I feel that with my problems I've been having with the brakes are just more than the pads and rotation of brakes. Once my car is serviced I will be filing a dispute form with GMC.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2001

Earlier brake pad failure; should get better than ~9100mi per set of front pads.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2000

I have had my Chevrolet Malibu for 2 1/2 years and have had to have my brakes fixed 3 times. The abs brakes also went out on the driver's side. I have complained several times to the dealer, who stated that Malibus just have those kinds of brakes. I have also complained to gm who also stated there was not a problem with their brake system. I strongly disagree, I don't believe I should be paying $500 for new rotors and pads and 600 for a new bearing and abs brake at 50,000.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2000

Had rotors replaced due to excessive wear. Had them replaced again at 19,000 miles. First time replaced under warranty. Replacement parts were the same as on vehicle. Manufacturer knew of problem , and had a technical service bulletin on rotors. When braking at high speed, the consumer felt brake pulsation. Both the brake pads and rotors were replaced.

I purchased my Malibu new in March 2000, by July 14 with 7078 the rotors were machined, on 10/18/00 with 12,339 miles the rotors and pads were replaced. On 3/23/01 the same were replaced with 20,311 miles and again rotors and pads replaced on 2/8/02 with 36,639 miles. The dealer advised service bulletins were issued on 10/18/00 and 3/23/01 for rotors and pads. I contacted chevy in detroit o 2/8/02 and spoke to alicia . I advised for her to do research because something is wrong.

The brakes are being replaced all the time. Chevy continues to say its just needs brake pads every three months. The front brakes sound like the car in falling apart. There has to be a problem with the complete brake system.
