Have owned vehicle for 18 months and have replaced rotors, brake pads, and calipers on 3 separate occasions. Dealer states normal wear and tear, but strange excessive heat on rotors to warp and crack each pair. Steering column shakes when brakes applied. Brake pedal goes to the floor with excessive braking distance. At other time, brake pedal is like manual braking with stiffness. Vehicle will slide at normal braking on asphalt. Quick defensive braking causes consumer to have difficulty maintaining lane due to violent shaking of steering column and brake pedal. Calipers grabbing rotors when brake pedal applied causing immediate jerk right or left in the steering wheel. Dt.
I feel the disc brake rotors fail too rapidly and the pulsating could lead to complete brake system failute, better components should be used.
Front brake pads and rotors replaced at 24,500 miles. Outside pads not touched, inside pads completely gone. No warranty on this. Said it was normal wear and tear.
No summary listed for above vehicle.
Although the dealer says that the brakes are designed to produce a slight clicking noise when the pads begin to wear, no such noise was heard. With only 23,450 miles on car, the pads on one side of the rotor wore down cutting grooves into that side of the rotor while pads on other side of same rotor had a way to go before being worn down. I understand this same problem occurred on the Chevrolet s10 and for which the s10 was recalled. Dealer said it is not uncommon for rotors to go bad soon as pads wear out on the Malibu. It is ridiculous to have to pay for rotors each time the pads go bad, especially at only 23,000 miles.
Brake pads have been replaced 4 times since 14,000 miles. The rotors vibrate and shimmy when applying the brakes. Trying to get the dealer to investigate the problem is a hassle. They said that because I have my preventative maintenance done by my own personal *certified* mechanic and not at the dealer that I have voided my warranty on the rotors. They want to charge me $200 + for the replacement of the rotors. I have spoken with several other Malibu owners who have had this same problem. It is my opinion that a recall should be mandated and enforced for this particular problem with this vehicle. I have never owned a car that I had to replace the brake pads every time I pulled into a gas station. Thank you!.
Rotors have been turned and pads replaced three times within eight months, but problem has reoccurred. Feel free to provide any further information.
Brakes shimmied badly. Apparent brake problem. Dealer knew problem before I finished telling them of problem. Dealer replaced warped brake rotors and brake pads. Researched problem and discovered hundreds of same identical problem and complaints. Concerned because other consumers are having same problem fixed over and over for defective design. I am concerned about the safety issue of the brake system on this car.
The rotors re bad and the car isn't even a year and miles under 36,ooo. Someone I know has the same exact car and it is only a few months older. . . Same problems. Then there is a person with an alero which is made by GMC and it's under a year old with bad rotors too. . . I think it is a manufacturer's defect. Rotors usually last 3-5 years. . . . Now me and 2 others have had our new car under a year and experienced shaking at interstate speeds and while braking. . Because the rotors are bad. . . I think that NHTSA should really look in to this befor someones brakes go out I think it may have something to do with ceremic brake pads- ie>> them wearing on the rotors there is no way that 3 new cars with good drivers should be needing rotors. Why are these cars tearing up rotors. Please help us before we have to pay hundreds of dollars on new cars.
Purchased 2000 Malibu new, brakes/rotors began to pulsate at 5200 miles dealership turned rotors. Vehicle returned to dealership at 7000 with same problem, same fix by dealership. Vehicle returned to dealership at 9000 and brakes/rotors replaced with "new type/heavy duty parts". Vehicle returned to dealership at 12500 with similar problems. . . Dealership could not duplicate my problem. Vehicle back in for the 5th time at 17000, same problem, dealership had vehicle for 2 weeks and state brakes/rotors are within "specs" and there is nothing they can do. Chevrolet customer assistance does not care nor does the regional service manager who looked at the case I filed with Chevrolet. I am expected to deal with this problem according to the service manager where I purchased my vehicle. I need help and so do other people who purchased a problem vehicle and to manufacturer has little idea why this problem occurs.
Brake pads uneven wear and warped rotors replaced at 13,696 I had same problems at 23,260 dealer inspected and stated ok returned vehicle again at 42816 and diagnosis was same as 1st time now not covered under 3 yr/36 due to mileage. Had to replace windshield washer pump at 42,000 miles and ac/heater control head at 50, 102. Vehicle is 2 years old and not covered due to mileage. Items replaced do not have anything to do with wear or mileage of vehicle.
Brakes to slow down there is a vibration in the vehicle and brakes emit a rubbing noise. Dealership has examined vehicle, and performed work on brake system. However, brakes operate worse than before, and there is a very loud screeching noise coming from the brakes.
Brakes pulsate, the higher the speed the more it does it. Dealer found that rotors & pads were the wrong size. They were replaced under warranty. Brakes work normal now.
Rotors and pads were replaced at 7832 miles. Rotors resurfaced and pads replaced at 22000 miles. Rotors and pads again replaced at 29134 miles. I was told by both dealerships that I have had my car in to that they will have to just keep replacing them until they have the fix for the problem. I feel very unsafe knowing there is a defect in my brakes that is not repairable. After reading on the NHTSA website, it appears this defect is happening more and more often in 2000 Malibus. I am going to pursue gm taking my car back.
Front rotors are warped , do not stop car without a pulsating or surging effect. It was covered under warranty at 11000 miles . Chevy replaced rotors and pads problem did not go away . I brought it back at 29000 miles and I was told it wa a wear problem not chevy's. Rotors are warped and pads are worn two new brake jobs at 29000 miles . Car still pulsates when stopping and slides thru stops. I called gm was finally told they had no problems with brakes, they replaced brakes at 11000 miles as acourtesy but will not do so at 29000 miles. According to complaints listed at NHTSA everyone is having this problem, why not a safety related recall? must we wait for people to die before we act? let 's have safety recall now before we have another explorer/ firestone issue and resultant deaths.
At 3000 miles vehicle began to vibrate when brakes were applied. At 6000 miles dealer replaced brakes due to service bulletin. Vehicle continued to vibrate and would shake to extreme when vehicle was moving fast. Applied brakes, but will not slow down. Vehicle has been taken to dealer on numerous occasions, but dealer has not provided remedy.
Brakes: 1st time they replaced rotor/pad kit at 9066 miles, bad vibration when applying brakes. At present, car has 21000 and they say rotors need resurfaced and want to charge me. I don't think rotors should wear out every 10 to 11,000 miles, mostly highway miles.
When applying brakes at 55+mph, front of car and steering wheel vibrates and shimmies so badly, cannot control car.
Tires has a thumping sound . I was by the service technician that the tire has a bouble on it. I had to replace the brakes pad on the front of the vehicle in 8 months. I was informed by the sevice technician and mechanic that they were advised to replace pads with the new type. Although I did not take my vehicle back for brake problems, however my vehicle was in for normal service interval and nothing was told to me of brake recall or replacement recommended by general motor or other manufactors. I believe that under the circumstance my brakes should have been replace with the recommended type by gm , and I . . . Not be charge for that replacement. I have since had by front brakes replace at my expense, and I am sorely dissatified with lack of information provide to me about the safety of my brakes. The dealer should have let know about the replacement early. . . When they do the servicing it the interval.
Every six months brake pads and calipers had to be replaced due to excessive wear. Dealer notified, and probelm has been reoccurring. Feel free to provide any further information.
Consumer states that there is excessive wear of the front brake rotors and pads. The rotors and pads have been replaced on five occasions from 7,000 to 24,000 miles. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified. Feel free to provide any further information.
While traveling at 65 mi/hr car stope running this happened on 4 separet occasions. I managed to get to the side of th road without being rearended, tried to restart the care only to have it stall again and each of the three times the car was towed to the dealer. The first time they had it 2 days and could not find the problem, the second time they had it 2 days and could not find the problem, the third time they had it 2 days and could not find the problem, this time the fourth time they have had it to date 8 days and still counting. They think it is the fuel pump regulator. I think I want them to keep this car. Each time this has happened I have been in rush hour traffic. I feel as if my luck may run out soon. Could you please help us to get out of this car and into another. Also the brakes and rotors have been replaced 3 times. The heating and airconditioning system has also been replaced. I'm making carpayments on a new car and feel like I'm driving a junk.
Front rotors & pads had to be replaced 3 times within the first year.
Car vibrated on application of brakes. Dealer replaced rotors and pads after 3000 miles!.
The brakes would make a grinding or groaning sound when backing up or going forward at slow speed. The dealer reported that they could find no problem. They had replaced the rotors and brakes on this car at only 882 miles see voq # 736612.
Consumer states front brakes and rotors have been replaced twice, and master cylinder has been replaced one, and not sure if problem has been corrected.
The front brake rotors (rotors warped) and pads have been replaced 5 times now but dealer cannot find the problem. The area service manager for chervolet seems to think that "the brakes are not a safety issue". I think differently. The front of the car starts shaking and the steering wheel starts shaking (worse then it normally does), I have also heard clicking noises when I apply the brakes.
Have had problems with the rotors/brake pads at 9,000, 12,000, 16,000, 24,000 and now again at 28,000. Rotors or pads have been replaced 4 times and are bad again. Gm dealer said this is normal for all GMC vehicles.
Sounds like pads are dragging on rotors. Vehicle at dealer, who said pads/shoes and rotors needed to be replaced, normal wear and tear.
Consumer bought a brand new vehicle, and it started having steering problems within 24 hours. It was very difficult to turn steering wheel, and steering wheel shook when applying brakes. Steering pump replaced, but vehicle still has shake problem when braking, as well as noise coming from left rear.
While applying brakes there is a squeaking and grinding noise in front wheels. Dealership is aware of problem.
I have had the same issue with my brake system and have had my front rotors and pads replaced 4 times - I have only had the car for a year. They tell me this a problem with Malibu's and place new parts on my car but after a few months the problem re-occurs. I get a pulsation/vibration when I brake at highway speeds and from time to time my brake pedal goes all the way to the floor. Each time they say my rotors are warped and replace them.
My rotors and brake pads were replaced because of defective rotors 3 times since I purchased my car they were replaced at 407 miles and 8248 miles and finally my rotors were replaced at 27980 miles it seems as though general motors has been using defective rotors on their cars and is not going to do anything about it until someone is killed and they are sued then maybe the government will force them to look into this problem.
Dealership has replaced front brake pads and rotors four times due to excessive wear. Dealership cannot determine an effective remedy for this problem. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
Excessive wear of front brake pads and front rotors. Pads had to be replaced on three separate occasions, and front rotors had to be replace on two occasions. Dealer notified. Feel free to provide any further information.
